Chapter 54 : page 130

Postby Kern » Sun Oct 28, 2018 5:44 am

Meanwhile below things have taken a turn for the worse, for everyone involved.
Burning, crushing, stabbing, strangling, all the fun stuff and Sang is not impressed. Kyo's talk of unity can't sway but unity through strenght is hard to dismiss. Its a clan where the strong lead. Number is one of the valid strenght.

So why are you jabbering away instead of gutting her, Sang?

So in the end you were nothing but a pathetic replica of those who dismembered you, Sang.

Your so called political rhetoric makes me want to puke.

EDIT : Sad for her dead-to-be dragon (as well as for all the other casualties), but wow, Chigusa looks impérial!

The battle goes on. And it goes...poorly.

Though it looks like the Amsaag have more than lived up to their warrior reputation. Rock on, you elven Cimmerians. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5K3AKl5qpc

Looks like my cameo, Nergui, has been stabbed in the gut and left to bleed out in the arms of her mate.
Which incidentally is exactly the situation she was in at the end of the big airship battle a few chapters ago.
To quote a great speaker, "Ach, I'm bad at this." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojXP5vNGvLs
If, by some miracle, Nergui survives this, she is retiring from battle. Or at least buying better torso armor. ^^;

At least our TK ally seems to be doing pretty well for himself.

Noooo! Not another dragon! They are becoming an endangered species at this rate. And how unfair is it that Chigusa suffer this loss and face death at the hands of those that only triumphed before because of the actions and sacrifices of her and her kin?

Ooooh...a Sarghress flamethrower, interesting. Before I settled on Xen as my other cameo this chapter, I was strongly considering a legion cameo that was a flamethrower guy. Glad to see he would have fit the universe.
And such beautiful fire effects too! Amazing artwork. I feel bad for whoever is getting roasted though. Hard to tell, but looks distinctive enough to be a cameo.
Hmm....wonder how such a device would fair against a fire specialist like Chiri.

And shark girl continues to show the power of her golem, despite the holes in it. (Huh, I wonder why the Legionaries didn't bring any, or maybe I forgot some?)

And finally, Kyo and Sang. Words have failed - so odds aren't looking good for our young singer. She has a powerful ability, but she is no warrior, and Sang is a hardened veteran who has taken down some scary things in her time. Plus, Sang has other warriors with her. Hard to see this ending anything but badly for Kyo...
....Yet, part of me hopes anyway.
If nothing else, it would hilarious if Kor brought Ariel down to surrender and they found that Kyo had already beaten Sang. How could they possibly react to that?! XD

...wait, is Kyo taller than Sang here?

Oh, and as for Sang's argument here - no wonder she could not hold the clan together if that is what she thinks. The Sharen were by far the strongest clan, but they tore themselves apart from the inside. And the Sarghress followed suite not long after becoming the strongest clan. Words...words on the other hand, carry ideas, and it is from ideas that unity is born. Words are wind, to quote another fantasy franchise (which also features wolf, stag, and cat nobles overthrowing dragon nobles) but wind can carve canyons and grind mountains to dust.

Mizu wrote:So why are you jabbering away instead of gutting her, Sang?

Why not? Kyo is young, unarmed, and in a dress instead of armor. Why should Sang be concerned? Why not indulge in some taunting. She is clearly no threat.

If Sang is so strong, why even bother with Ariel's faction? She should be able to crush Snadya and everybody else.

Of course, they could have just demanded them to join them but they didn't, they went there to kill, this is a civil war of sorts among the Sarghress, and when a civil war breaks out, there aren't winners, just weakened victors, after all, you are killing yourself. In order to kill that rebel faction you are going to lose troops, the reminder will be even more loyal, but you will have always less than when you started.

Something tells me Kyo is about to be stabbed in the throat when she tries to use her spellsong to actually prove that strength means nothing if your mind is too weak.

Power is in the eyes of the beholder, Sang. After you do this, what then? Will you just move on to another target? Remove. Remove.Remove.Remove.Remove.Remove.Remove.Remove.

Where is this end point, when is it going to end? You no leader of power Sang, you are a person with little power in yourself.

The truly powerful do not go with the flow, they go against. And in this case Sang, who have become that very flow that you are feebly defending because you lack the power and strength to go against it.

Now I want to see Ariel KICK SANG'S ASS, if not physically, at least show her what TRUE POWER is, and that is to have the courage, the will to stand against the flow unwaveringly.

In what way? The idea that might makes right was Quain's all along, not Diva's. Diva seemed to think that strength stemmed from family which also turned out to be a semi-falsehood*, but its a different one.

* Brute strength, strong family ties, proper breeding/education, and idealism are ALL foundations to build a working society on, in fact arguably you need all of them so nobody's wrong in theory - its just that everybody's doing all of those things wrong. Yes, even victorious Sang here since there's very little point in being a tyrant(or doing one's bidding) for shits and giggles. To make that work, you gotta remember the "walk softly" half.

If you are so strong then why is that you are incapable of bringing the clan under one rule, Sang?

Ariel may have a hard time surrendering... both her allies and enemies may be too busy killing each other to listen, specially if Kyo manages to eliminate Sang...

By the way, I expect Kyo to be the one to point at the elephant in the room: SANG IS NOTHING BUT SNADHYA'S MINION!!

Arkeo :( He was doing so well, too...

Chigusa is rapidly turning into someone who might just regret ever agreeing to help the Sargh. They are now just a pack of wild, rabid animals who attack anyone who doesn't look like them.

Including their own people, making them no better than these Nidraa'chal roaches masquerading as "the better option". Sang is small in both body and mind.

Hmm...I am not sure I would entirely agree. Meritocracy was certainly a key part of the society she hoped to build, and as a warrior herself merit often meant martial skill....yet saying that she believed might makes right seems odd when the Sharen, her enemies, were so much stronger than her for so long, and that she so hated them for misusing their power to hurt the people under them.

Notably here http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7602, she refers to the Sharen philosophy as that of the "Iron Fist" and saw it as the worse option of the old war. Also when she speaks of the potential of the common folk she specifically mentions honor and intellect.

So I think one can argue that the difference here is that Quain believed in strength through unity* whereas Sang believes in unity through strength. It is perhaps a fine distinction, and it is easy to see how so many of Quain's followers came to that conclusion, but I think it might still be an important one.

*Ironically, while Quain could be very bitter and cynical, I think she might have been too idealistic to fully grasp how deep the divisions within her clan went.

Very true, I agree completely.

Yeah, it is a real cluster**** that is for sure, it will be hard to restore enough order to even surrender before one side is completely dead.

I sure hope Kyo calls Sang out on that. After all, Kyo would know.

....I wish I could think of a counter argument to this.

But yeah, Nishi's family may have brought down one of their enemies, but in the end it made their other ones stronger, including the most important one.

You know, I wonder why we haven't seen more flamethrowers like that in the second panel... grab a big ass fire foci, add a big ass core stone as a mana battery, put them together, and FYOOOOOSH! incinerate everything!
