My character concepts-
1: Kotorc warrior
Appearance: Twice as tall and nearly twice as wide as a normal Kotorc, with large tusks and mane of wild red hair. His body is covered in scars, which is easily visible since he only wears an armored skirt, a belt decorated with the skulls of demons he has killed, and a necklace of drow ears.
Skills and tools: He uses a tetsubo (long, metal studded club) with little elegance but great power and low cunning.
Personality: He loves fighting above all else, especially the adrenaline rush that comes with challenging a skilled and powerful foe. Outside of the battlefield, he is a bully who intimidates people into giving him what he wants. He obeys his Sarghress superiors, but has poor discipline.
History: A child he was a bully amongst his tribe, using his size to push out not only other kids, but adults when he could get away with it. For this reason, when slave traders came to their village, he was the first to be given as tribute. The slavers sold him to the Black Dragon Tavern – while he resented being the property of others, he enjoyed the life of fighting and simple treasures. After the incident with Ariel and Leale, he joined the Sarghress as a war meat. He quickly became a leader of a small gang of orcs, and came to love fighting demons, since their skulls made such interesting trophies.
Undecided on: I was also thinking of making him an unusually tall Noz, since Kotorcs are a rather short race.
2: Ex-Beld slave
Appearance: Short hair, tall and thin – very lanky. Wears Sarghress armor with a broken chain painted across the chest. She also wears her old slave collar as a bracelet.
Skills and tools: Very skilled rock climber, enhanced with earth sorcery. Either fights with a weighted chain or a pair of climbing picks (haven’t decided). Also a good cook, if one who is too fond of experimental recipes.
Personality: She is a very curious person who likes to see what is around the next corner or over the next hill, and can be easily distracted by anything new or mysterious. She is generally friendly, and loves to talk with new people, especially about the latest explorations and discoveries. However, she has a dark side – she deeply hates the Belds and think the only thing better than killing one is enslaving one. With the exception of the Beld, she has extremist anti-slavery views which can quickly get on people’s nerves.
History: Sold at a very young age to the Beld along with her brother, she was constantly getting punished for sticking her nose into where it didn’t belong – her primary duty was assisting the cooks and serving food to the Vals. When she was young, she managed to escape through a combination of risky climbing and some convincing lying. She always planned to come back for her brother, but only a few months after she escaped, she heard that all of the Beld slaves were killed. After this, she spent a long time working with the Blue Banners relic hunters, fulfilling her dreams by seeing new places and trying their exotic food, though she still hungered for revenge. When she heard that the Beld and the Sarghress were at war, she eagerly joined the later.
Undecided on: Needs a more distinguishing personality trait I think. Maybe a food obsession?
3: Sul Sadist
Appearance: Very long blue hair with some red streaks. Almost always has a smile on his face, whether it is appropriate or not. Wears only some baggy blue pants. War paint style tattoos all over his body..
Skills and tools: Uses a barbed whip covered in a painful poison. Uses empathy to make enemies feel pain whenever he is wounded. Very fast and agile.
Personality: Thanks to the messed up nature of his empathy, he experiences the pain of other people as pleasure, and so likes to do everything possible to hurt people, and has become a master of the art of torture. Similarly, other people’s happiness makes him feel depressed, so he avoids people outside of his “artwork.”
Undecided on: Maybe tone down the crazy and make him more battlefield effective….but that might make him too generic.
4: Nice Black Sun
Appearance: Short hair, blue eyes, white tattoos over her body. She wears armor made from chitin over some mismatched animal hide clothing.
Skills and tools: Fights with a meteor hammer (heavy weight on a rope).
Personality: She is a very kind hearted person who utterly hates fighting, but does it anyway out of duty to her tribe. She especially likes animals, and thinks all animals are cute – especially the ugly ones. Knows they are dangerous, but forgets that in their presence – “Look, the Kirisu is hugging me!

Undecided on : Her powers – I was thinking some kind of healing ability to represent her gentleness (especially a type of empathy more attuned towards animals than people), light sorcery because its cool and not used much (She would most use it for signaling), or possibly some spellsong because I liked Suntiger’s description of Black Sun society and how they use spellsong. I am also not sure what to make her attitude towards Sarghress and slaves – I was thinking she respected Sarghress frugal lifestyle and bravery, and feel sympathy towards slaves…but I don’t want her to essentially be a Sargh….
5: Commoner loyalist
Appearance: Nine Swords Mercenary uniform. ….Needs work for this one.
Skills and tools: Wields a spear, and has some very weak fire sorcery (mostly used to warm his hands to help cook food). His best skill is that he is simply very observant and he has a good memory, which makes him a skilled guard.
Personality: His beliefs can be summed up as “Goddess save the Queen.” To give more detail, he was raised to believe in the Sharess faith (and he sees the Sharen as holy because of their connection to Sharess), to be patriotic towards Chel as a whole, and to be, above all else, loyal and dutiful. Even more importantly, Sharen troops saved his family in the Nid war, so when the District Wars started, he did everything he could think of to join a Sharen aligned mercenary group.
Undecided on: Well, this is just a basic idea at this point. Anything to flush him out would be welcome.
6: Old Sharen
Appearance: Suffers from mana deprivation, so she looks middle aged. Grey hair in a long ponytail , beaten up old armor and weapons. Lost her left ear long ago. Sharp facial features generally scowling and suspicious, and eyes that seem to look through a person.
Skills and tools: Her preferred weapon is the battleaxe, which she uses with both power and grace. Her preferred fighting style to feign a weakness or opening, or even pretend to run away, so she can lure the enemy in a trap and strike when they are overconfident. She is also skilled in first aid, using a combination of bone sorcery and surgical techniques to keep allies and prisoners alive.
Personality: She is grumpy, cynical, and suspicious, with a very dark sense of humor about doomed her clan, Chel, and the world in general is. Despite that, she has a lot of respect for determination in the face of adversity, as well as those who stick to their duty no matter the cost, even if they are an enemy. Additionally, she thinks that the Sarghress are just pawns in the war, like the Sharen’s own mercenaries, and that Sul are the real enemy. She advocates constantly that the Sharen should attack the Sul dome, and the Sarghs will fall into line after that – she also goes after Sul targets over Sarghress when in battle
History: She was a veteran of the Third Century Wars, and the experience has left a deep mark on her, as has Chel’s long spiral into anarchy. She particularly hates how spoiled and decadent the young Sharen have become – too similar to the Sul enemy in her opinion.
Undecided on: I also thinking about having her be a conspiracy theorist – in particular, she would very quick to think that the Sul are behind everything, whether wars or the fact she can’t find her shoes in the morning. I am also not sure what bloodline to make her.
7: NalSarkoth Explorer
Appearance: After a close encounter with some deadly spores, s/he has taken to wearing a gas mask, goggles, and Nal’Sarkoth armor whenever outside of Chel. Under the mask, s/he has been left bald and disfigured by the incident.
Skills and tools: S/he is a golem engineer, specialized in identifying and reactivating the devices of the old world, and can read several ancient languages as well.
Personality: Cautious to a fault, some would even say paranoid, s/he likes to plan for every situation imaginable, and a handful of unimaginable situations. Very serious and diligent in work, but honestly cares for her clanmates and does everything possible to keep them safe. S/he has special fondness for rookies, and tries to mentor them to not make the same mistakes s/he did.
Things I might change: The gender for one. I was also thinking of going with a climber type character with a pure love of exploration, or perhaps a more plant focused person with wood sorcery and a hobby of cataloguing rare plants of the overworld (maybe even flower pressing).
8: Illhardo Wanderer
Appearance: Blue and white gi, wave pattern, conical blue hat with white neckguard. Short, messy white hair and light blue eyes.
Skills and tools: Trained in Jie’yen style hand to hand combat, also a graceful dancer. Skilled tracker.
Personality: Above all else a helpful person with a strong sense of justice, she left behind a life of comfort and privilege in order to do the most good in the world, joining the Wanderers as soon as she was old enough. She cares little for politics, and is not loyal to her clan on principle, but sees the Illhardo and their allies as a force for good in the world.
Undecided on: I was thinking of giving her some earth sorcery which she would use to disrupt her enemy’s stance and throw them off guard, but I am not sure that fits an Illhardo.
9: Jaal’Darya Poison specialist
Name: Opa'binia
Appearance: Long hair, three long braids, black with gold and crimson stripes. Golden compound eyes, like a dragonfly. Short, thin and slight, she certainly doesn't seem intimidating, especially since she carries no visible weapons. However, underneath her bulky robes her body has been extensively modified, with chitinous natural armor, extendible nails can deliver a deadly venom, and a tongue that doubles as a blood sucking proboscis. She has a red and gold double helix tatooed on her face.
Skills and tools: See above.
Personality: Opa'binia is always calm and collected. She never raises her voice or utters a rude word, even when enraged. She is always studying and analyzing everything, looks for weakness and opportunities, or just something to peak her interest. Beneath this seeming lack of emotion, however, Opa is a sadist through and through, and is just as likely to preform an experiment to see someone suffer than to get actual results - similarly, she likes to toy with enemies in battle so long as she feel it is safe to do so. As frightening as her stern displeasure can be, it is her rare smiles that are truly terrifying.
Things I might change: Her character design is too complex…need to simplify it while keeping the creepy
