...and began to flow into said ear. It wasn't painful, oh no. It was terrifyingly pleasant and sensuous and good. It was like having your ear raped by a shadow and yet you like it, even if it made you feel so completely violated you could scarcely imagine worse.

Night had fallen.

It was time to move.

"Garrus, Elh'vir, Umrae'sin, prepare yourselves," whispered Aiva as she peered cautiously around the cover they had hidden behind. "Night has fallen, we should be able to survive a run for it."
"Understood," Garrus whispered back, familiar with such situations as "run for it you dumbass". "Ready when you are."
"Go!" Aiva'hil led the group as she sprinted from cover. Garrus ushered Umrae'sin, who could actually run surprisingly quickly, in front of him before following, intending to use his larger body and heavier armor to shield against any arrows. He slung Elh'vir onto his shoulder ("Sorry!") and ran. Unfortunately, drow tend to have good night vision. Bolts began to come down and the group was scattered as a particularly fierce barrage had everyone diving out of the way.

Aiva'hil managed to roll behind a rock, followed by Garrus. There was a quick exchange of words and Elh'vir as they decided that Garrus would use his armor and mana-shield to cover the retreat somewhat while Aiva and Umrae ran as fast as possible. It was a good plan, given the circumstances. Backpedaling as fast as he could (which was substantial, since warriors tended to train in such things to not trip during a fight), Garrus grit his teeth as bolts slammed into his shield, covering the retreat. Then tragedy occurred. With a scream, Umrae'sin was hit in the back, the bolt slamming into the upper left of her chest cavity. Aiva'hil, being older and faster, had just made it to the boulders when Umrae'sin was hit. She dropped Elh'vir ((ouch)) and started to run back when the bolt ignited.

The fire wasn't large, but given the lack of armor to blunt or stop it, the flames consumed a ball of flesh as wide as a baseball, incinerating the heart, upper spine, and shoulder. It was instantly lethal.

Elh'vir came back to his self by the time ground greeted him in rather heavy manner. With a slam into face.

That wasn't enough, however, as he saw Umrae to get hit heavily and fall down. At that point, Elh'vir's time froze around him. The whole situation seemed surreal. There was her, falling to ground, and at first Elh'vir couldn't even grasp the situation. He was just lying there with a blank face, making a bit "whut"-sound. His mind didn't want to accept what just happened.
It can't be real, this in't happening, no, not again, please goddess, no nonono...

The it hit him. Hard. Pure tears started to fall down on his cheeks, and Elh'vir rolled around into a ball behind the rock, hugging his knees. Not only she had turned to be his interesting person close in this team, she had also reminded him of all the darkness, death and void of the past. He just lied there, not even caring for a moment what would happen to him. Everything seem to go blank for him, everything lost its meaning. He didn't even care if he would have been shot at that moment.

He just rolled slowly on the ground, murmuring and whispering silently of Umrae's name, the Goddess and words of denying.

Garrus heart skipped a beat when he heard Umrae'sin scream. Everything seemed black and white for just a moment as he turned his head back. He opened his mouth but he couldn't say anything. He wanted to shout, he wanted to cry, he wanted to deny all of this and most of all he wanted it all to go away.

He ran to Umrae'sin and scooped her up, "Get back, get to cover!" He yelled a Aiva'hl, charging to there position.
Getting around the boulder, he laid Umrae down "No...No... Why...Not another young soul Goddess..." Garrus muttered, trying to push his emotions back but couldn't keep the stream of tears running down his face.

Detir was back in his sniper's post when he saw Umrae'sin go down. He could hear her screams all the way from the top of the outcropping. Now, he was practically running down the slope, slipping and sliding due to the uneven footing. With the sound of falling earth, he slid to a stop. Gasping for breath, he stumbled over to Umrae'sin's body. He stared at the corpse for five minutes, then turned away. Then he fell to his knees and threw up. Oh Goddess. She was dead. Umrae'sin was dead. Umrae'sin was DEAD.

Slowly, Detir went back to his post. He needed to be alone.

Aiva'ihl felt her guts twist in disconfort and shock. The feeling was not unfamiliar at all. No matter how many centuries could pass, the sudden realization of death, even more so with a young girl, would never fail to make heart heart freeze. Sharess, it took only a mere second... She felt the terror of the others around her, Garrus and Elh'vir in tears, Detir'nah in shock.

No.

They were still in the middle of an attack. Someone had to remain rational or they would all share Umrae'sin's fate. Save the breakdowns for later. She rushed to her templar's side, placing a strong hand on his shoulder, also directing a meaningful look to Elh'vir:

- We are not safe yet. We have to leave this place and recover.

us knew better then to pause like that... Thankfully Avia could keep a straight face in this situation. "Yah." He nodded to her and slipped his shield off of his back. "Here, keep this on your back." He said to her, strapping his shield for added protection, he had to do what he could to make sure his warden would make it out of here.

Turning his attention to Elh'vir, he gave him a good shake to bring him back to the real world "Come on Lad! We are leaving with or without you, snap out of it!" They didn't have the luxury or the time to wait for him "Pick up Detir and stay in front of me. Their arrows are having one hell of a time braking through my armor."

With that thought he pick up Umrae'sin's body and put her on his back "I'm sorry girl." He whispered to Umrae as if she could hear him. As morbid and disrespectful as it may seem, he was going to use her body to protect his back. His mind was on auto pilot and the adrenaline was in full motion, he had no time to think about the dead. "Come on lets go!"

Elk's eyes flew in the direction of the scream, spotting the now-dead body of one of his companions laying on the ground, a bolt sticking out from her back. His eyes next met with the drow who'd fired it, who seemed to rejoicing at his shot. The happy expression was the last one he made as Elk's translucent sword met his neck- and cleaved right through. Not a moment later several beings that appeared to be demons appeared out of nowhere, spreading discord- illusions. As much as it pained Elk, he began to fall back with everyone else, stopping once or twice to butcher an enemy brutally.

With bit of shaky feeling, Elh'vir rose up from the ground as the team spoke to him. He could see that everyone else was as shocked as he was, maybe even more.
They had clearly cared for Umrae. And that only made the pain go deeper in him.

"...Yes... But how in the abyss are we going to leave? Prince's not here yet, and they still got that huge ballista up there!"

There was rage in Elh'vir's eyes, and he clearly fought hard for the urge to just rush to the village and try to slaughter as many as he could.
He had grown to like this party in the past fleeing moments, and now those scum had cut a deep throbbing wound into it. They needed to pay for it.
In blood.

Detir had only made it a few steps before he heard Aiva'hil support a withdrawal. At first, Detir agreed, but Elh'vir brough up a good point.

"Elh'vir's right, that ballista can fire much farther then 300 yards outside of the village ((combination of extra large Roman ballista and Drow tech = range +700 yards)). And there are three of them. We need to take them out, somehow, if we want to survive. Better yet, if we can take out the ballista and find a way to secure this village, we can claim this region as a joint venture of the Illhar'dro and Kyorl'sern and Sillusinrune ((sp?)). Money is, of course, only useful if we survive. The point is, we need to take out that artillery. Thoughts?"

Meanwhile, Alderic screamed, pain beyond anything he had ever encountered or imagined blossoming as the shadow slow expanded. Ether Sorcery does terrible things, especially when combined with Shadow Sorcery. Slowly, the shadow tore open Alderic's ear, then began to crack his skull. After several agonizing minutes, the shadow finally broke Alderic's skull in two and sprayed his brain matter across the room. The shadow retreated, giggling creepily as Alderic's body fell the ground.

"Did you have fun?" asked a second voice, opening the door, backlit by a lantern.
"Oh yes," replied the shadow. "His screams were most delicious."
"Finally," replied the second voice. You could hear it rolling its eyes. "Leave me then, I must have quiet when turning a corpse into a golem."
