Trinita almost jumped into the thick jungles as the mad looking creature attacked. The creature went mad as bolt nailed into its withered hide but deflected off of its thick skull. This insolence sent the elephant into a blind fury as it tried to gore at the assaulting drows with its tusks or flatten them with its heavy head.

"Get in the jungle. Try to-" Trinita stopped mid sentence as he tripped on some roots. "Try to bleed it out, circle it!" Sharess what would he do for a good spear right now and take the beast in the heart. He's only seen an elephant once and it was just for a nobleman to ride on, cover in gold and flaunted around.

The beast didn't know what to make of the tricky drows. But it crashed though the jungles trying to get Galia but was distracted by Ash's gleaming blade and the light right in its eye. All it thought was squash him for it. This action left the bull elephants rear open for Trinita to strike. The beast Bellowed loudly as its tail left its body in a hurry, spilling a fountain of ruby blood on the green floor.

With another two handed swing, Trinita's sword left a fine cut on the grey beast. Exposing the pink and red muscles underneath it.

Galia crashed through the foliage as the other raiders began to surround the thing. Attacking the beast from the front was clearly ineffective. It wheeled around trying to stamp and smash anything it could. "Just like a deer." Galia muttered as she could see the massive ribs of the thing. Taking aim she fired and the bolt sank halfway in, until the massive leg moved back down bending the bolt and likely tearing a hole in its lung. A roar of the thing was half cut off as air found easier escape in its chest cavity then its throat.

"GET IT TA TURN DA OTHER WAY!" She yelled. It was already mortally wounded, Getting the other lung would quickly cause the frenzied beast to pass out and die. Then the beast picked a rotten log from out of nowhere with its trunk and threw it at Galia catching her square across the chest smashing her into a bush.

For a creature of its size, this thing was impossibly fast, Ash'arion had come to realize as he narrowly dodged one tree trunk-sized leg slamming into the ground as the animal flailed and tried to kill all of them at once. He had just dived under a half-rotten log the monster had swung at him with what appeared to be its nose when a second or so later he heard a feminine grunt of pain and looked back to see Galia take the blow full on.

"Galia!" He shouted, and the beast's attention was back on him. Well partially. It was still trying to kick at Trinita with one hind leg or the other like a riding animal would, only with much more dire consequences, and that was saying something. He heard the air rushing from his left and reflexively snapped his heavy shortsword in that direction to deflect it. He was just starting to realize how useless that would've been when he felt and heard the blade cleave through tough hide and meaty flesh. The lath warrior was showered in blood and almost deafened by a gurgling wail that sounds like something from the depths of Hel itself.

He had reflexively raised his arms to shield his face from the spray when something hard glanced off his armor, knocking the wind and sight out of him. When he could see again, he discovered that he was on his back in between the creature's forelegs. Blood was still pouring down from its face onto him, and now he could see its source: half its nose-thing that it had been using as a weapon had been severed. His breastplate was buckled in and his right pauldron had been ripped off, and even with minimal animal empathy he could see the merciless fury in the huge thing's little eyes. Never before had death looked as certain as it did right now.

Trinita side stepped out of the way of the lumbering beast as it tired to kick him. The raiders footing could be better but vines got in the way, this battle was not one of his choosing but it did not favor the beast. The Males eyes widened at the sight of Galia getting smashed by its trunk and she disappeared into the bushes.

The beast didn't move so well and favored the leg Trinita didn't slice. And red gore spilled from its severed nose as Ash scored a mighty hit. The beast stumbled but was about to Gore Ash if he didn't do something. So he did. Trinita raised his sword and shouted at load as he could and tried as hard as he could to hack a pieace off of it. And he almost succeed, his sword bit deep, cleaving off chunks of leg but the beast turned and smashed Trinita with its tusks. The blow lifted him sent him several feet in one direction.

This was it. He knew he and his team would die here and he was too beaten to fight back.

But when the black dots cleared from his vision, Trinita moaned and looked back. The mad beast was dead, succumbed to its many, many wounds. But that still didn't save Trinita from passing out.

Galia was knocked senseless for a bit. Her chest hurt and what felt like a tiny kiritsu was crawling on her face. She moaned and swiped it off, indeed it was a tiny kiritsu crawling on her face. there where half a dozen and countless winged bugs that erupted from the wet rotted log when it broke in half across her chest plate. She slowly retreated her auto crossbow and notched another bolt. She was alive, but he chest hurt from the impact. She quickly lurched up and scanned where she was just knocked off her feet, spying the white fless of the beast he snapped upp a shot lodging it a little low of the spine of the beast.

It didn't have any reaction. She started coughing, and looked down at her chest plate. A huge dent was in it where her breast where, though who the ancient relic hunter armor was made for originally was much more well endowed then her. "Motherkillen Hel." She got closer to the beast, but noone was in sight.

"SOUND OFF TROOPERS! *COUGH* *cough*" Gaila called out for survivors. She spit on the forest floor and a bit a blood on it from where a bush likely smacked her lip. The chest pain was starting to catch up with her. "Fucken shit es squishen ma tits." she muttered but she would have to deal with it until the rest of her squad was recovered and no additional attacks were likely.

Ash, likely being the least injured of the group -for which he was very grateful to Trin, because without his action, he'd have been the most unrecognizable- hopped to his feet at the call to sound off. This turned out to be a bad idea, since 'least injured' hardly meant 'negligibly injured' and right as he took a breath to respond, his vision darkened again and he swayed as the blood failed to reach his head in time. Then he shook his head and recovered, waving a blood-soaked hand at Galia. Then again, he was entirely blood-soaked, looking much like one would expect of an overachieving Sarghress purveyor of ultraviolence.

"I'm up, Miss Galia! Quite pleased to see you're still mostly intact too! I don't know what we'd do without a female around, although you'd probably imagine something. Wait there a minute, and I'll go check on the Captain."

Suiting action to word, the subordinate male went around the fallen animal to take a look at his superior. He'd been too caught up in the prospect of his own looming death to really pay attention to whether or not Trinita got himself kicked, but he didn't see any tree-sized dents in the other male's armor. There were, however, the gouges indicative of impacts from the beast's white face-swords, so he was worried about Trinita's well-being.

"Cap'n? Cap'n Trinita!" Ash crouched next to the squad leader and gently shook him by the shoulder. "Hey! You in there, Cap'n?"

Trinita groaned as Ash shook him gently. Slowly he opened his eyes and took in his surroundings. Right, still in the jungle, so I'm probably not dead unless the after life is much like to where we you died. In that case he didn't save Ash and Galia must be dead too because I can still hear her. That was mostly the shock talking in his head.

"Ash, is every one ok." Trinita whispered as he tried to get up but was still too winded and beaten to do so. So instead he just laid there for the moment. "Is Galia hurt. Are you ok" There was worry in his voice. And while Ash was kneeling over him, the last time he saw him was at the mercy of the grey beast.

Galia's ears perked up, when Ash answered. Well, thank Sharess, not alone out in da wild-a-ness. Her chest was still hurting when she shifted and her chest fell out of the dents of her armor in an undignified ker-twunk sound.

"Ain't got notten but a face full o' rot wood n' bugs capt." Galia said some what relived and reassured her captain and squad-mate were fit enough to talk.

"As if such a thing could hope to ruin your face, Miss Galia." Ash said brightly. Having had nine sisters made for a lot of practice wording insults as compliments. He looked down at Trinita with that same bright smile, a bloody visage that would likely give a goblin or lightskin screaming night-terrors for weeks. But he was honestly just being friendly. And relieved at not being covered in his own blood. "Galia's hurt, but on her feet. I'll need you to define 'ok' before I can answer that honestly, Cap'n. The three of us are alive. Can you walk?"

"Yah, I just got the pissed knocked out of me." Trinita chuckled, all too happy to hear no one sounded seriously hurt and was in good spirits. But as Ash said, as the groups medic, he'll be the judge. Carefully and professionally the medic checked his comrades, first with Galia, who he carefully watch where he touched her... parts.

They had burses and where beaten up but no bones seemed to be broken. Sharess what would he give for empathy but alas he was not born with the gift. "Well other then a bath Ash, I think you'll pull through." Trinita smiled as he finished and walked over the beast. "Now lets get ivory. Not such a bad prize." ivory from such beasts were worth a lot in the underground market. Taking a hack saw to the tusks, he found something peculiar. A bolt not so different then their own, buried in nerve endings.

"Take a look at this." he held up the finely crafted silver bolt.

"That neigh be silver. Careful od teh end Cap't." Galia warned.

The soft metal of silver was ill suited to any practical weapon, save maybe a slings bullet. It was polished regardless of that it was to have such luster. Steel? Probably, but maybe something so much more rare. Aluminum, though mortals could work such a metal. Separating it from ore, was beyond any halm metallurgy. Fae could do it, but most would rather use it in steel mixes to lighten while maintain strength and that did not require purity.

"Bath be nice."
Galia said an spit on the ground. "Still got worm rot log stuck in me teeth n' nethers." She shook her leg a bit to loosen up whatever had gotten though her mail midriff.

"Please allow me to take a look at that, Cap'n." Ash said, cautiously reaching for the projectile. "I might be able to identify the metal. If there's another faction within this beast's traveling range, it'd be good to have an idea of what we're up against." Then he grinned brightly again, his teeth somehow still white in spite of everything else being red save his eyes.

"Then again, if only one of them can hit a target this large, they might not be much of a threat!" He would love to have a bath too, since he was sure he was far exceeding the Sarghress tradition of dipping the tips of their hair in the blood of their kills. He was glad though that the blood on him didn't prove acidic, as he'd heard rumors of about the creatures that dwelled above.

Trinita almost certain it wasn't silver like his comrades have suggested. Silver for all its good looks, was far too weak of a substance to hold up to any real punishment. Be it armor or arms. Passing the strange bolt carefully over to Ash Trinita went back to sawing off one tusk after another and then tying them securely with some rope.

The bolt was a strange thing. It wasn't silver but a strange alloy as strong as steel and crafted from a skilled hands, far and above the skills of local humans in the area, who have no metal of any kind expect for the tools that they trade for. The Captain could help but shake the feeling that there was somebody that was just as capable as they where in terms of tech. And that's a somebody that Trinita didn't want to face on their terms, if it came to blows.

"Well have to wash up when we come across a water source." Dirt and gore come with the job. "But we have some ground to cover. And we'll go back to the village and drop these off. There too heavy to take with us but their worth too much ada to waste. And we earned this ada god damn it."

* * * An uneventful short detour back to the village and back into the thick of the jungle. * * *

Marching around the rotting, maggot infested corpse of the mad elephant. The group found its baring's again and searched for a way down. What they did find was a slow incline down the treacherous grounds and into what hopefully was one of safer passage.

Down here there was creek and some freshly over turned rocks, showing the wet side on the top. "Looks like somebodies been here." Trinita said as he bent down to take a look. Wishing to himself that he paid more attention to tracking lessons.

"Eh, two legged things. Animals dunnu shuffle der feet n' ova turn stones. You tinken wildhumes er some bloody Korshed make this green shit hole home?" Gailia hated the heat and humidity of this place. It reminded her too much of the sweaty nights as a child, down wind of the rift. The wet filth in the streets making the place damp and putrid. It took her almost a year to redevelop her scent of smell and even today it was muted compared to "well-off" Chelians.

That place was a rubble heap now, smashed inbetween The Kyorl and the Vloz.

Ash'arion, absorbed in the metal of the bolt handed to him by his captain, uncharacteristically left studying their environment to his squadmates. Only half-paying attention to them as he considered this remarkable material that was lighter than steel but possibly just as strong, he trudged along behind them using only the instincts of following a teammate to guide him.

*****************************A return trip to the village, much bathing and equipment cleansing later*******************

"Guys...I really hate to admit this for various reasons, but..." He was starting to regret volunteering to identify the metal. He'd done all of the tests he could on it without proper smithing tools (the halme ones could hardly be called 'proper') and only managed to discover that whatever it was wasn't quite as resistant to impacts as true steel was, however, its tensile strength was impressive. Almost frightening. If chainmail were to be made of this strange metal, it would be superior to steel mail, even if plates of it were inferior to steel plate. One could only hope this material was very rare. "This is steel. And not the stuff I'm wearing or even the better kind most of you have. This is Noble Steel. I've found virtually nothing in the way of impurities. As you might guess from the nickname, it's very high quality, very expensive stuff, usually reserved for Vals. We need to find whoever has this, get it away from them, and destroy their means of producing it. Immediately."
