130619 Golden Tower

Postby suntiger745 on Thu Jun 20, 2013 10:15 am

A bit of a flashback in this one. Most of the events take place before you reach teh golden tower, which you came in sight of in the last leader page.

Also found out that Empathy isn't used for healing which I'd previously thought. Let's jus say Dycle is trying to scan Mirtis to find out exactly where his injuries are. That Empathy can do, since it's sensing the pain.

Ash's experiments need a bit more work before they, well, work. That's what Sanndelora went to ask An'jhali about.

I thought the propeler was larger so i had specified that the glider was to be tethered to a boom anchored in one of the ballista mounts so the rope would ome out far enough to not get tangled in the propeller.
Guess this works too. ;)

A note for the last panel. You circled around the tower but then landed beside it.
I had intended for you to land on top of the tower at first but... You'll see why in the coming leader page. :)

By the way, the female in the captured mimian scout armor is Nawym, one of the mana specialists. That's why she has a foci gauntlet.

I see. I was under the impression that the project needed knowledge that we collectively did not posses. things from a golem engineer found in a city or great clan

Hmmm, interesting. So is an empathic healer someone who is an empath that also knows Blood and Bone High Arts? Using their empathic abilities to sense out exact injury and then treat that injury while dulling (suppress) the pain of treatment. With fae this likely amps their natural resilience due to their aura's life preserving effects. Goblins and Ferrals have no such defense mechanisms and sometimes fall into shock and die of their mind willing it, basically.

I don't think it works that way...

empathy healing still requires another person to treat you for the actual injury, if MA says anything about it. Else it would be terribly overpowered and overtake the need for conventional healing

Hey ST, what's the status on the climate gear armor project? Did we make any progress on it?

I wonder if empathy is used as a sort of anesthesia or perhaps numbing agent which is what they mean whenever they say "I can ease the pain". They cannot fix it, but they can pinpoint where the person needs treatment and keep the patient calm to ensure whatever work needs to be done (ie: amputation, surgery) is accomplished without actually having to fight them (cuz pain makes us do crazy things).

There are also herbs that can be used as numbing agents, in fact that there are tons of herbs out there to treat all sorts of illnesses, injuries, conditions, etc. I think, if healers are typically using more conventional methods, we should really look into collecting and cataloging herbs, which would include turning them into medicines. Whenever we stop somewhere, we could take advantage of trying to find rare herbs. If the medical bay does not have a lab, we might be able to make one and benefit.

All healers prior to PTP3 should know some degree of using mana arts to find wounds, mend cracked bones, and other minor improvements, as per day 57.

We could utilize wood sorcery to start a green house of sorts for harvesting medicinal herbs for the healers.

I think that would be beneficial, although I'm not sure where or how we would build one on a floating ship(I don't think we have enough suitable soil, either). We could do it with whatever herbs/medicines we have on stock, but I think we'd still need to find more herbs for wood sorcerers to play with if we're going to expand on what we already have.

Next port we stop at, it might be good for the healers to check in with traders to see if they have any medicines or research books we could buy/trade. With us traveling extensively, we might be able to find some good stuff and/or learn some new skills.

It's ok. This has been done before.

Er, I have to admit I'm not sure what that's from. Is that on an airship?

In Tenchi Muyu, this was in a dimension and physics defying anime spaceship. No whole planetoids and whole micro eco systems in a shuttle craft for us thought.

We're in a large, heavy vehicle being held up by a levitating rock and planning on growing the plants with mana. Please explain to me how this example is a significant difference.

Edit: Aside from the fact that the anime version can go into space and the specific plants used are sentient trees.

The point still stands that we can probably reserve a room for a greenhouse to grow exotic plants we find on our travels. It also serves to get in some training with using wood sorcery for various tasks, imo...

Besides the fact that we're talking about two completely different world settings where 'magic' works differently? And um, we don't use sentient trees.

Botany, so far, has been done via the old fashioned method that we see today. Wood sorcery simply accelerates growth. We don't know if it can produce suitable soil for planting, and we'd likely need an earth specialist(or someone skilled in that field, like a former farmer) to determine such a thing. Furthermore, as I said, we would have to acquire enough soil to create a viable greenhouse, in addition to having the proper environment. Certain plants have to be tended a certain way and have certain conditions. Having a greenhouse at the colony would be better, and whenever we stopped in we could deliver seeds from other areas, and restock on herbs and medicines. This would likely require us recording the plant's habitat, so if we did return with something unique it can be utilized.

We cannot accomplish everything because 'magic'. That's not how it works in this world setting. There are a lot of things that require conventional and realistic means to accomplish. But ST would have the final verdict on whether or not a greenhouse on a boat would be feasible. I personally cannot see us being able to craft something large scale on a moving vehicle, but a small habitat for certain types of plants, sure. Regardless, it's something to look into.

Goods news everyone, we already have a room reserve for plant life, mana bearing and otherwise. Here's the link, fourth panel from the top:

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but what Toruel said to Fila'sofi gives me the impression that Fila has some knowledge of botany, maybe even wood or plant affinity or foci. Just wishful thinking on my part.
