The Moat, and a bridge

Postby blackjack217 on Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:41 pm

Well we have more or less finished the moat and then I realized we never built a bridge. ^^;
So in the interest of not being trapped inside our city I propose this:
Image
Golem driven winch of course, wide enough for two and a half wagons to travel abreast. Golem winch to be substituted with a hand winch if there are insufficient resources. Primarily wood with classic iron portcullis

Images found on google, not by me.

Have it be a hand winch to start with and upgrade to golem later.

Actually, the bridge part should be the absolute first priority.

now that the moat and the towers are ready we must build catapults or scorpions on the towers i think and if we do that an old topic pops up again. To clear the forest around the colony ... to have a clear view on enemys and to get a clear shot too.....

I´m for putting wooden stakes into the moat first before we flood it with water.
Else the enemy could swim through it or dive through it. With stakes they would get hurt doing so even if their ranged units are shooting at our walls to give their troops cover.
It wouldn´t take much time unlike building the moat and that way we cam make use of the many felled trees/lumber we have left over at the warehouse. Also it´s one of the easiest ways to upgrade the safety of our town/the deadly danger of our moat.

With enough slaves/supporters this should take but one maximal two turns.

Is it an acceptable idea? :3

Actually, it occurred to me we didn't make a gate for the walls.

EDIT: Nevermind, we have one, needs a door though: http://www.drowtales.com/~pathtopower/archive.php?sid=8107

I like the stakes idea. I was also thinking of lining the edges of the moat with those griffon deterrent things from a while back.

Not if the spikey stakes are hidden under the water of the moat.
