Wall Reinforcement project.

Postby 3Power on Thu Oct 06, 2011 12:36 am

I asked our lovely GM about the state of our walls at this point and learned that they are thin stone walls that probably wouldn't keep out anything actively trying to get through them. They are so thin we cannot safely walk on them. I think this needs to change and fast. Thus, my goal is to fully upgrade our walls into barriers strong enough to repel an enemy assault.

There are several upgrades I have in mind.
1. Wooden reinforcement: Crossbeams of wooden logs running through the middle of the wall in order to slow down the effects of anyone trying to use earth mana to pull it down.
2. More stone: Actually widening the thickness of the walls.
3. Ramparts/Patrol area: Allows us to safely walk on the wall.
4. Towers: A few towers, for a higher viewpoint and with rotatable platforms for ballistas.
5. Wooden stakes to keep people from approaching the base of the wall.

Two of those we can do while we wait for stone. This is a large, likely long term project that can be put on hold when needed, but I'd like to have a little bit done on it every week.

Awesome idea. We are so isolated, I think it would be a good idea to turn our village into a fort as much as possible. Including having better defences.

For now we have a lot of wood, we can probably try option 1 if a good design is submitted. Remember the ground is still covered in snow, we will need to wait for the thaw in spring to do anything in terms of additional outer defence.

Just go with the same way those Chinese built their own wall of China. A mix of clay bricks, stones and plain old earth.

I do like this idea. It'll be a big task, but one that could easily work with enough time. So, yes.

I think the biggest issue with wall development is the lack of stone at the moment, right? Have we been able to rectify this with Map Actions yet?

We're now showing 500 stone in the inventory. I'm not sure what that translates to in terms of what can be done with it, but that wasn't there before.

Tim - very nice work - seems you have studied up some historical European fortification sources - actually all the 4 stages equals to the statges of the city wall building in my home country *bigsmile* . You are missing only the flanking towers sub-stage (between 3 and 4), bastions (from stage 3), pre-walls (from stage 2) and the final diamond baroque stage 5 :] . Unfortunatelly it is a little bit unclear if your actual wall allready equals to your first picture (stage 1), or its still a colony-style pallisade...
