I fail to see the need for a school, our children won't be old enough to influence events in the game and will only be npcs unless there is another timeskip of 20 years or so then the building will do nothing to help us. It will simply waste time and resources that could be used elswere. For role-play purposes we could simply have the children schooled at home or at a stretch a multi purpose building like a town hall or something...

I would like to seeing a school spring up, but I have to wonder of the timing for it is right atm. Unless there is a immediate need to use the structure, then as Tyrl mentioned, it could be a waste of materials that should go into other projects.

Well, just like Tim's KII will be for story purposes, the school would be as well. And just think, if we are under attack, wouldn't it be good for the kids to all be in one place instead of scattered around the colony?

Perhaps the building could be built slightly smaller, and with a more open floor plan, that way we could use it as a general gathering area for meeting and other usues until such time as it is needed as a school..

I had an area within the Eat at Katrina's II (second level) that could be designated as a school area and would be within the concept of the structure as a community center. In floor space it would be about three class rooms I think.

I don't want to dictate where you take this, but please take into consideration that there will be a limited amount of children, not hordes of them. Holding classes for adults might also be viable (much like Orthorbbae does) and is something you may want to consider. You should keep this in mind when you spend clan resources on the building.

On a side note I do have a secondary character that I'm planning bringing down that has a small horde of children.

Well, keep in mind that this building as a whole isn't particularly large (about a small-to-medium 2bedroom house in size)... The 2 *dedicated* classrooms would only be able to contain a dozen or so children, any more and the third 'extra' room has to be used. Basically a single building is designed to cater to a (preferred) total of 24 students at a time, with a maximum range of 30-36 (with 'extra' room used for a class). So one building would be dedicated to younger students aged 10-20 (actual children). A second 'mirrored' duplicate of the building would be used for more adult classes, such as mana-arts (children of 20-30, plus any older clan member who requires/desires formal education - clearly the second will be more common). There is also the 'RP' factor - classes such as the Vieled Script could be run in the 'adult' facility.

Another factor to consider, is that after the time skip, we will have non-clan commoners living with us, some of whom might be willing to pay to have THEIR children educated (thus increasing the demand for dedicated facilities, and providing a source of income to 'repay' the cost of constructing them).

Finally, if demand IS low enough to render such a building relatively useless, there is the simple fact that i have purposely designed it to be relatively generic, allowing it to be 're-purposed' for some other use.

JD

PS: I hope i didn't sound 'grumpy' with any of this, but I must confess a small degree of annoyance towards some, who have been thinking far too small-scale in terms of this subject/project...

As much as i hate double posting, i figure it worth it at this point... Suffice to say i now have a finished version of the second educational structure i had been working on... I give you the "Tei'Kaliath Archive"!

Seems like no one as responded to JD's design which I like. The only thing I would like for it is possible area set aside for class rooms, a gymnasium area for Ti'ray training and offensive/defensive mana art training, teacher's quarters if a teacher may choose to live there. And then the superfluos stuff like a greenhouse to teach about botany.
