PtP2- Questions

Postby Zeedr on Sun Nov 14, 2010 10:18 pm

Okay, Taruna suggested I make a question thread. It will make it easier for the new GM to get to our questions at her own pace and not be bogged down by PMs and questions that she cannot answer at the moment. It will also allow some of your questions that the community could answer to be seen. Questions will be categorized into Game Mechanic and World Setting Questions. More categories will be added as needed. Be patient, some of this we might have to find out on our own. Some might not have been decided yet. If Thalar would rather gather questions a different way, then I will take this down.

Game Mechanic Questions

- How will leveling work(More of an explanation would be nice)?
- How will the MS work now?
- How will the combatants work, i.e. Warriors and Scouts, without a definite leader?
- Will your job in PtP1 give you a bonus in your levels in PtP2?
- Will we get to redesign our characters?
- Will counter actions still be possible?
- Could someone do something that only benefits them? For instance, could someone make a special weapon only for them?
- I want to do something with a square of land(for example), but someone else wants to do something different with it. How do we decide what happens?
- [Dice Warwick] Will we get personal items, (weapons, tools, accessory, or anything random)?
- [Merlune] Classes, how many and what types?
- [Merlune] If the maps are based on squares, how would you move? Would it be like a pawn, only left, right, front and back? Or would it like a queen, diagonally, jumping, moving at will?
- [Lyrthis] Will the new characters of formerly dead players be from before timeskip, from after or can every player decide for himself if his char has joined the clan before or after the timeskip?
- [Lyrthis] Will those with a new living character be able to have children, if in a family, regardless if they're from before or after the timeskip?
- [Jonarus_Drakus] What happens to any 'inactive' characters? Will they still 'exist' and carry on in a limited 'auto-pilot' fashion? Or will they just (however temporarily) vanish?
- [kirio] With a 15 year time jump coming, everyone's ages will have to be adjusted accordingly. How is that going to be handled? Also, there are a couple of dozen characters at or near the top of the age limit. How will that be handled? Will the age limits for new characters remain 30-125?
- [kirio] So far, mana affinities have only been a color feature in the RPs, will they be a factor in the new game for mana skills?
- [Taruna] Will the Forums be purged?

World Setting Questions

- Will the kids be Drow or Dark Elves?
- Will we gain any knowledge in mana arts or golem tech?
- How will we train in mana without Ortho?
- Is our alliance with the Sharen still on?
- Do we start out with any basic buildings/resources/knowledge of our surroundings?
- [Dice Warwick] Relic Hunters, is there a possibility of it tie-ing into PtP?
- [Merlune] Mana Research, can we do it and how would it work?

I wonder more about the question if we start living on the surface if we will die sooner then living in chel near the mana source. *hmmm*

Easily answered. We are certainly in enough numbers to create a big enough "Mana field" that we don't have to fear dieing of mana-lack.

A better question is, does the lack of a large ambient mana field as is found in Chel weaken our overall mana usage?

Same as before. Since we apparently won't be the only ones around, our own produced mana field should suffice. Don't think a big mana field makes you a better mana user. It's still "restricted" to your own mana usage and mastery. You can't get an cat trough a eye of a needle too.

That's pretty much how an "excess" mana field works, basically a drow produces mana, so much so that a certain amount always bleeds off into the surrounding area, a single drow would not produces enough to stop themselves from aging, however if a large enough group exists the excess mana be in such a high quantity that it will stop the aging process after reaching adulthood, that excess will stay with you if you go away from the field, for a decent amount of time without ill effects (like the highland raiders), but eventually you will have to go back into said field for a time to replenish yourself.

From the situation that we are in now, with over 200 members, we will probably create a big enough excess mana field to sustain us, add to that the fact that we will be able to create more then one character in the future, so we probably will at the least double our numbers, and the fact that we probably share our town with the Nal, so there might be a decent amount of NPC's too, I don't think we'd be in to much trouble.

Taruna is correct, the mana you use is your own, not that of the ambient field around us that we all create together, mana users can actually collapse from burning out their own mana pool (Tali suffered from this during the defense of the South gate), since a drow's manapool replenishes itself over time usually rest is the only thing required to refill the lack of mana.
Ambient Mana is really only used for two things, one is basically to support the drow's endless lifespan, the other is the power devices that require very low amounts of mana, like street lights, and thus not require a crystal foci to power them.

The utter end of PtP 1 and the start of PtP 2 will definitely be announced in time. Please be patient with it everyone and do not write mails to Kern "when does PtP2 start?"

Here are my questions:

Classes, how many and what types?

Next is mana research, can we do that and how will that work? Will it be involved with relics? The reason that I brought up relics is because they are very valuable based on what they can be sold for. But for us, we wont have that many buyers around. So, whenever we find one, why don't we keep it and try to reverse engineer it?

For the levels, how many would there be and how would it work?

If the maps are based on squares, how would you move? Would it be like a pawn, only left, right, front and back? Or would it like a queen, diagonally, jumping, moving at will?

Last but not least, here on the speculation page I tried to answer some of my own questions.

I do remember that "for Reza's sanity" we would not be able to change the looks of our characters for the epilogues.

But will we be able to alter the appearence for PtP2? Or if we stick with the old characters we also stick with the old looks?

Re: PtP2- Questions

Postby Lyrthis on Thu Nov 18, 2010 8:04 pm

btw, we know that players with dead chars will have to wait till PtP 2.0 and the multi character system to create a new "living" one.

My Question now are:
1.will those new chars be from before timeskip, from after or can every player decide for himself if his char has joined the clan before or after the timeskip?
2.will those with a new Character be able to have children, if in a family, regardless if they're from before or after the timeskip?

I can only think of one big one, in regards to the Multi-character system:

> What happens to any 'inactive' characters? Will they still 'exist' and carry on in a limited 'auto-pilot' fashion? Or will they just (however temporarily) vanish?
