While I support the idea of the militia, I'm planning on specializing the crafters in a different way. We're taking up archery practice. The nurses have battle training, and they can fight better than anyone else in the clan besides the warriors. The scouts aren't supposed to be a battle rank, see the Quel episode for details, but they can use their bolts most effectively due to training and Kern bowing to the reality of the situation. The ranks can take up militia training, even if we won't be as effective as the warriors, we'll be more effective than we are now. We haven't before because... well, time. So much to do! And there was this tiny hope that we wouldn't have to be a Military clan. Unfortunately, we seem to be pigeon holed into that option by the size of our clan.

Just keep in mind, there's some vague sort of BIG CHANGE in the mechanics of the game on the way. I think Kern's noticed our problem with numbers as well, its not like its been a big secret. Before finalizing your plans, wait for our survival (or not) and see what Kern's big plans are. It might just address the problem. And if it doesn't, you'll be ready to go with it.

Altho i don't think that we do need to turn into a military clan, stepping up our offensive and defensive capabilities is surely needed and a militia would help greatly in this regards.

And naturaly any proposals/LA should wait till we have won, but we still can discuss what/how the militia should look like and find 2 or 3(or more) options for a poll, a poll that can then be turned into a LA to An'jhali. And maybe we agree to only one option here already... then we can scrap the poll and go right to posting an LA when the time has come(and change it here if Kern does change the gameplay).

@Sen'gill: Tho 3P is right about sending a PM to Kern first, your post has more then one or two merits and i hope you'll allow me to take those gems and mix it with my ideas to make:

Lyrthis Militia Proposal Version 1.0:
LA Text wrote:Illhar An´Jhali, please let us form a Militia to defend home/help warriors.

OOC Concept behind it:
sort of like the national guard, as they might not be as good as the marines(like our warriors are), any smith, builders, miners, etc.(or faceless) can volunteer or be send to it by his commanding Ranked to learn basic combat abilities (like which way to hold that pointy staffthing, how to form a porcupine or turtle, no manashield or other fancy stuff tho) and then return to his job.

Equipment:
Spear + Shield or Sling(Weapon may change if a special Weapon is introduced for a job), Light Armour(Scout?)

Game Mechanics/Implementation:
Any player may get basic combat training through posting a "Voluteer Work" (or voting for it) stating that he wants to be trained as Militiamen, alternatively the commanding Ranked may send his Worker/s(and only his own) to train as Militiamen for a turn. Everyone trained will then be listed in the Warriors Thread as a Militiamen(or if it could be easily done, maybe color coded like the wound level at the PtP-Main) that can be called to duty by the Warmaster/mistress or send to duty by his commanding Ranked. In case of more then one action requesting a player/char use Right-of-Way rule(eg1.Volunteer work->2.commanding Ranked of char->3.Warmaster/mistress->4.Ambassador->5.every other Ranked(last 2 just in case WM AND commanding Ranked not able to post action)).

so, anyone has another option? Then post it, maybe use the same/similar style i did above and remember keep it short and keep it simple, the more Kern/GM has to do, the more likely it is that he will turn it down.

You know when Taruna gets a new weapon as warmistress like a very cool sword, we could use Shiirs spear as a blueprint for our Militia weapon to inspire every Militia to be like the glorius old Warmaster. :D

EDIT:

How about we make the poll a much simpler question (that is if we survive this battle):

Do you want a Militia/be ready to join/support it?

Yes
No

How is that? With that we can see how strongly the clan supports that direction and if we get enough votes we´ll work together with the ranked on how we tell that Kern and advise An'Jhali about it. :)

Yeah, keep it simple for now, gather support for the general idea, details can be worked out later.

My vote would be 'yes' by the way...

After thinking about it, dude, I think doing this outside of the ranked system is a bad idea. It's an unnecessary deviation from the basic structure of the game. Just let us independently improve the combat capabilities of the ranked - it's that easy. A parallel militia system is unnecessary when we can do it this way.

Hmmm... I kinda agree, if only because it would allow the 'militia' of the various ranks to specialise to a certain degree...

As soon as Friday update is up and confirms we´re still kicking i´ll get the poll up to see if the clan wants a militia and is prepared to join it aka loss his life if another invasion like this one happens or not. :3

I've always said that engineers could become combatants by making some real war golems already. But I always recieve some kind of resistance that we can't make such golems. We can and we can make em good. It's the little things we can't make. Golem arm? Look how big it was! Too big for a person. But make it bigger, it'll work! And with feet not wheels. To illustrate what a war golem is, here's an motivational poster: http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.ph ... =1&check=1

Crush, smash, rip and tear, rip and tear! That's what engineer could be >:3
