Destructible Times (Command & Conquer X-over)

At the front of the auditorium, McNeil managed to briefly re-take the microphone, as to answer Carl's question.

"The reason we don't use an ion cannon, nukes, or any other external assault, Lieutenant, is because the tower itself is impervious to anything we throw at it. The Scrin somehow have managed to get the molecules that make up the tower to resonate at just the right frequency to render it more or less invulnerable."

"Using resonating molecules to make something invulnerable..." Sam said, thinking out loud. "Sounds like the rumors of Stalin's old Iron Curtain device aren't as far-fetched as you'd think."

"There is one other thing you should know." Maja said, taking back the microphone. "Gideon has swayed members of the Black Hand to his cause - including many Confessors. You'll need filter-masks for this mission."

Sam blanched. To fight regular Black Hand troops was one thing. To fight Confessors? That was something else entirely. While Confessors had weaker armor than 'normal' Black Hand soldiers, and less discipline as well, they made up for that in several other ways. The first, was their fanaticism. Only Nod's suicide bombers in Tib War III had shown a greater dedication to Kane. The second, were their charged particle rifles, which were like something out of an old space-opera show. And the third, were their hallucinogenic grenades, which spread a mist of chemicals that made soldiers see things that weren't there, and caused them to confuse friend for foe. This would not be an easy mission if what Maja said was true.

"In order to get to Gideon as quickly as possible, you will be guided along the path of least resistance once you enter the tower. We managed to plant a bug in one of Gideon's cyborgs before he managed to take control of the tower. Since none of the Marked of Kane would join him on his quest, he was forced to use leftover ones from the Second Tiberium War. Some of the few who didn't succumb to CABAL's madness."

"The attack begins in fifteen minutes." McNeil said, trying to wrap the briefing up as quickly as possible. "Dismissed."

Rejan noticeably froze, when he saw the priestess walk into the meeting room. It wasn't out of fear, but it jar the mind seeing someone like that down here in a GDI base. "Easy." was all the Frenchman had to say on the matter at the moment. He half expected to see her blow up in their faces.

Defections from the highter ups were a rare thing to him.

"Probably... Cyborgs don't need to sleep like us. Unless EMP can affected them. Might clear our path enough to get in."

Rejan stood up. Ready to get geared up.

Shynt got out of his seat and spoke to McNeil "General, Is possible for me and a squad to recon that area? We need to find a weakness in the defenses before we even think about attacking those fanatics."

After getting his answer he picked up his gear and went with the rest of the commandos.

Carl would sit back down and growl slightly, "That's why." he would say to Sin. Keeping his voice down as he made a dark joke, "With chloroform, duck tape, and jumper cables. That'd be the only proper way to 'seduce' her. And I would imagine they do protect her 24/7." He'd put his helmet on, "Just so I'm 100% clear, we infiltrate as far in as we can, then start blowing things up and slaughtering Nod renegades before they activate a portal to a Scrin world?" He went with the others to do a final gear up.

Sin turned to Carl "Well, let's go find out shall we?"

Sin threaded her way through the crowd in the opposite direction, heading towards the podium, hoping to catch Maja whlilst she was still there.

"Maja, Maja!" Sin called, hoping to get her attention

(Do I assume that I'm successful here? or what? Screw it, I'm assuming I'm successful)

"Hi, I just wanted to say thanks, and to tell you that I'm glad that the two sides are working together on this. I know that my race is particularly bad at this sort of thing, so it's pleasing to see the old adage finally get some substance to it. Which old adage? Oh, the one about Yesterday's Enemies being Tomorrow's Friends and Today's fuckbuddies. Oh, you don't say it that way? I guess that's different cultures and all."

"Sorry, looks like the rest of my team are getting ready, I hope I can see you after all this" Sin smiled and slinked her way back out of the room.

(Forum RP sucks for conversations with NPCs, why do I even bother?)

Wait, what is she... oh no. Sam thought as Sin ran down the auditorium to the Nod priestess. Desperately trying to prevent Tib War IV from accidentally breaking out, Sam took off after her. Inwardly, he cringed as he heard Sin's comment about 'yesterday's enemies being today's friends and tomorrow's fuckbuddies'. Only to nearly stumble as he saw Maja hold up her hand to signal her cyborg bodyguards to lower their particle cannons. Then he saw the smirk on her face. The smirk of someone who had heard infinitely worse - most likely from assorted scum living in dilapidated Yellow Zone towns - the ones that remained unclaimed by GDI, Nod, or the Forgotten.

"You are right, of course. Yesterday's enemies can be today's friends." she began, before making direct eye contact with Sin. "However, never forget that the reverse is also true. Today's friend could just as easily throw a knife in your back tomorrow."

Oh thank God. Sam thought. That had gone infinitely better than he had anticipated. Next, he turned just in time to hear General McNeil respond to Shynt's question.

"We were actually assembling a squad for just that." McNeil said with a slight chuckle. "Glad to see we have our first volunteer."

With that, Sam let out a relieved sigh, and put his helmet on. If all went well, they'd probably be downing copious amounts of pizza and beer within a few hours. However, Sam had also come to learn that things very, very rarely went according to plan. He couldn't help shake the feeling that the next few hours might also be spent running from a Buzzer Swarm or Annihilator Tripod.

"Lets hope the Nods at the Base are ill equip sent to Antarctica types." But with their luck they wouldn't be. Seeing cyborgs this close up was unnerving in the least. He was waiting for someone to shoot him in the back. He remembered the only time he saw cyborgs this up close, standing over burned rubles of another time.

"Thank you, General." Shynt replay to McNeil "I just hope those troops are better at being discreet than the ones that accompanied me on my last mission."

He then herd Sin talking to the Brotherhood priestess. He looked back at the general and whispered " Can you please tell me how she got in this base? And I'm talking about the tainted drow, not Maja. She been saying she been doing experiments with Tiberium and I don't know if she's been practicing the proper safety procedures. She also seems to be acting strangely too. Has she been checked by a psychiatrist recently? Because I don't think she mentally fit for battle."

After getting his answers from McNeil, he saluted him, put on his helmet, picked up his gear, then moved towards where the reconnaissance squad were stationed.

Carl's mouth was stuck in the jaw dropped position for a solid 5 minuets, a speechless 5 minuets. Finally, "Did she just? Did she really just? And no ones dead?" He would pinch his arm through the EV suit, "I'm dreaming aren't I? I'm having one of those weird dreams. I feel asleep on the drop ship and someone's drawing on my visor right now." He would collect his gear and follow the others to their new recon assignment.

Sin looked Maja straight back, and couldn't help but think that her eyes were, *purrrrrs* "You're very right about that" she said to Maja "That sentence is our society right there. It's why we make fuckbuddies today, you never know what side they'll be on tomorrow. Hopefully we can talk some more after this mission is over, maybe over some food perhaps?"

Sin continued to leave, not wanting to hold her new team mates up too much. Sin walked past Carl on the way out, wondering where she put her texta.

Sam shook his head at the conversation between Sin and Maja. He'd certainly heard weirder before, but that still didn't make this any less awkward. He began triple-checking his equipment, just to be sure. His GD-10 rifle was fully loaded, and he had all the extra bullets, grenades, rockets, and power packs in could need. His laser pistol was fully charged, and his jet-pack was fully fueled. He passed by Carl, who stood with his jaw agape, but not before hearing McNeil's response to Shynt's question.

"She said she was... oh, of course. You see, Sin's a bit of a gadfly - likes to say things to see people's reactions. Her experiments weren't so much with Tiberium itself, as they were with Tiberium-mutated animals. Specifically, with their psychology and behavior." McNeil paused. "As to how she got on the base... well, that was probably some logistics officer's decision, lieutenant. It's not like I hand-pick every single person on this base." McNeil chuckled. "Besides, sometimes the best soldiers are also the loopiest. Take Colonel Parker, for instance."

"Well, that explains a lot." Sam said to himself, his voice just barely above a whisper.

(OOC: Yes, animal psychology is a real subject. My cousin Nikita studied it, where she did a lot of work with.... turtles. I could easily see her and Kiel bonding over turtles, as well as the fact that they have similar personalities.)

"No I don't think you are dreaming my friend." Rejan said to Carl, as he watched him be speechless for more then a suitable time.

(I'm going to have to bow out guys. I got a lot on my plate right now, and I don't want to hold you guys up.)

Carl would recover a bit more as McNeil explained about Sin. "I think they normally call such people Sociopaths." was all he could muster. He would follow Shynt and the others to the elevator to get ready to deploy. Putting his helmet on and trying to mentally prepare himself.

"Sociopaths is it?" Sin thought to herself, following everybody else. "Like these goblins are any different. I'm sure we'll see this when we see combat."

"Where are we going by the way?" she wondered aloud
