Predator/Prey

The City lights flickered asleep like the eyes of a monstrous beast as the late evening rain poured lightly over it. It was the time for the nightly warning, were the company town stopped being a cheery provider of jobs for countless workers, but a dangerous place for those who did not belong. Only the city center was still warm, as the man behind everything in the City threw his “going-away party”, supposedly before going on a trip to go hunting with other powerful business men. Of course that was only the cover story. In actuality, the man would disappear into a place no assassin's blade could reach. He knew that his plans would anger a great many very powerful men, and knew it was only a matter of time before they sought him eliminated. Unfortunately for him, the blades were already here.

Alex McCeol, known to the criminal underworld as Morrigan, watched the party from the empty apartment that she had broken into several hours before. It was her third choice for a look out spot, which is why she chose it, the other two likely to have the usual mooks patrolling to prevent any unwanted characters (such as herself) from taking a shot at any of the VIPs. Normally she wouldn't have cared, but this was a company town, and a slip up would let the target know someone was coming. That just wouldn't do.

Morrigan reached over to the cabinet and grabbed the small phone, before hitting the send button on her prepared message. This caused a small sensor spike in the target's office (which she had already been through earlier in the week, disguised as a patent lawyer), which in turn alerted security, which in turn alerted the target. Alex smirked as the man she was watching looked at his own phone, then at his less the subtle (and a few of the much more subtle) members of his security team. “And the game is on." she said into her earpiece as she exited the building via the fire escape, moving toward the parking garage where the target (presumably) and his entourage were headed.

The pieces are in place. Now time to make the first move.

((Office party!!))

A party? Seriously? Was this man insane?

Far overhead, a micro-UAV locked into an orbit around the office building. Ezekiel had been given free-reign to do whatever it took to eliminate the man. Well. Fastest way to do that would be to drop a shit-ton of explosives, no? Unfortunately, the guy refused to exit the building.

No matter, Ezekiel was perfectly comfortable. He was seated on the roof of his safe-apartment's building in a very cushy arm chair with a very large umbrella over his head and his things. In front of him was a tv-screen, displaying the mUAV's video feed and HUD. He laid the UAV's remote control on the card-table to the left of his chair. To the right was a mortar tube and a stack of laser guided, incendiary mortars. When the time came, he would launch the mortars, capture the evidence on video-feed, and call it a day.

On the card table was a glass, a bucket of ice, and a bottle of scotch. He picked up the glass and placed three ice cubes inside it. Then he carefully poured the scotch for maximum deliciousness, toasted the tv-screen, and took a sip.

"Here's to your speedy and complete death, my good man," he said quietly.

---

((Now, to business:

1. How will we tell if we got the right guy?
2. What's to stop one of us killing the guy in the next few posts? Is the target just that rich that he can afford super-ballistic armor or something?))

Security rushed about the building of the wealthy mans property, so intent on trying to keep their charge safe that they failed to notice some important details. Like the canister attached to the ceiling, or the small box near the door to the parking garage. Or the canister beneath the cars.

Or the death machine waiting for them in the garage. Inside of the enormous building stood a tall figure, a giant machine gun in hand, surrounded by several bodies of crushed and bloodied security. In this tall figures hands, said tall figure covered in a giant rain-cloak like garb, raised about three feet from the ground was the last remaining security guard who'd been told to watch the parking garage in case something happened. To ensure that the exit point was clear.

The guard gagged and coughed as the powerful hands gripped at the mans throat. He glared down at the giant figure, suddenly pulling out his pistol.

"Die you fucker!" He yelled as best he could, unloading round after round. He smiled triumphantly- which quickly turned to one of terror as the tall figure did nothing, it's four glowing red eyes just staring at him from beneath the hood.

"W-what are you?" He managed to ask. No response came except five words- but they did not come from the tall figure.

"And the game is on."

And with that, the mans life ended with a crack as his neck was snapped, his body thudding on the ground. A voice rang from a nearby radio that laid on the ground.

"Security team T, requesting confirmation that the garage is secure. Sending in Team G to aid in securing garage. Team T, please resp-" Crack. A metal boot crushed the radio.

"Let it begin."

((...Wait, do we know that other assassins are after the target/do we know each other? I take that answer is "we do", as Blackshade has already made a point leading to that plan))

"Understood. Team F will standby in the hall. Proceed to plan #5."

Things were going too easy on this. Zangoku had already took some liberties few days backwards, caught a security team leader and took up his spot in the system. Didn't take him that long to know all the standard procedures of the place, especially after creating and injecting the guy with few chemicals... Humans became so talkative so easily, with violence and drugs.

He had taken this job with the title "Mistblade", known implant-blade wielding, riddle-speaking charming young man with a flirty attitude toward women who could get trough nearly any security check without problems. Not that it was true, but somehow people believed characters like these.

However, things were starting to heat up. Somebody had launched an alarm, and now the whole place was running around in high alert. Zan cursed in his mind. Must have been Morrigan, her words had been too well synced with the alarm launch.
This way he could never get out of here alive easily...
But who would love to have it easy, anyway?
Zan had used all this time around studying his target: This way, right now he would know quite a lot of their defense, way of moving, and most importantly, the next step in plan.
'Escort the target to the car, prepare stand-ins and send out all the cars in random order'
It was time for Zan to get to work.
Slowly he started to expand himself, creating small tendrils from his feet and coiling them around the security people close to him, as softly as a feather, with no sensation of feeling anything or warning the targets. Coiling around the limbs, between the clothes in throat area, and around the knees.
As the last last security personnel left with the target, leaving only team F in the hall, Zan began.
With sudden thrill, tendrils turned into metal, cutting and piercing with a surgeon-state efficiency. Voice corals were pierced, knees pulled backwards until they locked in place, arm bones snapped, backbone pulled to a halt straight up and a single main blood vessel cut from each target.
Collecting himself back and walking away, Zan left the personnel of team F to stand still, unable to move, make voice or realize something happened. They passed out rather soon from blood loss, and to any people standing around, it seemed they just suddenly pulled straight, froze up and stood there. Until somebody would notice the blood drifting slowly down their feet. But it would take half a minute at least, maybe even more.

"Well done, beautiful lady. Target decided it's time to flap wings, those left behind are turned into statues, and it is time to make a question: Are we cocoons or beautiful poisonous butterflies?"
Zan spoke to the coded radio frequency he knew others were using while walking in the empty corridor, taking a new form to himself: Short, mixed pure-white hair, young elf-like face and -ears with a jing-yang tattoo on the left cheek, Slim but still powerful-looking body, jeans with the left leg cut off just below the knee, black t-shirt and open leather jacket with no sleeves. His left arm turned slowly into metallic implant, fingers grew into long blades seeming to come out of the arm, and with a pumping sound, shoulder widened and it seemed as metallic pieces pushed out of the arm, making it look like two times larger and more powerful.
Zan just loved when he could feel the fear it caused. Somehow, people always feared the large and bulky-looking blades more easily.

((Going to mess around a bit to stay viable))

On the next orbit, the mUAV's camera caught something odd.

An armored cannon man in the parking garage? What the fuck?

It was one of those tiered ones ((at least, how I imagined it)), so it was kind of easy to see a gigantic figure walking around killing things.

Clearly, the competition was here. A few more searches yielded more oddities. A woman making her way toward the garage and Legolas with a freakin' mecha arm. The hell was going on?

Ah well, nothing a few mortars couldn't fix. The freaks could wait, they had too much cover in that garage. And he didn't have a missile to shoot. Damn. But, the lady was out in the open, mostly.

He activated the laser sight and beamed it onto Morrigan's feet. He slaved the mUAV to her profile (a tricky bit of programming and 500 dollars ensured that it wouldn't be fooled unless the lady could make clones instantaneously) and did some math. Finished, he then adjusted his mortar to get within 50 meters of the woman's position, and fired off a brace (four) incendiary mortars, each containing a several kilo white phosphorus warhead. The guidance cone would guide the mortar rounds into the beam with a 1 meter discrepancy. The blast radius was ten meters.

Less competition meant more money for him, after all. And maybe her death was worth something to someone? The woman was in an alleyway though, so he could conceivably miss, and those mortar's weren't silent. Well, hopefully she'd lack some situational awareness and get killed....

((Okay, so, I think it shouldn't be that difficult to smash in a door and hide in a building, but white phosphorus is hyper lethal and could melt/burn through the bloody door (or maybe the wall) if she doesn't get far enough away at the moment of impact. What say you?))

The greatest thing about being the guy nobody knew about was that when the shit hit the fan nobody ever turned and pointed fingers at you for having caused any of the trouble in the first place. To many the best quality an assassin could have was being absolutely unnoticed, whether it be through simply avoiding ever being detected or being able to cleverly play off the reason why you were there. This was what made Tom such an effective assassin, and it was also probably why up until now nobody had caught wind of him, because he blended in so damn well.

Oh, and he was late.

"Well fuck me." was all the words Tom could muster to describe the situation he was in. He had been called the morning before with a job offer he simply could not turn down, as the pay was far too good even for his standards. Unfortunately a night of celebratory drinking had actually lead him to be late for the very event he was drinking to celebrate and so he had arrived only now, right as everything started to roll into motion. "And now I'm na'er gonna git tae set up before everyone goes in all willy nilly and ruins the surprise. You would think they might have a bit o' finesse, but no, they're about as subtle as one oh them college students at the pub." Drumming his fingers on the well worn leather wraps of the steering wheel of his 64 Landrover Tom very casually pulled up on the opposite side of the parking structure, to a service enterence reserved usually for those employees who had to work at the complex but whom couldn't be seen parking their piece of crap cars anywhere near anyone who made six figures or more. The good part about this was, there was exactly one guard here to deal with. Stopping as the guard flashed his gun Tom eased his trashy 50 year old car up and to a stop and with his left hand cranked down the window.

"Oh good evening officer! I'm a new mechanic called in by management, seems yae got some plumbing problems yer old boys jus' couldn't handle on their own. So they calls me in tae pick up the pieces, and at such a bloody late 'our too." the man on duty gave him a most skeptical look, perhaps because whatever communications system they were using was probably coming alive with all sorts of chatter about explosions and unauthorized personnel.

"Do you have an I.D. then sir? If you don't I'm going to have to ask you to turn your vehicle around and go, you can come back when one has been issu-..." but the man was cut off by a very angry look from Tom whom also took the opportunity to interject his very loud and obnoxious opinion into the matter.

"AN I.D.? LAD DO I LOOK LIKE I HAVE THE PLEASURE OF HAVING AN I.D.? I GET PAYED MINIMUM WAGE AN HOUR FER A REASON, AND IT AIN'T TA STAND AROUND JABBERIN' WITH INCOMPETENT SECURITY GUARDS! NOW ARE YE GONNA OPEN THE GATE OR AM I GONNA HAVE TAE COME AND BOX YER EARS OFF?!" the guard, perhaps not wanting to be yelled at by a man whose breath smelled like cabbage and whiskey, held a hand up to get Tom to be quiet and slid around the side of his vehicle, taking a quick look inside the boot of the landrover for anything suspicious. Aside from a set of old gold clubs and a rather new looking Red craftsman toolbox there wasn't a damn thing conspicuous about the contents of the car at all, so he approached the driver's window and waved him through.

"You're free to go sir, but if you cause any trouble I swear I'll..." but he again had no chance to finish as Tom started to pull away.

"Don't worry mate, I promise you'll never even know I'm here!" famous words from the assassin nobody had ever heard about. With those words Tom drove inside the structure, opposite the end from his target and presumably everyone else.

After communicating with her partner on this job, Morrigan was in for a shock. Apparently someone had hacked her comms. "Damn." she muttered, moving a bit quicker toward her destination, from walking to a light jog while holding the guitar case. This was not to plan at all, and that meant it was time for plan B.

"Smokescreen! Looks like we have company, and not just our friends. Time to go loud." she said into her comms, before switching to the secondary channel. By this time she was in the parking garage, and as soon as she entered she pulled out the silenced pistol from her shoulder holster. It would be time to find the target's car, and leave a present. A going away gift.

(Sorry for the shortness, internet is going on and off)

Fuck. The lady walked into the garage. Not fast enough, it seems. The mortars were already seconds from impact, there was no time!!

*BANG*
*FWOOOOOSH!!!*

And suddenly the street behind Morrigan was on fire. With white phosphorus. The kind that melts through walls. Wooo! Except not really, because the bloody woman WASN'T DEAD.

Still, the flailing bodies and exploding cars were rather entertaining.

((For future reference: mortars take about 30 seconds to impact (estimated from "Band of Brothers" scenes).))

Smokescreen quickly switched com channels, tilting his head to the side, looking outside of the garage, at the burning fire that had erupted out of nowhere. The light from the flames put a somewhat foreboding shadow upon his helmed and cloaked head.

"Morrigan. You alive? We've got a problem."
He growled across the com, hefting his machine gun up and going further into the parking garage. He stomped across the stone, readying his heavy gun for any more guards that may creep up- there's one.

The roar of a machine gun tore through the air for a brief moment as a guard was turned to swiss cheese as he stepped around the corner.

For a moment, the world became the sound of burning and the sight of light. Morrigan was looking in the opposite direction of the impact, but it didn't matter, even with the auto compensators in her sunglasses she was still disoriented. The first thing she heard was someone screaming into her radio. She coughed up blood, then looked down at herself, before opening the unscarred guitar case, and pulling out her own grenade launcher from it.

It had been the coat that saved her in the end. Had she been wearing the older Kevlar, then it would have melted the material onto her skin. The Kevra, it's recently created successor, had been invented for the next gen space vehicle for orbital reentry, replacing the old heat shield's unreliability. The material managed to shield her from the main blast, and the pressure shockwave of the mortar's impact, although she was most certainly injured heavily. "I'm fine, but whoever the bastard who started firing feckin' mortars at me better hope he kills me next time." Standing, up, she looked at the sight of the blast, the forensics of the launch being analyzed by the computer at her safehouse. They gave the trajectory and origin point of the mortars. At that, she looked up and saw the UAV that had targetted her, with some assistance from her AR sunglasses.

"You're next." She said, looking right at the machine's camera, before popping a grenade round directly at it. She then hurried inside the parking garage grenade launcher in hand, before any more mortars showed up, making sure to bring the guitar case.

((for those of you who aren't American, a Linebackers are generally the biggest and often strongest players on an american football team. In the NFL, linebackers generally weigh between 133kg to 136kg.))

Roland drove up to the building in his 300, feeling large amounts of panic, pain, and fear oozing from within.

drat!

someone already got the party started without him. and with all these guards running about, fearing for their immortal souls, his emotion scanning powers would be next to useless. time to improvise.

Roland parked around the block and walked up to the back entrance, slowly raising the one guard's irritation level. sure some poor smuck in a beat up car would get an ear full but he would be sure to avenge him, right after the guard attacked him out of nowhere, prompting a beating, a loss of job, and a nice lawsuit against the company.

Approaching the guard, Roland got the abusive reception he expected.

" Da @#$%! you want!"

"In to the building," said Roland, ratcheting the guard's annoyance level even higher magically. "What did you think I wanted, your piece of shit job, now open the door. or is that too much for your inbred mind to handle?"

The guard, upon having the sexual morality of his mother questioned, snapped and threw a slopy haymaker towards Roland's head, which he easily dodged and countered, leaving the guard unconscious.

now to find the security center and get someone to destroy the tapes. oh, the joys of trolling.

At first, Zan met only the undercover agents and guards. Those ones that were supposed to blend into civilians and cover target unnoticed. Truth was, they fooled nobody with their high posture, ear-phones plugs, a fine black suit and clear gun holster on the waist.
Another truth was the look on their faces when Mistblade walked to their field of vision, hand humming and scrapping the wall with sparkles, carefree grin on his face and a bit relaxed posture, as if he was just killing some time and taking an evening walk instead of coming face to face with their quickly-lifting guns.
But Mistblade was also a quick character.
Before they could really shout out or pull the trigger, Zan had rushed already next to them with few long diagonal steps. The claws in his hand grew into a length of a shortsword, and a single sweep from down to up silenced first of the two. He didn't make a sound, as claws tore up anything in torso, throat and even the face and frontal skull region.
With a snappy side-spin, Zan brought his arm toward the next guy, palm and hand growing in size and suddenly grabbing him from the face, covering shoulders, throat, mouth and nose within his fist and blocking off the air supply for the guard.

As the guard tried to shout and beat fiercely his arm to get free with zero success, Zan began his game. Fingers slowly morphed into hooks, hooks slowly grew longer, and inch by inch tore into man's flesh from behind, until popped out from the chest.
The pain and fear on the man's face was nearly priceless. But only nearly.
Zan looked around, scanning the infrared and magnet signals around the nearby hallways and garages. Right next to him, a human got shot. Seemingly rather violently, at least for the amount of heat spraying around him. No other heat emitter was around, though
It was time to go say hello to any co-workers.

Right hand turned suddenly into a jackhammer, Zan pushed it right into the wall, and released couple of times. Large bangs and cracks could be heard, and suddenly the wall collapsed outside with explosion-feeling force.
Zan switched his grip on the guard's head, grabbing from behind and putting a thumb on the chin, and then pushed the body out of the hole, himself looking trough a small eye made into the same hand. He could see a tall white four-eyed figure in the parking hall.

"Well well, hello there. Are you possibly one of the unseen owls heard in the woods? Nice to meet you. I take you are associated with the dashing hacker man, me?" Zan spoke from other side of the wall while using his hand to move the mouth of the body, Which looked freaky and extremely funny. Still, his hand was larger than a man's head right now, and it got long claws in it, so it might not seem to be so funny at that situation.

Three mortars were now inbound on Roland's position. Hopefully, he'd get in the door before they impacted. Hehehe.

Water can only provide temporary relief, as the particles will spontaneously re-ignite the moment they dry. They must therefore be carefully picked out before re-ignition or doused with copper sulphate, which will prevent re-ignition. Worse yet, its smoke is highly toxic and can also injure or kill.

The hulking figure turned his head at the rather creepy shapeshifter. Staring for about half a second, a voice finally came from the opposing cyborg.

"This is my job. Leave, or die."
He said simply leveling the giant machine gun he had with him on the opposing assassin. Without waiting for an answer, Smokescreen began to unleash hell, a stream of armor piercing bullets shredding anything that got between him and his target.
