Plains of Blood III- Game Thread

The Twilight quietly continued to expand, engulfing the battlefield where the forces of the One, the Myrmidons, and the Fire and Stone once did battle. Where carnage and corpses was once, only a dull grey mist, churning and glowing faintly from within can be seen.

Its tendrils have begun menacing the holds of the Phaedrin and Steamscale by now, the looming fog encroaching upon their borders; an omen of gloom and death.

The battle dragged on for a short time further, but soon the soldiers of The One fell to those of the Guardians of Fire and Stone. Those and that which fled, such as the tribesmen and fragments of The One, were allowed to flee with only distance weapons harassing them on the way out. (Thus there are a few random humans and The One pieces running around out there...)

In all this, the Guardians of Fire and Stone had only displaced marginally, and thus the encroaching fog began to wash over them. Where many creatures might grow nervous or leery of the unnatural mist, the Guardians noted that it did not cause any direct harm and dismissed it as some sort of weather effect unique to this new plane of existance.

The Sixth Army looked up, paling.

"What the FUCK," moaned a Hoplite. "Is there NO SUCH THING AS CATCHING A BREAK?!!" Between the formations of Dog Ships and the encroaching darkness, plus the shouting from the meeting, it seemed like the Sixth Army was in a VERY bad position.

((Going to assume that the Phaedrin have temporarily withdrawn to an honorable distance in order for peace talks to commence. Will also assume that they are currently deciding whether the peace talks are worth it))

Reginald's smile went down a few teeth.
Did this bloody shaved ape really just call me a lizard? I will boil this midget in his own blood! I will bite off his head and...no, remain calm
"I meant no offense, we've just never seen your kind before and I can't tell the difference.. say, do you guys eat meat? we have meat, a bunch of meat back at our place. why don't you come back to our settlement for dinner! Bring the crew with you..."

Reginald's sentence trailed off as he looked up and saw the formation of strange ships heading towards them, with Hermione and ten Masters of Breath coming in low further out.

The pilots drew their pistols as they sprinted towards their ships. Reginald put his armor back on and gave the Sixth Army generals a very hard look.

"This tech is way beyond us, let alone you pre-steam creatures. are they friends of yours or should we prepare for battle?"

-----------------------
Back at the settlement

Drakelius sees an encroaching darkness coming towards the Steam Scale and send back the first wave of civilian settlers. Something isn't right here, he feels it. He orders the first infantry battalion to fly out and scout the area. five tanks in anti personal load outs follow. Snipers on Shooting Stars are put on alert should the darkness make a move.
------------------------------------------

Reginald (750pt) has put on his full gear and is looking at the dog ships but not attacking. the pilots of the Shooting Stars are running towards their crafts(the opposite direction of the Sixth) with guns drawn. Hermonie and ten masters of breath (1750 pts together) is heading towards Reginald.

100 solders (1000pts) are flying into the darkness accompanied by five steam tanks (375pts) in anti-personal load out.

((Note: No change in troop dispositions))

"My apologies," said Knotolis stiffly, still somewhat offended but observant of Reginald's... displeasure. "My tongue was far harsher then was necessary. It is a trait that I attempt to curb at all moments, but am never entirely successful at. However, my comrade's point still stands. Our honor is important to us, more so than our lives if we are sufficiently provoked."

"In regards to your other inquiries, our diet is primarily mixed between meat and plant matter," continued Koraki, much more amenably now that her requisite points had been made. "Also, the encroaching vehicles are not ours, though it is the opinion of the Sixth Army that a similar meeting as to this one should be conducted before any violence is done upon a third party. Our Dromes have the unique capacity to project light displays that can be used to communicate, it is highly plausible that we may assess the incoming bogeys' intent with them. What say you to this course of action?"

----

Meanwhile, the Gastraphes had geared themselves for anti-air duty while everyone else prepared to scatter at the first sign of hostilities. No shots were fired, as standing orders were to fight in self-defense only.

((The return of the Alliance!
No, really, just stopping by so that I can wreck confusion and chaos among you all. Then, disappearing for few days again after this is concluded.))

"-What - The - hell - IS THAT?"
A single scout unit made a visual contact with the dogs, at least spotting them. Which wasn't really hard, considering it was a friggin' small continent-sized ship floating against the skyline.

-----

As with the current situation running on, Alliance's soldiers made rather harsh reactions: The Enemy had used spaceships multiple time against them, searching them over and over with satellite images.
There was nothing to explain.
The great Enemy had come after them.
With that, a complete radio silence was first initiated, soon switching to frequency-changing encoded channels. Thus, dog's message didn't really come over to them.

But the ruler had other things in mind. Sun had risen, and thus the Son was forced to retreat to his chambers once more. Today's battle would go to the Daughter, it seemed. And enemy was close, they knew it.

Scouts had brought reports of the "weird reptilians" camp just a click or two away. Alliance lied in wait, under the Web created by their illusionists. Plans were made. Preparations were complete. It was time to see, what these people could really do.

First, out was sent few units of Wardens. They passed by, locating slowly enemy frontal guards. With each guard who was at least bit careless, a silent knife in the neck, garrote around throat or simple neck-breaking was initiated. With this, enemy frontal scout guards were eliminated.

Path was open, it seemed. With a silent breath, ruler voiced out his commands.
"Sent forth Daughter and her Raiders. Backup units in locations. Corsairs out in 30. Begin the operation Scalebreak!"

Suddenly, the bushes and trees nearby the Steam scale settlement came alive, as dozens of Raiders and Sky raiders burst out, laying waste to anything in front of them. With the initial moment of assault, Illusionists casted their spells, basicly doubling the number of attackers in the area. raiders attacked fast, and reaching the initial campsite in a flash, began a sudden left-flank circling move, as while the Sky raiders lifted to the sky and laid waste to the frontal ranks of camp. At the same time silent bullets flew out of the woods, slaying anything that seemed to be initial threat to the front assault unit. Warden elites knew their jobs.

With the moment of Raiders turning to the flank, eight Corsair ships flew out of the web made by the illusionists. Decks fully loaded, they opened their fire toward the camp, not giving a moment of rest to enemy, flying straight forward behind the Sky raiders.

-----

Summary:
-Preparation battle, 20 Wardens silence the frontal guards on small sector (I'd say 4-8 basic soldiers dead?)
-Initial assault made by 30 Raiders and 10 Sky raiders (1800 and 750 points). Sudden rush to the front line, basic Raiders turn to the left flank and continue assault there while Sky raiders are flying over and dropping bombs and similar stuff. Enemy appears to be doubled, as Illusionists casted their spells (so Steamscale sees 60 and 20 units coming out of nowhere).
-Daughter of Sun is leading the Raiders on left flank, slicing any enemy on the way. (1500 points thanks to daytime)
-10 Warden snipers (750 points) are taking out any possible larger threats, like enemy officers trying to organize things.
-8 Corsairs (2400 points) with full loads of 15 Wild dwellers each (150 points per ship, total 1000 points) are coming right after the Raiders, heading straight to the camp.
-Targets are mostly infantry, no heavier units are attacked at this point.

Total assault force of initial assault: 8200 points (plus extra 2550 points as "throwaway" units, the illusions) coming with nearly complete surprise.

((Heh, yeah, sorry... Just felt we needed ANOTHER large battle, and I wanted some blood too!))

-Deep in the Western Woods-

There is an otherworldly screech as reality is rent asunder. Beyond the tear in the fabric of space, a shimmering image can be seen of a shining city or dreams and nightmares. Like a swarm of locusts, thousands of Scryb burst forth into this world. They flit about like hummingbirds, inspecting everything, fascinated by every new sensation.

Behind them come a host of goat-folk, caterwauling and wassailing, draining great jugs of liquor. Next come all manner of strange and fantastical creatures, each more regal and fearsome than the last until, a trio steps through the portal. The first is a mighty humanoid, standing tall and proud. The second is a demure looking woman in tattered finery. The last is a man of regal air, tall and fair haired.

"So . . . this is where it leads . . . we shall have our pleasures satiated, I am sure."

As he spoke, the hole in reality repaired itself and closed.

"Hmm, looks like we're alone. Oh well, more fun for us, eh?"

He turned to his compatriots.

"Katinka, Harold, send out emissaries to the mortals. I want to know about them, and I certainly want to know about us."

"Yes, my lord." They both murmur, both looked less than pleased at taking orders from The Duke.

Soon scouts were dispatched to find the mortals and emissaries were sent to treat with them.

Each faction aside from the Dark and Dreaming have a single Sidhe heading towards them, along with a Sluagh scribe, and a Troll bodyguard.

The Source was growing "full." Molten magma flowed through the air in a dance, slowly molding into shapes and forms, creating new "life."

Soon five Sentinels (750 pts), eight Watchers (200 pts), three Orbs (45 pts), and a lone Flame Spider (5 pts) dropped lightly to the ground.

Meanwhile the Source sent orders to the scouting Lava Beasts and told them to return to the main group. This realm was clearly dangerous and all units might be needed before long...

Army:
Flame Spiders: 55
Fire-Born: 28
Orbs: 3
Watchers: 80
Soot Wraith: 17
Lava Beasts: 9 (plus 7 who were out scouting and are now returning)
Sentinels: 10
Golems: 6
Dragons: 4
The Old One: On the Source
The Hydra: Still on the mend
The Source: Mining and slowly healing

((Note that the Guardians are still within the leading edge of Dark and Dreaming's mist. Also, I'm holding off on grfu's approaching envoy until I read the entry on that army.))

The Sixth Army began to disperse. True, they hadn't been attacked, but that didn't mean anything. Groups of ten Hoplites formed squares in the underbrush with a Gastraphe or two centered within. The Dromes hid, disappearing from view. The Mouls and Tauros prowlers took cover as best they could. The single Patakos walker despaired of survival should there be an attack as it tried (and failed) to hide in the bushes. The Celihdes took positions around small clearings, ready to leap out and blast into the sky if necessary. Knotolis and Koraki returned to their machines and readied themselves. Overall, the Army suspected an ambush.

INCOMING!!

that was the thing the sniper said before a bullet knocked him from his perch, sending him falling though the air like a rag doll. The alarm was sounded but before the troops could marshal up humans poured in from the gate and the skys. men fell left and right, choas reigned.

Until Drakelius stepped out from the main building in full battle gear.

"WHO DO YOU THINK WE ARE! WE ARE THE STEAMSCALE! OURS IS THE FLAME THAT WILL WARM THE HEAVENS!!!!!!"

The men rallied as Drakelius let loose a roar, sending out a wave of intense heat for miles, seemingly setting the world around him ablaze.

The Masters of Breath, feeding on the engery surging from their leader, breath a sickly green cloud of gas that coveres the entire base.
-------------------------------------------------------

Reginald and Hermonie fall back with the Sixth Army generals, preparing for battle.

Hermonie winces as a series of barks blares though her helmet's raido.

"These bloody things must be the source of all that raido interferance i've been getting. mabey i can communicate with them."

Hermonie sent them a messsage in the old touge of the dranican, hoping they would understand.

"Draconians n Huumans fwends. U want fwend be, then gtfo gunship and give me a hug."

-Reginald(2000pt) used Blue Fire pulse, setting everything attacking the Steamscale on fire and ending the illusion spell.
-10 MoBs(1000pt) used Breath of Poison, coving the base in a cloud toxic to all non-Steamscale units.
-Reginald's Morale boost is in effect and the rest of the troops re begining to orgainize a counter attack.

-Hermonie has sent a message to the Dog Ships closing on her and the Sixth Army

-the soilders and Tanks are moving closer to the center of the dreaming dark.

(( Apologies for the delay! ))

The mists grow ever closer, ever darker, a herald of unnatural tempests. As thousands of the tribal slaves of the One flock to it, desperate for safety, and disappear into the darkness.

The twilight is strangely warm, soothing seared flesh and ravaged limbs. Inviting-- enough that most of the One's former servants hardly notice their path swirling and disappearing behind them. Ahead of them looms a structure out of the darkness, a tall construction apparently of wood and stone, warm light emanating from a hundred open windows, all guiding the eye to a wide, open doorway in the centre of the building. It promises safety.

Not far behind them, the mists are stirred by the arrival of machines of the Steam Scale, with infantry and scouts accompanying them. While the helpless tribesmen are not a threat-- indeed, the Dreamer finds perhaps kindred spirits in their hopeless, dejected selves-- these unnatural constructions drive the fog into convulsions, sweeping tendrils interceding themselves between the tanks and troops, doing little more than to mislead, obscure, and lead the Draconians' forces astray. Meanwhile, far above, the sounds of chains rattling signals the appearance of strange iron cages dangling from the sky, dimly visible to the Steam Scale ground forces below. Something about them-- perhaps the way they sway toward passing troops-- seems very unnerving.

((In the interests of moving things along...))

Suddenly:

KRA-KOOOOOM.

"HOLD YOUR FIRE!" shouted Koraki into the radio.

Too late. A Gastraphe's operator had shifted in his seat and accidentally fired his weapon. The 5.56X900 mm compressed Unspeakable Armor round flew at something resembling Mach 7, slammed into and through a dog Drohne, then embedded itself in the outer armor of a dropship.

Oh fuck.
