Varash D'Veldrin Chpt 2: Scarred Shadows

Many found themselves startled as they heard several mighty roars off in the distance, announcing the arrival of the Val D'arons at long last. Dressed in bronze and red armor, the D'aron clan's Pride Knights rode atop mighty cave lion mounts, a strong, tightly knit formation of lightly armored lionesses surrounding the few maned male lions within, ridden by the Vals of the clan themselves. Illharess Baelin Val D'aron was dressed in full armor like her warriors and her lion, the largest in the progression, had a red dyed mane that made it look as though its head were surrounded by fire, to either side rode her sister, General Baldra Val D'aron, and her brother, Seneschal Hurz'erin Val D'aron.

"Disgraceful, you'd think the circus had come to town rather than hostile enemy forces plunging the kingdom into chaos and seizing power for themselves, how can they belittle this disaster and everyone who's died by celebrating it?" bellowed Baldra, her voice amongst drowning out those of the lions.

"Easy sister, losing your temper and condemning our enemies aloud won't change whats happened, we need to be cautious if we wish to turn this terrible turn of events around and remove these usurpers" Hurz'erin advised, the smaller male used to easing the anger of his much larger elder sister.

"But not TOO cautious" Baelin replied, her eyes looking only forward as they progressed down the street, anger toward the traitors who brought war to her city filling her heart, as well as sorrow for failing her mother.

"Yes Majesty" replied both siblings, referring to her by royal title rather than simply by name or as sister while in public, though in reality Baelin liked it best when they were alone and they didn't need to be so formal, like when they were kids.

How could things have gone so wrong? First her mother, the hero of this land, was murdered, and then the very woman who owed her Valhood to her betrays her and wages war on the kingdom, killing many in her pursuit for power...To what end? What was her endgame? And why did Melandra now claim herself to be Empress in place of Mal'breena?

"I've always hated mysteries" Baelin whispered to herself bitterly, but allowed herself a small smile upon catching sight of Cal'atar, one of her dearest friends, and so much more.

He was smiling back, something he rarely did since his father's murder, and she always found it to be a wondrous sight to behold, a shame he didn't do it more often.

"LONG LIVE QUEEN BAELIN!" cheered one of the bystanders, shocking Baelin out of her inner thoughts, many more people in the crowd doing the same.

"See Baldra, not all of the people have turned their backs on us, for them, we must be strong, and patient" Baelin said, her brother adding "But not too patient?" provoking a much needed chuckle from his big sister and queen.

Once she stepped into the guest room, the masked half-breed female spun around to continue the talk with her dear outfitters; only to find them lagging behind. The masked acrobat crossed her arms before her, her eyebrows furrowing from behind her mask. Neith and Satis exchanged glances from beneath their gilded masks, shaking their heads at Philomela.

“I am -not- taking offence. I am just…miffed.” Retorted the mirror-masked female.

The older two sighed and took their seats at a nearby couch. Their mother entrusted them to take care of their siblings when not around her, but they did not have to deal with the foolish pride that some of their sisters harboured. Though if they still had the ability to talk they likely would have scolded the young nuisance.

Rolling away from the guest room entrance, Philomela nested herself between her guardian sisters, her sketchbook nestled in her lap.
_ _ _

“Long live queen Baelin!” joined in the male with the small crowd. Did he mean it? Who knew? Or rather, who cared if he did? Hell, most had never heard of him. Most -saintly- nobles that is. The commoners on the other hand…they knew him well.

The Melandra supporters were beginning to get restless around the Baelin supporters., and a number of city guards stepped in to stop the two factions from starting anything. Time to scram. Slipping past the guards, the drowussu male weaved his way through the brimming crowd till he found what he was looking for.

The drowolath female flinched at the hand now at her shoulder, the neon coloured hair of hers gave a flourish as she twisted around to snap at the nuisance. “Oi! Wott do ya --oh, Von, ya startled --”

“Zip. Please.” He shushed her with a tap on her chin and an edacious smile. The woman had the clear ragged look of the lowest commoner caste, the pale male on the other hand, though his clothing were clearly worn, had a rakish though noble air about him.

The male adjusted his coat as if to make sure everything was in place, and placed an arm about the drowolath female’s shoulders. “Sure to be an interesting day don’t you think, pixie?”

Primus’s was glad that Nasrin hadn’t walked off but appeared to be waiting upon him, her brother stood off to her side but the expression on his face was anything but welcoming. He seemed to be uneasy, almost fretful about something. Primus stopped directly in front of Nasrin and once again took in the beautiful features that he knew almost as well as his own. Primus considered her to be breathtakingly beautiful. Her shape was slender with perfect curves in all the right places, her white hair draped around her in elegant braids; the tips were dyed red. She was bedecked in clothes so extravagant that it was almost ridiculous, as befitted a noble of her wealthy clan. Primus locked her eyes with his own and bowed dashingly before speaking.

“Lady Nasrin Val'Shurri'rivvaki,” Primus didn’t even glance at her brother nor addressed him but kept his gaze focused on the beautiful drow before him. “You’re beauty is like a flower, it grows with every passing moon. No doubt Shurri herself envy your splendor.”

…..The thing with that is that even though we can access their mountain lair because of the Jath’Orrl, odds are that we will still be defeated! They can crush us by sheer force of numbers. Maybe a guerilla strike force to assassinate the illharess, according to information she has not yet declared a heir, so that would throw the clan into chaos. It might even break apart. But if the attack were to fail, the destruction of the Kel’thak would be certain, if only____
Kaelyn’s trance was broken when someone called her name, she turned to face the person and her face broke out into genuine smile, she was surprised when for one of the few times she didn’t have to force it.

“dearest Kimia,” Kaelyn said with a nod of head. “Forgive me for not waiting upon you outside. I saw that you had important discussion to attend to with your allies. Nothing is amiss I hope. Just but the say word and what service I can give will be given.”
She rose from her seat with a tiny grunt; it was then that she spotted Arvenah. “I forgot to tell you. Meshekal sends her greetings to you,” Kaelyn said with another of her rare smiles.
“She invites you to the usual meeting spot, wherever that is, at the conclusion of the meeting. She says something about a surprise or whatnot.” Kaelyn knew that despite the vast age difference the two girl were fast friends, well Meshekal considered Arvenah to be her friend and they did meet as often as their duties permitted. He didn’t know if the feeling was mutual.

"Mal'breena has always been the crafty one, and poor Mama a mere puppet for that Vel'akar's hands. I fear it is not reason we should expect but mere consolidation of power, Mama will have to assert her role as our...'High Queen' in order to foil Mal'breena's plans if she has any intention of doing so."

Xia'sol added in another whisper, fetching a goblet of wine as the servant girl timidly moved past. She brought it to her lips as if she were hiding the treasonous words that poured from her mouth. Setting the glass down in front of her, she threw a sideways glance at the seats around them and then trained her eyes upon the arriving Illhars. Chilessa moved to reply to Maahev as her mother looked pensively on the congregation, her delicate features half obscured by a opaque veil as she trained the direction of her voice towards him while her body and face faced the throne,

"Such large armies and military forces brought for an occasion meant to consolidate power and promote peace. It is needless to say there is something very disconcerting about the amount of blades present here rather than the gifts of peace that should be given."

There had been a soft murmur in the room as the leaders filtered in, and Xia'sol observed with ostentatious scrutiny, her eyebrows raising slightly as the human warriors, a military faction for the De'vet, made their way into the Higher Circle and behind Assa'rai. It was a...'new' sight at the least, and Xia'sol made sure not to have her gaze linger too long on this oddity. Xia'sol could already imagine Suuleta'jaba, her mother, shifting in her seat at the presence of males within the room and humans. Chilessa stole a gaze at Maahev and then resumed looking straightforward like her mother. As the other Illharesses made their entrances, Xia'sol greeted them from her perch in turn, dipping her head to acknowledge Lou'hi.

Chilessa leaned sideways to murmur to her mother under her veil,
"Look at the Mother Scorpion below, her face speaks of schemes and ambition..."

Xia'sol finished the sentence as she brought the edge of her glass to her barely moving lips,
"And we all know how dangerous ambition can be."

---
Suuleta'jaba looked on the meeting from the lounge in a mixture of boredom and slight interest; all the clans gathering, some new, some old to discuss the same matters all over again. At her age, it really didn't matter anymore, did it? And to think having male advisers and human guards present at the meeting of the clan leaders, oh how traditions and protocols were so easily swept away. Rox'culu was also not interested in the events of the image golem, as his sights were set on the entrance of the Val'Querces females- his gaze lingering on Philomela as she squeezed herself between her sisters. Picking up four glasses of wine and balancing them expertly in his armored hands, he strolled over to the ladies and made a bow, all the while keeping the glasses poised perfectly.

"Lady Val'Querces, some refreshments perhaps?"

With a twitch of his finger and some assistance of air sorcery, three of glasses floated in front of the three ladies expectantly. Suuleta'jaba glanced up to see her youngest son saunter his way to the Val ladies before returning her gaze back to the Gathering. A couple of the minor clan escorts came into the room murmuring of the D'aron's arrival.

Kimia let her eyes flicker to Arvenah, who present a cordial and friendly face to Kaelyn. She allowed a small slight brighter smile to grace her face at the mention of Meshekal, "I'm glad to hear from her, thank you for passing her message to me. I'm interested in seeing this surprise. I hope you don't mind mother, if I meet up with you and my siblings later at the play."
Kimia waved her hand, in a small comically dismissive fashion, "I don't mind at all, dear one. Just remember that I will need you for that offer."
Arvaneh nodded once before Kimia continued, "As for leaving us with our allies, Kaelyn. You know full well that I enjoy talking with you, then discussing matters of policy and going over proposals with allies. Plus, I wanted to talk with you. You said you wished to speak with me, when we meet last at the small party for Afarin. Which sadly didn't give us much time. So now I'm all curious about need to chat with me."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nasrin wasn't able to speak, at first she was just shock at having him so close, but then he opened his mouth and her wits were shoots. At first she blinked several times and then flicked a glance at her brother. Adish was glower at the taller male and then turned his glower towards her, finally he gave they're mother's dismissive wave of the hand before turning and going up the stairs behind them. Nasrin didn't turned to watch him continue his way to the Viewing Room.
She opened her mouth and then closed it, licked her lips, straighten her back, and said, "I'm flattered by your words, Primus. Though, Shurri knows I'm far from a great beauty. Um...er...How have you been? I haven't seen since my new nieces celebration. I'm sure that a lot has happened."
Nasrin wanted to stab her tongue for blabbering so much, she mentally scolded herself. She should be able to handle this, this was no different from discussing matters of trade and clothes with Philomela.
Kaelyn couldn’t help but feel a flash of pride at the illharess’s words, though she hid that feeling under a charming smile. She also couldn’t help but cringe as she remembered the party that was mentioned, very bright colors, a lot of expensive liquor, much more food than was necessary, and public fornication basically summed it up. At the same party Kimia had actually convinced her, though Kaelyn still couldn’t remember how, to try a hookah pipe; she had to admit the fragrant smoke wasn’t too bad. But there was no time for sentimentality and touchy feely now. It was time for business.
“Illharess Kimia Val'Shurri'rivvaki,” Kaelyn said formally as she reached to clasp both of Kimia’s dark delicate hands in her own brown ones. “You have been my greatest supporter ever since my clan and I have arrived in Varash, you offered me aid and protection when I had no other claim upon you other than friendship.”
Kaelyn took a deep breath before continuing. “I am not ungrateful and these acts cannot go unmarked for any longer, with that in mine I would take this meeting to announce to all other clans that clan Kel’thak sees clan Val’Shurri’rivvaki as its alley and would assist them in any and every way.”
Kaelyn waited tensely for her friend’s answer, despite Kimia’s jovial almost carefree manner she was no fool. Far from it. The old Drow was as crafty as a fox. She knew that the older illharess could see the situation for what it really was, that in the long run an official alliance between the Kel’thak and the Val’Shurri’rivvaki would benefit the Kel’thak much more than it would the Val clan. With that in mind, Kimia had every precedent to refuse. Kaelyn kept her agitation in check as she silently waited for an answer.
Primus nodded his agreement, they hadn’t seen each other since that celebration. Something which Primus desperately regretted but knew had been inevitable, both their stations had gotten much more demanding after that. She had to deal with managing the education of the numerous youngling of her clan, while he had journeyed to the surface to assist Eari Hammercrusher; only returning a couple days ago upon special order from his mother.
“It has been some time since you have last graced me with your esteemed presence,” Primus admitted.
“But I have been fine. Well as fine as one who marches the warpath can be.” Primus chuckled. “And yourself? I trust that your schools are running smoothly?”
Primus glanced back over his shoulder and noticed that Kimia and Arvenah had arrived and were in conversation with his mother.
“Ummm, may I interest the lady in a walk?” Primus added nodding towards the exit.
From the moment Kaelyn started speaking, Arvenah knew that her mother was going to make a mess of everything. There was so much riding during this meeting, if by some chance the Kel’thak clan, had run a foul of another clan. Though she also knew that mother had grown rather fond of Kaelyn and this would aid her friend, while appearing the minor clans as a truly loyal ally. Arvenah glance at her mother, who stood looking over Illhar Kaelyn and considered the look. Finally she turned her gaze away deciding that her mother was fine.
"My dearest friend, as much as this announcement would please me to no end. You might not be able to make it now," Kimia's face and voice was filled with the same concentration and focus she had when managing the sub-house leaders. "This meeting will be a test of boundaries and as well as foresight into who will be throwing they're might around the city. Not only that, but if the outside greetings were a sign of how the inside meeting will be, then there will divides. We will need to tread along them careful, it we were to simply announce our somewhat official alliance it could cause some strife for both of us later...That being said...". Kimia handed her parasol to Arveneh before placing her hands over Kaelyn, she looked up into Kaelyn face saying "That being said, if there is a chance to confirm our allies among the clans, then I give you permission to go ahead and announce it. I would love to have it known that we have formed such a strong alliance."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nasrin nearly bit her lip. Instead she stole a glance around and noted that there were many minor clans leaders, rich merchants, and officials who were also milling around so she gave an inward shrug and said, "I would love to take a walk," She smiled at him as they started off among the murmuring people. "As for my schools, we're doing quite well. There have been new additions as well as talk of need to expand it outside of our clan, so that we can spread some of knowledge to the common people. However that will take quite a bit of fast talking. We've begun preparations for our first official traders posts on both the surface and on a very interest path that we have discovered in the Underground. It kinda like a fork in the road, though we're going to need to do even more fast talking to calm the nerves of the other clans. I've been preparing our ambassadors to have to confront problems with... Nasrin trailed off, she knew that Primus wasn't much for the politic field, just like she would be no help to him on the warpath as he called it. It made her nearly want to curse Shurri for crafting a fine male, who had little interest in politic. Though at the same time, she was aware that if he was politically conscious he wouldn't have asked her to walk with him, which would have been rather upsetting for both her and her mother, since Kimia had made it clear that any sign of they're alliance would be better than any amount of spoken words.

“The title of /ruling clan/ will be no more once this meeting is through.” Incubo’mora responded with a contemplative whisper.

“They will want us to gloss over their use of summoning. After all, it is not a fond topic among the rest of us, and it is -our- approval that they need to secure their seat.“ She paused, shifting in her seat to put one leg over the other as she observed the lesser circle. “But I don’t believe they will resort to taking hostages this meeting as the D‘aron did.”

The Querces Illharess furrowed her brows at the arrival of the halmes. It was not that she believed them lesser animals, but this balcony was made for the leaders of the great clans and their advisers, the area was out of bounds to guards or forces. Lifting a hand, she caught the attention of a serving girl, a few words and the girl was off to correct the mistake.

“One would think we were having a public arms race, not a meeting to secure peace.” She tapped her pale fingers, devoid of any ornaments, upon the table. Many thoughts flooded her mind, one easing into the next, and so on.

So the new arrivals have caught her attention.

“My ears in the city tell me they are hubris personified. But, dear Kimia has taken a liking to them. What do you think of this, Xia'sol?”
_ _ _

Maahev remained silent through out their exchange, his own mind was preoccupied as well. Mentally mapping the meeting building, and the forces inside and out, he went over the different tactics to be taken were the D’aron, or M’elzar to try anything again. He even recalled a plan they created should the now royal Mortath attempt to harm any within the hall. The devices of his mind were broken when Lou’hi entered their presence, and he stood up out of habit. Finding himself at a loss of words, he merely smiled and took his seat.

_ _ _

The twins shook their head at their sisters intrusion, and if one were to listen a clear sigh could be heard from behind their masks.

Philomela was the first to notice the male approach, or rather, the first to visibly show it, and all three bowed their heads in welcome. Pushing her sketchbook to the side, she accepted a glass with a sure grip. The twins were silent at first, but each pushed back the sleeves of their robes to show thin pale fingers, and gingerly took a glass.

“Thank you.” Philomela tilted her head to the side with an amused smile, though a masked one.

The twins opened their mouths to thank the male, but both stopped. They had been foolish and forgot their lost voices. Their vocal cords left in disrepair with their leaving of the M‘elzar, even their surgeon mother had her hands bound when it came to fixing them. Not wanting to seem ungrateful the two thanked him in their own way.

Removing their gilded masks, the two sisters gave the Euol’beldroina noble a sincere smile. The two rarely, if ever, took their masks off, even within the Querces fortress; they could not help but feel a bit naked without them, as was evident by the blush on their cheeks. All in all, the two had been hiding beautiful faces. Their pale features were delicate and sincere, but it was their eyes that would bewitch a viewer. Orbs of a forest green, and highly expressive. It was with these that they spoke their ‘thanks’.

Kaelyn smiled and nodded her head in respect to the older illharess’s words. Inside she was alight with joy, the offer had been accepted even though the time had been postponed. The Kel’thak had just won a strong ally in a high place, and Kaelyn had just cemented her relationship with an even more loyal friend.
“I understand my friend, I look forward to that day.” Kaelyn said.
Then she cocked her head to the side as the noise and excitement of the place kicked up a couple notch. Kaelyn’s customary frown returned.
“Unless I am very much mistaking this show is about to get started.” She commented dryly. “Anything else that I should know that you might have forgot to mention last week?” Kaelyn asked, her eyes raking towards the door from where the roar of a mighty beast sounded. If she wasn’t mistaking, it was the great guttural voice of a lion. She hadn’t seen a lion in four centuries.

“Excellent,” Primus said with a nod as they began walking towards the exit. “Let’s go see what all the hullabaloo outside is about.”
Indeed the noise had picked up considerably. Primus felt an edge of nervousness, he knew that what he was doing was folly. His mother already knew and the lady Kimia would find out eventually, she might take the fact that he was trying to court her daughter in secret as an insult. But Primus didn’t care, he refused to let their parents warp their relationship into something political. It was the first time Primus was doing something for himself first and not for his clan, he wanted the lady Nasrin Val'Shurri'rivvaki.
Not because of how a union with her might strengthen the Kel’thak but because of the passionate almost maniac gleam in her eye when she preached of the history of her clan, the way her hair always smelled of overland flowers, the way she looked when she rocked back and forth in the midst of one of her clan’s seductive dances……
“Yeah, that’s nice to hear.” Primus replied to Nasrin. “But do you think it wise to educate commoners? It seems to me as a wasted effort and a lost cause.” As they walked Primus’s heard a guttural roar. Instinctively he placed a hand on his pommel.

"My apologies, Illharess," spoke a Tu'joltrezen female with mid-back length hair with the ends dyed blue. Similar to Lou'hi, she wore barbaric attire composed of high-strapped sandals and a light colored dress with bearskin cloak and chitin girdle, complete with a curved blade placed within the girdle. Lou'hi turned her head to greet her lead adviser Aja'tti. "I was distracted by a conversation with a few merchants as we came in. Thankfully, I haven't…"

A loud roar coming from the entrance of the grand hall suddenly cut Aja'tti off. "The D'aron have no doubt arrived," said Ill'ja, looking out beyond the door to see the entrance of the D'aron delegation. "I wonder if Baelin, or anybody else, will try to attempt anything this time..." Lou'hi had been clear for a contingency plan in case of a repeat of the last meeting's events.

Lou'hi smiled at Maahev's odd display. The drowussu was handsome but he wasn't the most talkative or open individual around. She'd have to touch base with him after the meeting was concluded; it was one of the reasons that she had brought their daughter to the meeting, wasn't it?

The Tu'joltrezen Illharess' ears raised at the mention of the new plans for the empress by Incubo'mora. "Hm, I pray that your plan will be accepted by the Mortath clan," spoke Lou'hi dispassionately, eyeing the halme arrivals. Goblins in the meeting hall…she'd never understand why Assa'rai needed to bring her pets in with her. All the while, Luo'natar was sitting by her mother, impatiently doodling in a notebook of hers.

"Yes, the amount of arms being displayed bodes ill for these proceedings," Lou'hi replied to Xia'sol's observation. "And a power struggle within the Mortath does seem rather likely..."

"And now, my Illharess, I shall head out to the common area to await your further command. May Perkunna smile upon you today," spoke Ill'ja as she bowed and exited the meeting room. Looking around, she took stock in her immediate surroundings as she was wont to do. Nasrin and Primus were in the midst of speaking, and Rox'culu was offering wine to Philomela and Incubo'mora's daughters. With a shake of her hair, Ill'ja sat down a respectful distance away and hummed a song to herself as she sat and waited.

Xia’sol’s eyebrows arched at Mora’s insinuation, Chilessa drew her eyes away from the settling Illhars and turned slightly to look at their neighbors. Xia’sol’s eyes took a little longer to leave the empty throne before she tilted her head to the side and faced Mora.

"No ruling clan? Mama is powerful and aged, but she is not that powerful to keep her own clan independent of her decisions and manage Varash. Personally I believed that the nether texts should have burned long ago at the end of the Moons Age and the knowledge of that dreaded perversion of summoning forever extinct… "

Xia’sol drained her goblet of its wine, smacking her lips appreciatively , the jewels adorning her body tinkling appreciatively. Peering around the chamber again, she took in some of the fidgety Illhars, glancing around at the sanctums guards, fearing a repeat of the last council meeting. Replying to Incubo’mora and Lou’hi , Xia’sol silkily spoke,

"Our approval would actually be a good bargaining chip if we were ever to be taken hostages again. So the sheer amount of guards would make sense, a bit paranoid but far-sighted nonetheless. "

In a joking manner, Xia’sol said in a conspirator’s tone,
"And then it would make sense for Assa’rai to bring her halmes, for if the M’ortath were to open their nether gates, her halmes would see to it that she would leave safely while we were have to fight tooth and claw for the exits."

Chilessa chuckled as her mother lightly laughed, drawing the eyes of the lower circle upwards to the humor happening above. As Xia’sol wiped the stray cheery tears from the corners of her eyes, she replied to Mora,

"Kimia takes a liking to many things, bless her soul. Their Illhar is a proud woman, and many say her brood is just as crafty as any other. I will not say that I necessarily approve of them, but they do possess a danger to our assets so its best we keep a careful eye on them"

Chilessa’s ears also twitched at the mighty roar of lions, jokingly adding,

"Indeed, Illharess Lou’hi, hopefully the quantity of their mounts does not reflect the noise otherwise I fear we may be surrounded.
---
Rox’culu dipped his head as the glasses met the hands of the Querces’s ladies, he was indeed a very charming noble, brilliant white teeth, dark brown skin, and gleaming golden hair reflecting his highly polished armor. All three were rumored to be beauties among the most beautiful of grey skins, and he was not disappointed at the least as two of the masks came off. He responded in kind, his deep honey eyes meeting the forest green orbs in turn.

"No, it is my thanks to you for accepting my presence and gracing myself with your beauty”

He looked on into Philomela’s mirrored mask, with humor coloring his voice he spoke once again,

[color=]"Though it would do me the extreme honor to see beyond my own reflection and to the face that houses such lovely eyes.”

Meanwhile, Suuleta’jaba rose from her seat and strode over to the windows at the far end of the room, looking out of them to see the proud and mighty mounts of the D’arons heading their way into the courtyard and through the entrance. The usurpers of Dhaun’breena now usurped by the remnants of a clan that once shared her blood, ah the irony…these patterns had come to play well in this dark elf’s mind.

“That was not my point.” Mora tapped her chin in thought before she explained. “You see, others are not fond of the Mortath after this war. It is in her best interest, if she wants to secure her throne, to separate herself from them in the public eye. With that the eyes are drawn away from the Mortath, and onto her. Thus she washes her hands of the war and its crimes.”

The older Illharess finally let a small smile slip by. “But we shall see how it all plays out.”

Chuckling along with Xia’sol, she patted her ally’s shoulder with a pale hand. “I will keep -two- eyes on them, as often as I can spare them.”
_ _ _

Philomela giggled, tapping her fingers along her mirror-mask. “Only if you’ll do me the honour of coming to one of my plays.”

The mirror mask gave way with ease. Deep purple eyes were the first thing to come into view, mischievous but full of good humour. Her skin was of a deep ashen colour, much darker than the pale gray of her sisters, and unlike their dark hair hers carried a platinum hue. A sly smile finished off her look. Philomela was a beauty, but she lacked the sincerity her older twin sisters carried.

Before Kimia could speak, Arvenah announced, "I apologize for interrupting, but I wish to take my leave as it appears that I am not needed in this conversation." She bowed modestly before turning an eye to her mother.
Kimia gave a quick wave of her hand, "Of course...you can leave us."
With that Arvenah walked off and up the stairs to the higher floor as she got to the top, she could hear a far off roar...or was it a rumble. For a second she paused and then shook her head. She would find out what has caused the noise later. Someone always knew. Before sitting she grab a goblet of wine from a passing slave and took her given chair next to her mother seat. Arvenah settled and then placed her mother parasol next to her chair. Once done she nodded politely to the Illharess and they're advisers, "Greetings again."

Kimia let out a sigh and was about to speak when the roar cut her off. An reoccurring event, she realized before saying, "I will hold my words in till after message in till after this meeting. Though, it has to do with those Trading post I told you about. I want to attempt a new item to present when we have the post fully set up. For that I will need your help...I'll give you the full details later."
Kimia sighed and then realized with some annoyance that she no longer had her parasol. Sucking her teeth slightly she glared sadly at her empty right hand before turning back to Kaelyn, "Other then that, I simply wanted to know how you fared.I understand that these types of meeting are hardly your favorite places."

Nasrin was about to say that teaching commoners was important, especially if they were in the arts. However she was cut off by the roar, which turned her attention to the Main doorway, which they were heading towards. Many officials, rich merchants, and minor clan leaders were standing there deep in conversation peering at random to the door. "As if they expect some kind of danger to befall them..." she mumbled and then turned to Primus to find his hand on his pommel. She placed a hand on his, in an effort to calm his nerves, "Maybe it would be wise to see what has arrived... though it is very likely the Val'D'aron arriving at last...probably deciding at the last minute to come and grace us with they're radiant presence."
She tried to keep the sarcasm to saturating her words, though she feared her dislike for the Val'D'aron came through all the same. Once she hadn't minded them at all, in till after Procne had died in the crossfire between the Val'Mortath and the Val'D'aron. Despite her being tainted, she had been wise and rather kind, with a sharp tongue and sharper mind. The perfect daughter and Nasrin's role model and secret crush. Nasrin had reminded herself, that at truth no one was truly to blame, but knowledge and feels were often at odds according to her mother.
She let a small smile grace her face as she glanced towards Primus and thought that her mother had a strong point.

Kaelyn nodded politely as Arvenah took her leave. Given time the girl could make quite as good an illharess as her mother, Kaelyn reflected. Pity Primus doesn’t have more ambition in his choice of mates. It slightly annoyed Kaelyn that pound for pound Arvenah would probably make a better leader than her own daughter, Meshekal was still too flighty and adventurous for Kaelyn’s liking. She tried to console herself by saying it was just a byproduct of youth and was something the girl would grow out of, but maybe she had erred by giving her children so much freedom. Kaelyn nodded once more as Kimia told her of her plans.

“I eagerly await the hour.” Kaelyn said with a smile. She was interested to see what new piece the elder illharess had come up with, that was one thing she couldn’t deny about working with the Val' Shurri'rivvaki, it was always interesting. “As for me,” Kaelyn added with a shrug in reply to Kimia’s question. “I’ll be fine. I’m still sold that a boarding room is no room for a Kel’thak, but I will endure this torment specially for you.” She finished jokingly. “Now come,” Kaelyn gestured a hand towards the refreshment section where servants were still scurrying around frantically, making sure everything was perfect. “I’ve got a taste for unbelievably expensive wine.”

-----------------------------------------------------……………………..-------------------------------------------
Primus relaxed his grip as he felt Nasrin’s slim and cool fingers touching the hand clenched on his sword pommel, he took a deep breath and as a result of the contact her scent seem stronger than ever. He could almost taste her, oh how he yearned to taste her. To grab her hand and draw her close and smoother her with his passion. For a second his other hand tensed as he seriously contemplated doing just that, but with a colossal force of will he managed to stop himself. The thought that he could disgrace himself in his mother’s eyes, possibly damage the tight relationship between their clans beyond repair, shame Nasrin, and turn her mother and sister against him to booth all with one action was quite humbling. Its amazing the amount of power you hold over your future, Primus mused.

“Of course,” Primus said with a nod as he removed his hand from his pommel and regretfully disengaged from her touch. He observed the nobles and other illhars disinterestedly, it looked like they were all tenser than a female dragon giving birth. “Why are they all so afraid?” Primus asked distastefully, such open display of fear should be punishable by death in his eyes. “Are they that chickenhearted or were the Val'D'aron that much of a threat?” He knew the answer but he also knew that Nasrin loved talking about history and was particularly passionate about that piece. Besides it couldn’t hurt to refresh his knowledge and there was no better person in Varash to go to for a crash course than a teacher. The thought made him smile.

Kimia giggled as she followed her friends towards the refreshment. "Well, I've had quite a bit of wine on the way here. So, I think I will refrain for now. I will need my wits for the upcoming problems...if the increase of noise is anything indicator of who has finally arrived."
She sighed as the arrived at the refreshment table and picked up a glass of water instead of wine, she glanced at Kaelyn, "I wonder what this meeting will bring with it. Let us hope it goes over quickly...Oh that reminds me, I would like you to join me and the Val'Querces, the Val'Tu'joltrezen, and the Val’Euol’beldroina Illharesses to a comedy that will be preformed at the the Querces Theater. Before you weigh me down with reasons you can't, you've been putting off meeting them. Which puts you in a bad spot since you can not form an alliance with people you have barely seen and have spoken even less to."
Kimia had been trying to get the Kel'tahk to interact with the other clans more, however she had manage to get out of it. This left gapes in they're relationship structure. Something Kimia was determined to fix, since it put her in a dangerous place being allied with a newcomer who was still a mystery to the larger clans.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~\/~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nasrin ticked the end of Primus's ear just like she did with her students, "You should know the importance of they're arrival. If they hadn't shown up, many would have attempted to flee the meeting assume that the D'aron would consider them traitors or simply would attack since they be traitors to losers. Most of the small clans here depend on themselves for protection and an economy, without much assistance from the Val clan's. It could bring on several small battles with them against the D'aron. This would make the city split into between those who will stand with the D'aron and those that will stand with the Val'Mortath. However, with they're arrival also brings on bigger problems. Now the whole city will see who truly has the most power among the clans. It our new Empress's buckles under the D'aron's influence and force...there is much bad blood there already. The Val'Mortath would love to sink they're teeth into the chunk of influence that the D'aron still hold."
She let out a strained sigh and though of what Procne had told her during they're time together. Her heart felt a pang of pain as she thought of her former lover and crush. However just as the chill of lose began to stole over her, she felt the warmth of Primus's arm through her own. Comforting her, she continued, "The whole situation now poses a big threat to those clan who also wish to have some influence. You can only stirr-up public sympathy and support if you hold enough influence and there are tons of areas that the D'aron hold under they're thumbs."
She tried to keep her dislike down as they stood close the opening to the clan meeting hall. Before them in the courtyard they could see the force that the Val'D'aron had brought. They're armored warriors and Val's worried Nasrin, however it was chilled by her dislike. The D'aron weren't very fond of the Shurri'rivvaki, which was one of many reasons why Nasrin wasn't fond of them, "Let us go back inside. I'm not sure a confrontation with they're members now would be wise for us, either of us. Though you might be fine, since you haven't formed any true alliance with anyone, but us."
