Starcraft: The Swarms Rebirth

Postby blackshade10 » Thu Apr 15, 2010 5:43 am

OK, since my last Starcraft thread died so horribly, I decided to attempt a NEW route for this one. It will follow the same template for characters as last time, but rather than the slow briefing and travel to destination and the general slow snail pace of the plot, we are starting with the excitement.

No, really, the RP will be starting in the middle of a massive battle.

Here is the template, please use it. ^^

Name:

Rank:

Gender:

Age: Reasonable please.

Class: Any except Protoss, Battlecruisers, Medivacs, and Dropships. Everything else is fair game, to my discretion.

Background:

Description:

Equipment: Feel free to get creative here.

Skills: A note, you can have skills as a pilot or the like, as in the future, your class will expand. Just about every skill you can imagine goes here, though you don't need to add anything that it's given to your class. Try to keep the number of skills reasonable please!

Text Color:

Summary:

______________________________________________________________

The RP starts on the space city, The Echoni. This giant piece of floating metal is a space-created metropolis, fit with it's own gravity, buildings, businesses, and the like. Sadly, 95% of it is now infested with the dreaded Swarm, the Zerg who seek to devour everything in their sight. The last bastion of Terran humanity is a small section of the station, completely fortified with choke points and walls to keep out the Zerg and protect what is left of the Echoni. All sorts of weaponry and key buildings have been moved and constructed here, though things are looking grim. Reinforcements were sent in to assist the tired defenders, but sadly the dropships carrying their reinforcements were assaulted by the Zerg. The crash landings resulted in most of the additional troops being killed or injured, though a notable amount of supplies managed to get through without being too severely damaged. Vehicles from old to the newest model are here at this military base, though many have become severely damaged. The ground assaults from the Zerg are stopped with some effort, becoming harder by the day, but the air attacks are what might seal these poor defenders doom. Their anti-air is suffering horribly, with little left to stop the Zergs onslaught.

This is either the end of a people, or the time for heroes to shine.

As a bonus, one person will be allowed the "Mechanic" skill. This will allow you extra abilities in the RP itself, to help fix broken vehicles, weapon emplacements, firearms, etc. I'm also allowing people to be pilots, such as Siege Tanks, Thors, Goliaths, Banshee's, etc. Take note that air units are difficult yet also vital with the lack of significant anti-air in the base.

You are allowed to be characters who are

1) Natives or residents of the station
or 2) Part of the surviving reinforcements

Any additional ideas must be passed by me with the full knowledge that I might refuse it. So come up with a convincing argument before PMing me.

Other than that, this is for fun, hope to hear from you all soon. ^^

Sorry to those of my previous thread, but hopefully this one won't die so horribly.

Would characters from the old one still count?

Yes, you can transfer them over. Take note that this is... I think a decade since the events of the last RP, so make your character older.

Oh, and I recently learned that all of humanity speaks English, so the multi-lingual bit was a mistake on my part. So if your character knew additional languages, scratch that from the skills list.

Also, as the mission that all characters were present for was effectively screwed over horribly, you have a personal choice to be an exclusion from the 1 and 2 options of characters, if you can find a good reason to be there. You could have reenlisted under the new Dominion of Man, or lived in hiding or what have you on the station. Your choice.

Correction: Eight years have passed.

Poll added for the hell of it, and to get a grasp on the general interest.

Not bad, though I should note that all members, unless they do not wish to, escaped the installation after they figured out that the entire mission was a fake in the first place. They weren't really expected to live, just to report what they saw. Everyone does manage to get out, to their players discretion, before the planet is nuked all to hell, destroying any life still on it.

Just a tid bit. ^^

Yes, but she doesn't know the others escaped thus I didn't mention it in her background.

Gotcha, but just pointing out that the escape was first priority, since the mission was FUBAR from the get go. So, scratch the make-shift post bit, since they, like her, would have beat it on the nearest ship they could salvage at the earliest opportunity.

*Bah bump*

At this rate it will only be Maria and I!

Come on folks! :A

For some added flavor: I will be making a map of the defenses today with any luck, just for some added awesomeness.

Also, is anyone opposed to using a D10 system? If so, we can choose to remain free-form.

Let's do this...

Name: Gene Snyder

Rank: Private

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Class: Terran Marine

Background: Gene Snyder was a hooligan and a delinquent, so his parents packed him off to the military to try and teach him some discipline. It didn't really work. He bounced around from branch to branch, unable to hold a posting for much longer than basic training and licensing for the required vehicles before some egregious offense to his superior officers saw him busted down entirely or booted into a different branch. He developed an unfortunate tendency to sneak out for unauthorized "practice runs" with an exceptional amount of military hardware, including but not limited to a Thor walker, a rival's Arclite seige tank, and the personal, souped-up Vulture jetbike that just so happened to be the pride and joy of one of his highest-ranking superiors. Unaccustomed to the handling changes caused by the modifications, Gene also managed to crash aforementioned Vulture. This offense saw him busted all the way back down to Private as punishment, and to get revenge his commanding officers sent him off to the first convenient hellhole they came across. Lucky for Gene, it just so happened to be Echoni Station...

During the insertion, Gene's dropship was shot down, crash-landing a few kilometers from Echoni's "safe zone" and killing almost all of the passengers. Thinking quickly, Gene hotwired a Hellion that had survived the crash mostly intact, loaded in the paltry handful of survivors, and managed to use the swift vehicle to tear away down through the station to reach the Safe Zone before the Zerg closed on his position. Naturally though, he's been stuck here ever since, his new superiors understandably loath to trust him with any sort of vehicle that could escape orbit...

Description: Gene is a moderately good looking but otherwise fairly nondescript man, cheerful of demeanor and solidly built with short brown hair, a twinkle in his gray eyes, and a near-permanent half-smirk stamped on his face. Gene has a tattoo of a stylized Zerg skull on his left arm, and a few scars from the decent amount of combat he's seen. He has very nimble fingers, to put it politely, nimble fingers that are equally good at such fine motor skills tasks as hotwiring vehicles, appropriating your personal belongings, or shuffling a deck of playing cards just so...

Equipment:
Terran Marine armor and gauss rifle
Pair of Reaper gauss-pistol sidearms (looted)
Large amount of ammo and magazines, looted from the fallen
Screwdriver, Digital Lock-buster, Deck of Cards
Combat Knife
Knick-knacks: Hydralisk spine that failed to completely pierce his armor, a piece of Zergling claw made into a knife, some mementos from home, a collection of keys with dubious origins...

Skills: Pilot- Snyder is a hot-shot driver and pilot, and on top of this has managed to joyride his way through most of the Terran motor pool. He therefore has the skills to pilot almost anything made by human hands. While he isn't a trained mechanic and hardly competent to affect any sort of lasting repair, he's learned enough from hotwiring and tinkering how to jury-rig and bodge together quick fixes and such.

Snyder also happens to have a highly developed sense of survival, significant manual dexterity/slight of hand, and a fairly decent aim. He knows how to fight well in close combat, although he is most decidedly a brawler rather than a martial artist. Somewhat light-fingered, Snyder is prone to "borrowing" things, although this can come in handy for those around him sometimes when it manifests as an astounding ability to scrounge up useful supplies and desired items from... somewhere.

Rogue's Luck: Snyder seems to manage to get himself into an extraordinary number of scrapes, but also seems to manage to claw his way back out of them somehow. Some would call this bad luck; Snyder sees how many times he's made it through instead, and calls it a life (maybe a little too) full of excitement.

Text Color: Light Gray

Summary: Gene is a Marine more by technicality than profession, although he certainly knows his way around a power suit and a gauss rifle. Even though he's a good fighter, as good as any Marine, he's more survivor and drifter than warrior; out to keep himself and his buddies whole through kicking in skulls and blowing stuff up if needs be, rather than striving to advance some set of ideals or fight the good fight against the Zerg. Gene really shines when he gets the chance to show off his skills as a pilot and driver; ready, willing, and able to clamber into the controls of anything he crosses paths with. He has his fair share of rough edges, but despite his checkered past, he's more of a thrill-seeker and a hooligan than a hardened criminal; and while his antics have caused headaches for his superiors in the past, it's been more than once that his buddies on the ground have had cause to be grateful for the abilities his criminal tendencies have developed into. Cheerful and friendly by nature, he's fairly easy to get along with, best described as a scoundrel with a heart of gold; sure, maybe he'll "borrow" stuff from time to time, but when things get rough you can count on Gene to pull you out of the fire. Of course, Gene tries for the "endearing rogue" impression as much as possible, since it's mostly his charm and cunning that's managed to keep him out of a resoc tank for so long.
