Genesis of the Infestation

The woman remained sheltered and relatively conservative; typically trusting Teal, and Ann enough not to consciously shield her thoughts - or, when they were chaotic enough she would do just that. A mind of timidity. Compassion. Rage.

But the complex nature of how it all happened was a dangerous thing to access, and so she was often times weary enough to protect those around her - when she was well enough of mind.

She nodded to Teal, not so much saying words as accepting what he had said. It was not her first time serving with him, the man was reliable, and alive. Being alive was important. She knew many people who were not, who were fallen, dropped, under the ground and otherwise untouched by her emotions.

She couldn't recall them all...

Blinking several times Nero calmly bowed out and made a slow pace back to her Squad; Ann spoke, and the gyros along her helmet helped it swivel as she turned to look. There was a brief flare of content, along with `concern` for those more aggressive emotions flowing from Candy; not entirely understanding that it was the woman's way.

- And I you... - But the voice was so distant, so whispered, so impossibly silent that only a trained Psychic might pick up on it. The warmth followed in her emotions once more.

Her lashes drooped down. "Will you protect us Candy?" She inquired suddenly - odd question? Perhaps, perhaps not.

Candy smirked as Dak chided Coy for having a problem with his drinking. Drinking was all fine and dandy - booze burned all sorts of lovely. Now if he was drinking, smoking, and texting at the same time while he was trying to drive, then she might have had an issue. She almost sent back some sort of smart ass reply to 'miss colours' - but strangely enough, she had no reason to take offence to it. She was colourful on purpose, both visually and audibly. Instead she turned her attention back to Coy,
"En just when 'zactly were ye' plannin on company when we're goin' planetside" She rolled her eyes. She huffed through her nostrils and turned back to her team - did someone purposefully make it boys vs girls? Hella fun times to be had then.

She wasn't one to apologize to Anne for the break in her attention. She uncrossed her arms and stuck them on either side of her waist, why is it was that the ghosts always seemed to find her interesting. Something about her words and thoughts being the same damn thing - or so she had been told once. Hmph.
"Long as ye' ain't stickin' stuff in there - we'll be fine."
She pulled off her coat and tossed it over her shoulder, about to head to her CMC when the sergeant approached and asked her rather odd question. Shifting her weight to one side, she felt the chip chirp silently to the back of her head. Ranking officer - smarten up and reply.
"Sure - whatever. Clear it out, burn anything in the way - I'm good at that. It's why dey send me on teh dangerous ones roit?"
She raised an eyebrow, her thoughts just as bold and echoing the same words she had just spoken as she pulled up the edges of her gloves. How did she know this was potentially dangerous? Because it was always when she was sent out somewhere. Effective and disposable Candy - where else would she fit save on the rough edges of the front line?
Now, if the lady didn't have any objections or further questions - she had CMC to jump into....

"Let's move." Teal cut in, giving his weapon a quick last check before striding across the hanger and to the waiting dropship. He gave the side of the machine a few smacks, before the ramp lowered. "Time's a wastin, and I rather not leave that place alone for to long. Get your gear and get on." He ordered, proceeding to enter the dropship himself.

His mind was distracted, bothered by what he heard on the communication from the facility shortly before it was lost.... Cries. Not human cries, but... something else. What the hell was going on?

"All right, sweethearts, you're a team and there's nothin' to worry about. We come here, and we gonna conquer, and we gonna kick some, is that understood? That's what we gonna do, sweethearts, we are going to go and get some. All right, people, on the ready line! barked Sgt. Harrison as he stood beside the open ramp of the dropship.

"Get on the ready line, Marines, get some today! Get on the ready line! Move it out! Move it out, goddammit! Get hot! One, two, three, four! Get out, get out, get out! Move it out, move it out, move it out! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven! Aaarrrrr, absolute badasses! Let's pack 'em in! Get in there!", roared Sgt. Harrison as the Marines filed into the dropship. Harrison had to admit that something just wasn't right with this op. If it was a mere communications failure, they wouldn't have sent a Force Recon unit, much less two Ghosts in order to repair it. Whatever...it wasn't his job to ask questions. All he needed to know was where the enemy was.

-14 MINUTES FROM REACHING PLANET SIDE- -DROPSHIP ALPHA 1-

"Well, ladies and gentlemen, know that we're properly organized and prepared, let's get to it. This mission is ranked at S-Class, and the reconnection with the installation is of the utmost importance. We are to land here..."
The Ghost said, using a laser pointer to point at a map displayed on a large flat-screen.

"This is a port usually used to deliever supplies to the Installation. We'll get in through the elevator at the com-station there. We'll have to fix the com system and report back to HQ once we arrive. After that, we'll give the entire place a sweep and find out what the hell happened." He said, clicking the pointer off, the screen turning off and pulling away.

"Any questions?"
He asked, frowning beneath his mask.

"No sir," muttered Sgt. Harrison as he scanned the faces of the others sitting in the dropship's passenger hold.

"Yeah - wot's for suppah t'nigh?"
Candy didn't quite cackle at her own 'witty' retort, but her wide smile and the clack of a small bubble in her gum being crushed on the other side of her mouth was offensive enough all on it's own. Arms and legs crossed, the woman leaned back as relaxed as though it were just another safety briefing. Too many missions - or not enough. This was standard, this was boring - when did they get to the good stuff?

The woman almost smiled, very nearly; but her tranquil, calm features remained evidently prominent in their expression of passive amusement, though perhaps, when no one was looking a tender half-moon curve swept along those soft, pale lips.

Why allude to anything greater with words, when your very presence seemed to denote some hidden identity.

That said she turned a gentle eye on her fiery comrade. Pun intended. "I have several protein injections which will keep you content for the time being."

Teal found himself shaking his head at the odd bunch. With luck, they would be just as fiery and strong in combat as they were in personality. And if thoughts and memories were anything to say, they were. And Teal was rarely wrong. They'd be arriving and landing on the roof of the building according to plan, and would reactivate the landing pad communications, then they would infiltrate the base, and set things straight. That was the plan, it'd work, and after all, Teal was rarely wrong.

This was one of those rare moments.

As Teal entered the cockpit, the pilot gave him a small greeting before glancing down at her systems. shee checked something. She double checked. She swore very loudly. Teal knew her thoughts before she spoke. He swore too.

"Shit! The defense systems of the base have targetted us!" She said, just as Teal leaped back into the bay.

"Hold on tight!" Teal managed to yell, just as an explosion rocked the ship violently, sending him flying through the air and ramming into the rear of the ship. They spiraled out of control for what felt like an eternity, before the ship slammed into the ground.

((The ship has landed, you may choose if you were injured or not. Teal is out cold and it's unknown if the pilot still lives. To those who check the cockpit, you will find that it has been ripped off of the bow of the ship, the pilot nowhere to be seen. You won't know where you are until you exit the ship. Teal can only be assisted by a medic.))

Ann remained in her usual vail of silence for much of the journey, not needing conversation when one was bombarded by so many thoughts. Looking up from the floor her glazed eyes traced over Nero, observing the woman's smile. It wasn't directed at her but at the woman with offensively bright hair. Nevertheless she smiled in return as if Nero were talking to her.

She had been absentmindedly tapping away at the gun she held, spinning her head around when she heard a voiceless shout. A shake. A bang. Her mind erupted in a headsplitting headache. Then dark.

Ann's eyes fluttered open after some time. Silence. Something warm ran down the side of her head. She blinked, picking up her weapon and raising herself off her feet.

Mmmm protein! Not really. Candy's top lip puckered to the side. On a high risk mission like this wasn't there suppose to be a last supper kind of deal going on? You know, with real food? What her expression didn't show, the roll of her thoughts would. -greeeeeaaaaat-
"Dibs on the bacon feeling one." She smirked. Ah Candy, finding more ways to put her life at risk everyday! That was life on the edge of the galaxy for you.

The colourful woman had been settling into her seat when the yelling started, and her reflexes sprung into action. She lived a long life for some one with as much experience with crashing and burning as she did. She dropped between the ribs of the ship - pinned herself there with her legs and pulled off her coat to wrap around her head before covering it with her arms. She smiled. Oh this was getting interesting. If she lived through this one she'd have to thank the blighters who did this with a big ball of fire. Possibly a bottle of ketchup. Why Ketchup? Unbeknownst to many - it was the most satisfying clock-someone-in-the-head weapon to date.

The crash itself knocked the woman silly for a moment or two - but not unconscious. Once the ship had settled and thins stopped falling apart, Candy uncurled slowly.
"Woo! Wot a welcom eh? Ha ha ha" Firebat-sh*t crazy.

Dakson had just fallen into a comfortable nap - not an easy feat harnessed as he was to the chair in his SCV, but many hours of practice during overly long security briefings and double shifts had made it not unbearable - when the ship rocked and spun wildly. Shaken immediately from his fragmented dreams, it took a moment for his mind to catch up and realise that the world spinning wasn't just a symptom of the copious quantities of alcohol he had consumed.

The tailspin was followed by a sudden stop where he was thrown hard against his harness, feeling it bite unceremoniously into his skin as the magnetic locks on the hulking SCV squealed in protest against the movement, but held the suit steady, preventing it from tumbling through the ship. He could taste bile in the back of his throat from, but no blood, that was always a good sign. A little bruising was far preferable to the shake up some of the others were getting, though the taste in his mouth left much to be desired.

Coughing he straitened his radio just in time to hear Miss Colours laughing and with a chuckle he answered: "What a landing! Like it a bit rough do ya?" He quickly checked all of his belongings to make sure they weren’t damaged, his fingers lingered over a hip flask before he opened it and took a swig, the foul tasting liquid would help settle his stomach and cover the sickening taste in his mouth, even if the alternative was not a great deal better.

Replacing the hip flask he clicked a few buttons on his control console, starting up the engine and bringing on the working lights to illuminate the wreckage as he tried unsuccessfully to disengage the locks holding him in place, first trying the remote overrides and then trying to move the suit itself, the latter only causing a squeal of metal on metal and a whine of servos without great result: "Stupid machines, you guys better be alright, 'cause i'm gonna need a hand with this."

Harrison snapped his head over in the direction of the cockpit as soon as he heard the pilot's oath. The control panel was lit up like a Christmas tree as Teal turned to address the rest of the team in the cargo bay. Harrison scarcely had time to tighten his restraints as the world spun and exploded.

A dull pain in his temples reminded Sgt. Harrison that he was indeed still alive. Swearing profusely, Harrison pushed up against the harness keeping him attached to the dropship's right bulkhead...or what was left of it, anyways. The static on the inside of his helmet dome cleared as a diagnostic of his armor's systems scrolled across it. No significant damage...that's good, thought Harrison as he grabbed his fortunately, still completely intact rifle. His CMC armor was a bit dinged up, but it would still work. "Sound off...everyone OK?" called out Harrison, as he switched on his helmet's thermal visor to search for warm bodies. Jesus...looks like that's it for the pilot, thought Harrison as he saw where the fore of the ship was.

As Harrison looked to the aft, he saw several of the team getting up. One figure, far to the rear, wasn't moving. The person in question wasn't wearing CMC armor, so it had to be Teal. "Hey...medic! The Major's been injured...let's go see what sort of shape he's in," said Harrison to Nero. "Someone get PFC Tanith's SCV free" he added before stepping over to Teal.
