A Price in Blood ((IC))

Salora took up a position next to Wilheim for the duration of their trip, she was not hesitant to speak any would exclaim occasionally about some exotic animal or passing creature which supposedly caught the young woman's immediate attention. Now and then if anyone expressed concern Kavala instantly stepped in to give them a firm, affectionate embrace, wide smile, and playful wink before withdrawing back to her position beside Wilheim.

Her eyes ghosted across the cavern entrance, deep, dark, damp. Those were the primary factors to consider when entering a cave - even ones bellow the surface, they were all relatively similar, and once you'd seen one you'd seen them all. A cave could be long and winding, or simple and singular, but a cave was a cave and more often than not more trouble than they're worth. Her head tilted to the side subtly, just bare shift of a chin which drifted against her chest while she looked up through lush blond lashes, discretely observing the other members of her party. The only person here she trusted was Wilheim, and had prepared herself to remain beside him the entire time.

Ezekiel watched as several members of the party descended and prepared to make their way into the 'cave': "Whoever wants to go first is welcome to, you Laerzian or perhaps you angel?" He shrugged, it didn't particularly matter to him, though if they angel got her wings clipped by a trap it would certainly make his day.

Kavala seemed to be hanging quite close to Willheim, which seemed odd for a summoner, as their kind was usually frowned upon, but perhaps it was just attraction, he rolled his eyes: "Maybe you would like to stay a little further back with me? You said you were a summoner, perhaps your abilities would be better kept away from the front line?" He held the crossbow he had retrieved earlier and smiled confidently

Kray nodded at the Laerzian mercenary, slightly surprised that the man seemed concerned: "I will be fine, just come back here when your done." He patted a meaty fist against his chest and then laid it on the hilt of a large sabre resting on the wagon beside him, though the image of the big man wielding the almost graceful weapon would strike many as odd. "There’s not usually much out this way, but I come prepared."

He twisted to look at the few people still reluctant to leave the safety of the wagon wagon and slapped the wood loudly: "Come on, get moving. I don't want to wait all day, just go kill the bugger." Or die trying he thought, certainly he wouldn't mind if some of the team didn't return, but the two girls were pleasant on the eyes and some of the team seemed decent enough.

Arkaid's neck gave a loud sickening crack as he twisted and rolled it in place, a somewhat disturbing grin on his face. He stood up, hopping off the cart and rounding the wagon, past the others. "No worries. I'll go first." He said with a fang-filled grin. He took several steps away from the group, stretching his muscles, tiny sparks and crackles emanating from his body as he stared into the entrance of the Ogre's lair.

Aethyr walked briskly in order to rejoin the group as they collected themselves at the cave entrance. He'd elected to walk behind the wagon for a good distance rather than be crammed tightly together with his associates. The sunlight hadn't been much of a nuisance to him. His eyes and skin were well covered, though there was always some risk of burning, just not as much as if he were full-blooded.

Once the party descended from the wagon, a light source was provided by Malphas. The Seeker volunteered to lead the party in. There would not be much more to be done, now, other than to take that first step. "One moment...Arkaid was it?" A minor piece of preparation could make a great difference in the confines of a large creature's underground lair.

The bladesinger chanted a series of monotone syllables. "Llysellete assa. Llysellete eyrrha. Assa. Minna. Llysellete."

This was his first performance for those assembled and it was not a song that he imagined many of them were used to hearing. "This is a very simple verse intended to muffle the sounds of our footsteps as we tread. So long as none of our party are unnecessarily loud, it should last for some distance." He glanced in Ala's direction, hoping she'd comply. To the electrically-charged being he nodded, "I will follow your lead."

Ezekiel nodded at Aethyr, testing his step by hopping lightly on the grass, even the soft noise of shifting ground was muffled, not that he was in the practice of making much noise when he didn't intend to: "Very well then lead the way." He waved towards the grey skin, and the cavern.

Immediately after the entrance the passage broadened, perhaps large enough to stand 4 a breast, 5 at a squeeze, the roughly hewn stone steps they descended were closely laid and in poor disrepair. Malphas' light spell gave an eerie glow against the darkness, highlighting the area around and directly in front of the cautiously moving party in stark detail the roughly hewn steps leading down and the growth or vines and creepers covering in the first 20 feet, becoming more sporadic, though from the ceiling clumps of roots descended as the plants and trees above sought sustenance from the damp cavern.

As they descended further the vines would die away, revealing faded red bands and weathered markings lining the walls, the trickle lines of water carving destructive lines across their surface one was observant enough they would perhaps notice dried blood merging into the red bands and markings on the wall, it would become more noticeable as they continued. Each step would cause small clouds of dust to rise from the ground adding to the cloying oily smoke rising from the torches below that were could be more clearly be seen even against the glow of Malphas' light, though distorted by the thick air.

They were perhaps at the midpoint of their descent and Ezekiel paused to glance back up the passage, the opening seemed far above them, a small opening separated from them by a sea of black. Ezekiel shrugged, it was not particularly unnerving to him, Hell had been far worse and he had hidden in similar areas, but something itched at the back of his mind and it was putting his teeth on edge: "Tavius better not be playing silly buggers." He muttered under his breath and moved to follow the rest down.

Giving a brief glance at the elf she turned away again, rather reluctant to follow the chant, but repeated anyway though only after the imp said it first. She then followed the group into the cave, treading lightly and looking for any potential traps. The stains on the wall were unmistakebly blood and her hand gripped the hilt of her sword lightly at the sight of it. The darkness was only broken by the glow of the orb in front, and her own aura. She's been in plenty of dark caves like this but something just felt off about this particular dungeon... or maybe it was just the elf

Wilheim was impressed Aethyr's forethought. Even if their target had other means of alerting himself to the presence of intruders it would still be useful to be able to approach as silently as possible. As Arkaid took the lead Wilheim was quick to follow a few paces behind, blade ready and held loosely in his hand. He was alert but did not let tension build in him. Now that the time for work to be done had arrived he let his mind empty of side thoughts and let simple focus take over.

Though he was glad of Malphas' light he would not have minded a flaring torch or two, as the single light seemed to generate as much shadow as it banished with the way it flickered in the gloom. He kept his pace with Arkaid, treading lightly on instinct even with Aethyr's chant softening their sounds. He didn't look back at the others, intent only on what was ahead of him.
