Diamonds might be a better(IE Higher quality) stone for Golems, etc. Hence why it's not lumped in with our weaker gemstones(aka, those from the roof, etc).

I feel that should answer the mystery. Higher quality Gemstone, more useful for Foci or whatever people talked about (since the ones we have now only store mana or something like that)

I think you're confusing me with someone else. Because certainly Renn'lir could not be this ceak boy you speak of. Certainly you must be confused. *evileye*

I think we should put the diamond in its own category because we've identified it. Sure, it doesn't matter what kind of gemstones they are, but, hey, you can at least put it in the description with the now-13 gemstones. I was just being silly and wanted to see it listed because I'm quite excited about finally getting something shiny out of the mine. :w

Only for humans.
Drow typically use adamantium, which is harder than diamond and thus better for gem cutting tools. Which we already have...

The crystal ore was the item designated as "good for golem crafting." So that would be reason why we need THAT particular resource. Still, the only use we have so far for gemstones are power-stones. That is the only use that I've seen so far.

-----------------------

Actually, I just thought of something... But Mana-lasers as a golem weapon? That just a tad out of our league right now... Or is it? o_O

You sure? Renn'lir spends so much time with Odd'anna that I thought you must just love that "stuff" she's giving away. :P

(coal?! are we going steampunk here? why is this significant?)
Just thought I'd mention: Coal is required to make steel. Low-carbon steel is similar to iron, while higher-carbon steel is stronger and harder.

It's actually pretty odd that we're able to make steel without it...

I'm sure we make all our steel using tungsten as the strengthening component instead. It's just such a common resource in this land that we don't even need to mention it.

Yeah, that's the ticket...

Oh, and on the subject of diamonds, there are more diamonds used for cutting, drilling, grinding, and polishing than for looking pretty. At least four times as many.

Adamantium is considered as hard if not harder than diamond, making it the material of choice for cutting tools.
