((I have done some stuff with arts an craft, but mostly painting and drawing. Which will be useful here, especially snits I have a scanner to use. So I'll join up with you and make some cool stuff.

Also Shana may not actually have done any arts and crafts, but she did run an arts and craft store, so she'll know how this stuff works. I hope I will be some help.))

Shana wanders in the tent, curios about a familiar smell. Looking around She saw Ka'hab with the clay. This reminded Shana of her old shop, and thinking about it Shana remembered seeing Ka'hab in her store from time to time before the attack. This gave her some scents of familiarity, which she had been missing for a long time.

"Miss Ka'hab was it? Is it ok if I join you?

((Dude, if Shana can be the organizing factor to all the stuff that's eventually going to be here, that'd be great. :) Ka'hab can keep track of orders but maintaning a clean studio is beyond all but the fussiest of potters. ^_^))

"I'd love to have all the help I can get." Ka'hab nodded, but then cautioned, "I've not had the chance to get permission from the Il'haress for helpers yet, so it can't be anything official. Right now it's just volunteering, but those who volunteer now will definatly be asked later, when it is official."

Ka'hab smiled and patted one of the lumps of clay, "Lets get this thing into the studio... or such as we have now."

((I also want to post a drawing of my plans for the kiln to fire the pieces. http://frost-indri.deviantart.com/art/K ... n-66248155 ))

Ka'hab pointed at the lumps of clay, compacted by many smacks of the hand from the harvestors who carried them over on heavy slabs of rock. "Those. "

The two lumps were large, heavy, and slimy. The clay was too watery for working, but not by much. It had taken a lot of work to get them where they were, work Ka'hab had a hand in. Once they were in the ruins the tents could be cut up and used for carrying the clay, but now, now it was a difficult, slippery, and very dirty task.

Ka'hab Squatted down and scooped her arms under the clay. "I hope you enjoy baths, 'cause you're going to need a lot of them with this job."

"Right..." Shan turned to the lumps of clay and sighed. "ok lets just get this out of the way... ick."

Walking up to the clay, and touched it. To her it was slimy, dirty, and something she never thought about having on her out side of a spa. Shana tried to grab a larger back, but found it to heavy, and slippery, so she just took smaller peaces into her hands. Carried the clay to the tent, she wasn't having to hard of a time holding it, but it still treated to slip out of her hands.

Finding a nice clean spot Shana placed the clay on a rock. "Gees I'm more use to selling this crap then hulling it. We going to need someone with some muscle to carry this stuff, or we can make some pots for us to use." Shana sighed and left to bring in the rest of the clay.

"Oh, don't worry about that. You'll get muscles for this soon enough." Ka'hab put down her lump on a rock and went back for more. She didn't see it but she was certain she was getting a dirty look at this point.

"So you used to sell supplies?" She asked. "What type did you sell? Any minerals for glazes or just painters supplies?"

Dropping off some more of the clay "I mostly sold just the basic stuff, trying to cover most crafters needs. None of it was the high quality materials, or any of the specialty stuff; to tell the truth I just did my best selling what I could get my hands on."

Shana went to wipe off her hands, but stopped part way, and sighed. "well I'll go and get the rest of the clay."

Ka'hab nodded and started smacking the lump of clay together, hitting it with powerful strokes. The less surfce area shown, the slower it would be to dry out. She'd have to find a wet rag to cover it with.

Next they'd have to go down to the river and get some rocks. Some bowl shaped ones, some that would be good for molding plates, and the some smaller smoother ones for burnishing. She glanced over at the now dirty Shana, and wondered if the girl knew what she was getting into.

(( My plan is to do some slab forms for bowls and plates. I'll let you take care of those while Ka'hab does the larger items, such as water jars and a water trough for the forge. If you want to design the bowls, just think of a slab of clay draped over a rounded form. Here is a highschool example:http://www.am.dodea.edu/ny_va/westpoint/middle/NewArtPage/images/8th%20grade/slump%201.jpg (Sorry, I tried to find better, but ... you wouldn't believe the amount of porn and football you get for using the search term "slump." ) If a foot is added, it's coil built, but at this point in time I'd recomend forgoing the foot. ))

Shana dropped off the rest of the clay in the tent, and she was now a bit out of energy. Finding a place to sit, Shana took a look at her hands. "Well at least I'll have more reasons to wash up now"

((Well I can do those easy, it doesn't look all that complex, and I'll give you a few sketches tomorrow. Hmmm bowls, cups, and plates no problem, you just handle the big stuff.))

((Not that complex but you'd be surprised. Everyone screws them up on their first try. ^_^ And take your time, I'm not going to be able to submit anything until the next time around as we are all going to be in council.))

Finally whacking the whole load of clay into a big lump, Ka'hab sat down for a breather next to Shana. Feeling rather cheerful at having her hands back in clay, she gave Shana a gentil thump, "Welcome to the working side of art."

"Look at it this way: now you'll KNOW what we crafters really need, if you're ever in the position to do supply again. " Ka'hab smiled, "Besides, i'm really glad to have the help. If I were to do it alone, set up and preperation would take forever. Back at the studio we all helped out on the big things, like gathering supplies and reclaiming scrap clay. I used to spend hours wedging for Ja' fev..."

Ka'hab trailed off, suddenly remembering where she last saw Ja'fev, gutted and dead. She stared into the distance for a long time.

"Well that's something that's never bad to learn. Thou back I was trying to save up enough Ada to turn it into a clothing store. You know your going up in retail when you're selling fashion. But now we all have to build up from scratch, I just hope people here my call for a settlement"

Shana became aware that she had some clay on her cheek, and tried to wipe it off, but it only spread.

Ka'hab shrugged. "I'm afraid I have to dissagree with you on the settlment. Look how much its taken us to get this far, and how much longer its going to take us if we spread our focus out. Besides... now we have people who've run off to the city. How much sooner we're going to have to deal with whomever lives there because of that? "

Ka'hab shrugged again, "I just want to focus on the task at hand. The Ilharess will decide. "

"Ya I gess your right, but it would be nice to have a four walls agene. I just get a bit nerves when I have nothing to do, and there are so many important things going on." Shana looked at the clay "So what am I going to need to know about, so I don't end up making a lopsided bowl?"

Ka'hab smiled. "Well, first you need a rock to use for the mold. Here, take a break, I'm running down to the river. Clear off a couple of flat stones up here while I'm gone. "

((since this isn't officially part of the world as of the comic yet, I'll just say that I ran down to the river and back without actually doing it. ^_^))

"So here are your stones. I'm leaving them here to dry." Ka'hab set down a couple of rounded stones about the size of a drow brain. "So first things first, we need to wedge. This is where most of your muscles will come from."

Ka'hab proceeded to show shana how to wedge (like kneeding dough, but harder) and how to flatten out the clay by slaping it end over end on the smooth rock.

"Now that you have this nice sized slab of clay, about a finger width of thickness, you can just drape it over this rock." Ka'hab acted to follow her words. "Then all you do is slap it around a little to make it fit the form of the rock, and leave it to dry for a little while. Just don't forget to take it off the form before it drys completely, or it'll crack."
