I am going to throw my ticket in with Bama on this. Slow and steady so we can test the waters.

Throwing this out there.

The workers we REALLY REALLY ABSOLUTELY CANNOT LIVE WITH OUT are people to help the gatherers and, FOR THE GODDESS' SAKE, Farmers

We cannot live on the river alone, not with the larger pop. We need mushroom farms, STAT. Farms produce MASSIVE yield, mushrooms grow everywhere, and they give us Beer (always a plus).

After Farmer and Gatherer help from the immigrants, we need builders. Yes, just dead weight labor to speed up construction.

After that, miners.

Finally, other specialist gatherers, if they bring animals to be used all the better.

Off the current list is craftsmen, we don't have a truly heavy need for them yet, first lets get those resources building up.

And again, so It's not forgotten, "FOR CHRIST'S SAKE WE NEED A PERMANENT STABLE SOURCE OF FOOD! FARMS!"

Easy Naruto :P food is a high priority for sure. A few mushrooms are already in the ground and hopefully the results will be positive. If we get to working for ada and producing stuff for trade we might also be able to buy some food to handle shortages if it comes to that...

I expect this discussion will be the next hot topic after the Svart question, along with cavern defences.

Sick miners: This is a clear sign that we have to think about ways to prevent the miners from dying during there work. As a short-term solution scarfs to protect the mounth and long breaks could help. Or we could let the slaves do all the work. But let our slaves die slowly isn't nice and we don't have unlimited supplies.

To protect our the eyes of our miners we could try to make safety goggles by using the crystals we found. This may worth a try. And as respiratory protection... don't know what we could do... perhaps some kind of primitive gas mask made out of cloths and metal?

The best thing we be some kind of gas mask that protect the eyes and the lungs.First thing I could think about are those stuff the Highland Raiders wear: golem enchanted masks, who allow breathing even during a gas attack and with gems as "spectacles glasses". Most likely wedon't have the resources and knowledge to built such things, but it could be a long-term goal.

We could also try to get some dwarven slaves - those little guys have no problem with bad air and can survive pretty good in places with bad air every Drow would die sooner or later.

Wall: This looks like a veryyyyyy long-going project. However the recent events show that it's necessary. I just hope the commoners don't make troubles and we don't have to call the warriors to play our body guards.

Commoner: Did we kick them all out? Or just the people who made demands/sold things we don't want?

Captured Vei'Visa: So what to do now? Seem like we gain every useful info, they had. Relase them? Keep them as slaves? Or imprission those guys until we found out more about the current situation?

Nal'Sarkoth: Good oppertunity. Hope they didn't find out that our scouts discovered a backside entrance to there territory.

Swartelos: I guess this message could just start the debat again. We just vote what to do with them and now a message arrives which could offer a new oppertunity. Still I'm curious what they want.

We need air filters/masks to be attached to our helmets.

why don't we use something similar to canaries. in the old days it was used to alert miners of the presence of excess gas.

I'm concerned about our ability to patrol such a large structure.
Maybe my sense of distance is skewed (normally is) but I don't see how even a ten man patrol, could effectively cover that distance.
That walls gotta be pretty high to allow the defenders to spot anyone trying to scale it *ooo*

I'm reckoning our big arse auto crossbows should be added to the equation

It occurs to me that we could use the large hole in the cavern floor from the quarrying as a new culture pool.

We would need to get slaves trained in mining, and overseeing them would potentially be a bit of a problem since we wouldn't be able to actually be down there watching them unless we got mask air filters/eye protectors working (in which case we wouldn't need them in any case). However, I would still call this plan our best bet for continuing work in the mine depths at the moment.

We already know there's nasty stuff down there. The problem before us is that we have to work the place anyway.

The size listed is for our entire cavern. Assuming that the scale holds true, based on the map the wall we're attempting is... maybe 300 meters long, I think. Not impossible to patrol, but it could definitely use a few installed heavy weapons, yes.

We shouldn't assume that the wall will stop a army. It just keep all the "scum" out of the cavern. A lot of commoners at our front gate probably wouldn't try to climb the wall, give up and go back to Chel if we don't want to speak with them.

So did the Miners of old. Why not have the engineers work on a golem that pumps good air into the mine. Once you clear out an area of bad gas, you still want to keep these around in case someone opens a vent without realizing it.

A table of contents for this thread with links to the thread and the comics is now available in the PTP Factsheet thread. :)

...also any help on the character first appearance list post would be greatly appreciated. Those images are sometimes really hard to identify. ^^;

There already is such a pump. Apparently it hasn't cleaned the air well enough (or hasn't been run enough times). Also, there is a lack of creatures in the underword that will die to toxic gases and fine dust; they've all adapted to such things by now. Masks are our best bet I think.
