I believe this is the case, and suspected that something like this would happen, regardless of what An'jhali had said. Thaluka also has a point, but I think that there are going to be some pretty major decisions during this battle that will affect our future (i.e. do we kill all except one for questioning like the Scarts say, or do we take prisoners?), so in addition to the mechanics of the battle (handled in the EA), we also need the LA vote options for larger "story" issues, not to mention the additional panels to show all of the battle, which may turn out to be quite a complicated thing.

So . . .

I think we should ask An'jhali to get more details. Specifically who they are, their numbers, fighting styles, if they are mana-proficient, etc. I don't like going into this blind.

We should absolutely question the prisoner(s) before handing one over, but you heard the lady-we can take as many slaves as we can control. (Khanza will be pleased.)

Thoughts? Other ideas?

The problem with getting more information at this point is that the attack may already be happening, so we don't have a lot of time. Those Svartelos decoys might die if we do not make haste, and they are only putting their lives at stake in order to provoke an attack that we again will ambush.
That is not dead which may eternal lie, and with aeons even death may die.

I don't think Kern will allow this, since we have told where the fight is going to be, that it may already be underway, and that we are to proceed there at once and deal with things. :S The scouts will just have to run ahead and check the surrounding area to see how much information we can get before our battle starts.

What I am worried about is a counter-trap. These "thugs" have been giving the information-savvy Svarts trouble, so they are probably not stupid, at least not in a tactical sense (not to mention the fact that Kern is playing them). The Rhinn double only has a small escort, so I suspect a smaller force attacking the Rhinn double and escort, with a larger force held back to counter-ambush anyone coming to rescue the Rhinn double and escort.

True, but when you go fishing, you often lose your "bait", and this is an acceptable loss. I hardly think that the Svarts are risking anyone important of theirs (maybe even calling in more "favors"), and in any case they are Svart lives and not ours. Yes, we should try to rescue them if we can, but not if it means rushing in blindly and possibly exposing ourselves to a counter-ambush.

This I completely agree with. I think we should take as many prisoners as we can safely do so, and should avoid unnecessary killing.

Here is the thing- the Svarts still don't even know this information. The reason they want a prisoner, and the reason they are using a Rhinn look-alike, is because they don't know who or where these enemies are. We should not ask them for things they clearly do not know.

In fact, since this is pretty much a combat-in-progress, the time for any questions, thoughts, or second-guessing is over. Delays during combat get people killed. :(

Nasfors is correct; we're not the one's calling the shots on this operation and it's in progress, so we gotta act quick. We've been given our role and, as I've said before, my aim is to get as many prisoners as possible (no matter if we keep them as slaves or bargaining chits with the Svarts for money or something else) it might not be feasible.

We'll outline the battle plan in the EA and go from there.

Anyone else find it odd that Rhin's absent, and a look-a-like is already in the field? Trap?
Of course it's a bit elaborate for a Svart ambush on us so I may be overthinking it... *ooo*

Given their comment about not moping up and wanting ONE prisoner,

I'd say hand over one moderate to high value target, and the rest are ours as we see fit. Personally I think Kat should get some new workers.

AS for the battle, Weilong's suggestion seems best.

They just say: "Keep one alive for questioning." that doesn't mean we should kill except for one. The just told us that they need
at least one alive, but I guess more are better in chase the one we got play the hard.
We just should let non of them run away and tell there employer that the attack failed. So I see non reason why we should slaugther anybody
that surrender - specialy not if we don't know who hired them and how pissed they would about that.

So I'm saying just do the job and then walk away. If the Svart want a bloodsheet - what I don't believe - they should kill them
by thereself.

^_^ That's been the plan for quite a while. We'll give them one without hesitation; a gesture of our good faith. If they want the rest, they'll have to deal for them; they are awfully valuable commodities for us, so I imagine the markup would be quite high. Here's to hoping the mercs value their lives more than their pay.

Silly Svarts, next they'll be asking for the gear we strip from them.

I imagine Svarts are fairly wealthy and would consider it beneath them to strip dead enemies. They'll willing to give the mine away for pretty much nothing (unless they are setting us up, which they might be). They might not be the most trustworth people, but they probably pay good. After the battle is over hopefully we'll get to talk to their Ill'haress again.

EA day 41 Midday

Postby Nasfors on Fri Feb 06, 2009 9:09 pm

Dwarven miners share much with their drow miner brethren. Ayu'mu is at least as strong as Ceiren when fighting for a turn in the tub she made with her own hands. Bel does not follow instructions well! 8P Scouts running along rooftops look like Batman. Ka'hab has changed her title from crafter to chairmaster. Brorn is Kir'ima's next recruitment goal. And Mari'ciel, at long last after over a month of hard work has succeeded in supplying a full set of arms to every organized squad! I'd like us to give her a hand for that, I'm sure she felt at times like her job would never be done.
