How long do we have? I'd really hate to lose Ves'xile's RP threads. :P

I have a really bad feeling about this... I do hope the programmers realize how vulnerable PHPbb is... we're using it for our foundation website ourselves, but lately we're being flooded with spammers and we're doing the opposite from Drowtales... we're dumping PHPbb...

Hehe, go back and listen to the podcast where Nekomartin was being interviewed; he is on it, waging a personal crusade against the vicious hordes of internet monsters and keeping us safe and oblivious!

unfortunately you will always get spammers, vulnerabilities, and bugs no matter where you go when it comes to these things. what matters in the end is constant management and monitoring, and of course, being able to respond quickly to unforeseen problems. unfortunately, it is only kern, myself, and nekomartin to deal with these things as they come up. so when you say 'the programmers', it's just us three. :)

we looked into different forum software in the past, and we found that none are truly more or less vulnerable than the others-- even those which are not free or open source. but as it stands, drowtales has habitually used phpbb, and it's been working okay for us so far. the familiarity with the software keeps me convinced in using it. :)

I know some people don't bother reading this kind of stuff from me, but I do want to ease some fears. my only hope is that the only noticable changes will be ones well received by our users :)

An other of my eternal technical questions, but this time, I'm asking in the FAQ.

Can rank to more then 1 action per turn?

As the story will continue, every ranked will have more responsability. A good exemple, the harvester. more we will continue and more we will need ressources of different things because our production efficiently will ugrade with more tools and helpers.

Maybe sooner then we tought, maybe our harvester will need to gather multiple algue, moss, crystals, water and other things. Technicaly, this is possible with enough harverters to gather all we need with more harversters and the Ranked will just have to supervise the situation as the Boss she is suppose to be.

Well, the actual system of action don't really let this possible. For exemple, actually, She could gather some crystal while her assistants gather more Alguae or look around for more type of ressources.

Thank you to answer me :D

The harvesters are gathering enough food at the moment to feed all of us, while Katralya is out checking that crystal, at least that's my understanding of it.
Also, while I was dealing with the starving slaves my helper, Ilrae, healed the wounded refugee. So more than one thing can happen at once.

ok so ive been bounceing an idea around my skull for a while... but i would like the opinion of those that know the drowtales world better than i.

Since we have Tir'yr (or whatever its correct spelling is, im never going to get used to this) and we have mana of all the affinities.. ill just say four of them for now, earth, water, air, and fire. basics.

now when i think of that.. i think Avatar from Nickolodian. their "benders" use martal arts along with the magic like abilitys of their eleament bending.

this could be one way we can use our mana and still have a strong Tir'ay (spelling) background.

just an idea would like some input as i dont get how the mana all works yet.

(never been much of a magic user myself in any role play.)

Go read Q's thread where he fights with others. He always use his earth's spell while he Tir'ay.

Here is the basis for combining mana and physical attacks. Read the two or three pages in chap. 2 starting with the linked page.
http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?check=1&order=chapters&overview=1&chibi=1&cover=1&page=1&extra=1&id=117

Ves'xile's research as a Faern was the use of subtle, mana efficient, spells rather than the mana hungry spells that Quel and Shiir used which themselves are far less mana intensive than the spells that Koil'Dorath and Quill'Yate used. The biggest risk in using mana in combat is that it very quickly exhausts the caster and leaves them unable to defend themselves even with ordinary wepons. This is why the armies of Chel'el'Sussoloth have mana combat specialists rather than all soldiers being trained to fight with both mana and conventional wepons.

One of the other disadvantages to spell casting in combat is that they have to be ones that are useful for very short amounts of time. Dispell magic is very simple to caste. A spell that needs to be maintained for more than a split second is useless in combat for this reason.

Just an update on the new forums

The module for path to power forum access is working now, so there is a very large possibility that I won't need to manage the group manually :)

As for the exact day which we'll be doing the upgrade, that's yet to be seen, but I'll let you guys know. Most likely during the weekend. :) The forums will be down that day while the conversion and preparation is being done.

The forum conversion is done, after a lot of trouble :b

If the forum skin is too dark or is giving you trouble, you can change it to the default phpbb skin in your user control panel. :)

You get added to the list when the architect actually recruits you, which won't happen until her next action at the earliest :)
