So, are we supposed to just alter our current character profiles for this adventure or make up new versions of our current characters specifically for this game? Like, I'm currently relic hunter Dur but I'd switch him to inactive and then replace him with a new, space age version of him who would stay active for the rest of this space age adventure...Or do I just mod my current character to fit the worldsetting and leave him active?

Does this draft for Space Age Cal check out for the most part? Also, any details on the Assault pistol and Heavy Pistol? I can get an idea of the differences between the two by the names but any further pros and cons to the two weapons would be helpful to choosing between them. I'm guessing the heavy has more firepower but fewer shots or longer recharge time, while the assault pistol has less firepower but more shots/less recharge time?

I think the Heavy is your standard pistol and the Assault would be the equivalent of an SMG.
If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

A Heavy pistol would be the equivalent of anything single-shot or semi-automatic and .38 or larger caliber (short range, high power), preferably in the .44+ range. An SMG would technically be a machine pistol, but since the official definition of an 'assault pistol' is pretty much any burst-shot (like a Luger) or fully-automatic handgun, it'd probably better to just treat 'assault pistol' as 'machine pistol' for the purposes of this game (and be grateful that mana weapons have no kick and therefore no climb). It wouldn't exactly be fair to say 'your standard pistol' vs an SMG because the most commonly known military/police versions of both (M9 Beretta or Glock 40 vs an Uzi) have the same caliber, so nobody would pick the one that gets fewer shots. Unless they're really good with those pistols and there's a solid ammunition limit.

I'm sorry to say it, but this is kind of necessary to balance out the disparity between the pistol types. The soldier weapons are self-balancing (assault rifles for medium and close range combat, snipers for long range, heavy cannons for large targets or large numbers of targets) but the Assault Pistol owners can just spend a bit more on ammo and lug around a few extra cells for sustained zapping, unless they overheat or something, a la Mass Effect 1 and well, real life.
