On Character Sheets

Also, can someone give me the final verdict on identifying marks on our armor? As in, are we allowed to have a symbol/gem/whatever on our armor somewhere, or no? There are all these conflicting views...

People have asked, and I'm fairly certain nobody's been allowed it. Best assume no. You're free to have a symbol IC (for forum RPs and stuff), but it won't be displayed in the comics. The reasoning for why is pretty simple: Keeping track of the armour details of 50+ characters, in addition to facial details, hair styles and everything else, would be a right bugger for any artist or GM. That would be why all the armours were standardized from the get-go.

Is a Scythe an acceptable weapon for a mana specialist?

Are we able to have weaponized gauntlets? For instance bladed gauntlets, or studded ones for hand to hand combat? I ask only because when i created my character, i noticed there were others with hand to hand as a main or secondary specialization, however i have also been told by a few relic hunters that these were not allowed.

I have a few questions.

What should one read, in regards to the world politics and such, in order to get the best experience out of the visual role play?

Is there anything to read, or do you have any advice, that would help build an appropriate character?

Are there any "Mary Sue" cliches to avoid?

Thank you for your help.

Well, for appropriate characters, just read over the current RH characters for inspiration and what power level is acceptable.

For a quick better understanding of politics and relations, just read the Clan pages here http://wiki.drowtales.com/index.php/Main_Page

And all chapters of the main comic are also highly recommended.

Me again! Anyone know any good name generators? I'm terrible at coming up with mundane ones, much less fancy Elf-y ones.

Thank you much.

Yo, been re-reading the character sheet guidelines, so just wanna confirm that secondary mana speciality is simply basic mana manipulation from now on right? No more offensive or defensive mana arts or focus etc? Everyone gets one special affinity like air or empathy and then just basic mana arts like shields and mana bolts etc?

P.S. depending on what your affinity is, is it still possible to buy or uncover mana foci during hunts & possibly add them to a mana specialist's weapon? like for a staff or mace etc?

New player here. I'm working on a sarghress character and am almost finished. However, I can't seem to figure out my history.

Howdy! I'm the squad leader of Akapasu squad, which you will probably be joining if you're going Sarghress, since we're the only ones with a free spot! When last I reached out for a new player, I posted a grand ol' post in the recruitment thread, detailing our squad and what we do, so I'll just repost it here for your convenience:

Writer wrote:In case you don't know us, we're the original Sarghress can-do monster hunter squad (unlike those posers, and our friendly competitive rivals, the Cloud Piercers) and we currently consist of two broadsword-wielding maniacs (Jak'sura and Ma'lessi), one cool and frosty Ice mana specialist (Xtka'en, and no that was a name, not a muffled sneeze) and one habitual furniture-fetishist and metal mana maestro (Sorin).

We're stuffed to the gills with equipment bought with the spoils of over (hell, has it been that long?) FOUR years of successful relic hunting, our ada bank is significant, and we have a few impressive achievements to our names, chief of them being NOT DYING. The NOT DYING thing really sells us, I think, especially considering all the grand beasts that have ended up as obstacles on our red little path.

I'm Ma'lessi, squad lead and last original member of Akapasu, and if you want to join us, please send me a private message (or, if you feel fancy, just post here in public) telling me the reason why YOU and YOUR CHARACTER would be an important asset to our well-oiled team of mercenary heroes! And if nobody else wants in, that won't matter at all and you will automatically become a part of our team given that I am freed from the burden of choice. Hooray!

Meanwhile, and as reference to what you can expect, here's how actions go in our squad:

-Comic is posted.
-I swiftly/eventually see that the comic is posted. I ask for suggestions in the squad-chat for what we ought to do, throwing out a couple ideas of my own if I have any. (Feel free to skip waiting for me to ask for them before making suggestions.)
-I wait a day/a few hours for feedback to ensure everyone has at least a chance of getting their say in.
-Feedback (or lack thereof) received, I post an action and PM all the members a heads-up that the action has been posted.
-This is usually it for the feedback phase, as having to ensure that everyone manages to get both a say and a vote in on time doesn't lend itself well to re-updating the action. Unless we have plenty of time and a brilliant suggestions crops up after an action has been posted and voted on, I try to avoid updating the action, because it resets all votes.
-The members can still support, abstain or vote against the action, though! Usually people support, because abstaining tends to lead to bad things for the abstainee and the voting against thing has never been tried. No, seriously, I don't think anyone's ever used that button. At least we haven't! Weird, really. You'd think Relic Hunters were all for pressing odd, untouched buttons.

And here is a link to our humble beginnings in the Campaign 2 archive! We eventually pop over to the Campaign 1 archive, like every other squad has by now, but feel free to re-read the comics and follow our adventures up to the present day. Think of it like homework! If you're going to be joining us you might as well know our background, right?

As for your history, I figure the most important part of a character is the personality, not all the nitty gritty of how their life has been up to that point. Once you have a personality for your character, the rest is background fluff that will seldom show up in the comic, if ever. If you're spending a lot of time pondering, you can also always post your character with a basic easy-as-pie background and chip away on the story afterwards; it can be edited in.

Also, the current mission is coming to a close right now, and it would be awfully nice to have our squad back up to full for the start of the next one!
