Portrait maker!

Portrait maker!

Postby Pariel » Sat Dec 26, 2009 3:24 am

By the request of the almighty Kite, here I relay the link to a good portrait maker for those who can't draw:

I figured out how to use the portrait maker, BUT, being the caveman that I am, I have no clue as to how to save the picture and get it on Relic Hunters as my new avatar...

Take a screenshot using the "PrtScn" key, then paste it into MS Paint. Crop. Save. Upload! Voila.

You can also use a little program like MWsnap (http://www.snapfiles.com/get/mwsnap.html).

if you're looking to get approximate skin colors for the drow races, this is what I've figured out so far:

drowolath: R37% G35% B37%
drowussu: R72% G70% B76%
mixblood (drow/drowussu): R60% G60% B64%

I'd like to add a nice tool for working with images: Paint.NET. It's free, lightweight, intuitive and pretty powerful. A lot of plugins can be found in the forums.

EDIT: Added Kite's tweaks to show how they look next to page references.

Wanted to post an update; the skin tones Kite originally suggested seemed a bit off to me, so I went through and compared face maker percentages next to panels from the comic. I used more recent chapters and looked for good, clean images about as clear and "well-lit" as I could find and adjusted the settings so they match better. I'm pretty pleased with the result and I wanted to share the fruits of my labors with you. UNIFORMITY IS KEY!!!!

The only one I couldn't replicate properly was the Drowussu: Because the facemaker uses a peach skin tone as its base instead of pure white, the drowussu skin is impossible to replicate. I included the before, pure white and reference for that image.

Additionally, I did the skins for heritage Nal'sarkoth and Tei'kaliath, as they have different skin tones as well. The Nal'sarkoth is a little on the dark side because the proper tone left it too brown-looking due to the aforementioned peach tone, but it's close enough, I think. (Still a little brown, though.)

For your perusing pleasure, I present some adjusted skin tone settings for the benefit of all!

DROWOLATH:
Before, After, Reference, Tweak:

New Code: R - 25% / G - 21% / B - 20%
Kite's Tweak: R - 26% / G - 23% / B - 22%

DROWUSSU
Before, Pure White, Reference, Tweak:

Code: ???
Kite's Tweak: R - 67% / G - 72% / B - 70%

HALF-BREED:

New Code: R - 34% / G - 35% / B - 31%
Kite's Tweak: R - 38% / G - 37% / B - 35%

NAL'SARKOTH:

here's the modified drowussu color code:

Drowussu: R67% G72% B70%

I've also tweaked the Drowolath and Mixblood (drowussu/drowolath) codes as well:

Mixblood: R38% G37% B35%
Drowolath: R26% G23% B22%

it's based upon the flat (not the shaded result) so it should be pretty close to what you're looking for :)

Edited my post to show the tweaks beside references. That darn peach-tone base really screws up with the proper color palette.

Cheers. :3

light elf coloration is simply the default skin color that the portrait maker begins with right?
