Questions!

VOTES
Additionally, both GMs have adopted a policy wherein a single missing vote slows, delays or makes an action less successful (or endangers the party). But we've gone away from "squad x fails due to lack of votes" unless more than one people fail to vote. It's been like this for a while, now, and you'll note that at least some information or event is shown instead of a complete block like I did in the beginning.

Got an addendum question after reading this. More as clarification then anything else.
I know rejects have a negative impact and supports a positive, but what is the impact of abstains of an action? The same as no vote, that the action will be slowed or stalled by the disagreeing member?

Are vanir/light elf characters allowed? I'd figure a surface dwelling race of fae that has been known to work for relic hunting drow (such as the highland raiders) would be available for gameplay.

Only drow are allowed; this has been from the beginning. This simplifies things while still providing some variety, and removes the need for balancing and prevents disproportionate numbers of races which are a stark minority.

Since everyone couldn't play a vanir, nobody can.

Why can't a mana specialist use a long ranged weapon like a bow by the way? He's a healing empath which doesn't really have ranged killing power in that specialty and healing doesn't work like it does in any MMO.
::EDIT::
I want feedback on my Nal'Sarkoth I plan to use for RH eventually. Please help me improve? *smallsmile*

Image
Ulvir
RACE: Drowolath - Nal'sarkoth skin tone
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT: Average
BUILD: Sender
EYE COLOR: Green
HAIR: Keeps his green hair in a pony-tail but somehow a couple stray strands of hair always find a way to escape and hang above his face.
DETAILS: His armor has a high collar with a simple off-white crescent on the end of his right sleeve.
WEAPON SPECIALTY: 1 handed sword
MANA SPECIALTY: Healing Empathy

PERSONALITY NOTES: Ulvir is generally a happy person who loves a good laugh and people. Even during the most trying times he'll find a good reason to smile. On the field however he stays carefully neutral and guarded to perform with the least amount of interference on his ability possible. Though sometimes his innate curiosity and eye for treasure will get the better of him.

BIOGRAPHY: Early on Ulvir's curiosity often lead him to explore areas people didn't want him, at least after discovering books he's been curbed a little bit. His natural empathy showed itself when he calmed some animals however to use his gift in exploring he specialized in healing. He's completely new to Relic Hunting but prepared all he could given his resources.

Healing empathy would certainly be useful for EIS - we've been down a medic ever since Minerva left to form Sohei Thunder.
A clerk thought that Curzon's memorandum was balls. But he was afraid to say so directly, so he wrote faintly in the margin "Round Objects". Lord Curzon replied in a note: "Who is Mr. Round, and why does he object?"

Your profile looks good. There's a typo in your build and the artist might not draw the armour customizations you've listed (relic hunters get standard clan armour for the most part) but other than that, you should be good to make your character. The sooner you do that, the sooner Emach can steal you. }:3

@Jethel: ah thanks for pointing out the typo. I almost wish I accidentally put tender xD -wants to eat steak so badly right now-
ah only standard armor. I hope I can do some modification (the crescent) to it. Otherwise hmm a detail about him.... *ooo* I looked up symbols of healing but nothing that could be relevant to a drow...though the emerald was quite nice- for general healing. But green on green? Or where would he keep an emerald with him anyway? -shrugs- I'll keep to with the crescent hopefully a detail to make him unique isn't too important =X

Regarding increasing wait times for RH Updates... :L

Ever since last august, updates have been down by one per month compared to earlier. Recently, the update schedule has taken another dip, giving us only two updates in the entirety of January, and no update as of yet, eight days into February. What's going on here, and will anything be done to improve the situation soon?

I'm not entirely sure what you expect us to say?

This situation has already been well-documented and this exact complaint answered before. It's a combination of vote time and artist speed; with Slavemaster thrown in the mix, we get inconsistent update periods. If any page turns out more complicated then expected, it acts like a traffic jam on the others.

Yes, another artist would mitigate the update rate, but it's not a magic wand solution that it might appear. There are concerns for artist jealousy (which WILL happen, even if everyone promised it wouldn't), update rate, update quality and permanency. If a new artist is not at least as good as Donny, or can't be more consistent, or doesn't stick around, the problem does not get solved.

Finding a new artist is not an easy process; Kern is hiring an employee, and the field is not saturated with qualified applicants able to do this kind of work long-term.

Needless to say, Kern is very aware of the situation, I promise you, but it's not something that can just be fixed instantaneously.

Is Kern actually looking into getting a new artist? That would actually be heartening news. Any news at all would be nice, to answer your first query.

I, and probably others, would like to get the odd status update on the 'situation', y'know. Thalar adressed this concern last november (and told us to e-mail Kern), but it has been a quarter of a year and nobody's said anything at all about it (that I've noticed) since then. As I pointed to, the situation has recently grown measurably worse for Campaign 2, so I thought I'd raise the topic again to make you aware that I'm aware, and concerned. Others might be as well, but not as proactive in trying to get answers.

I'm really not trying to be a demanding jerk here, I'd like to think that I'm a very patient person, but what am I supposed to do? With no news, I'm not sure how much of the recent delays are due to late votes, RL interference (for GM and artist both) or Slavemaster updates cropping up and taking up time. I honestly don't know if we're seeing a really bad result on the ye olde inconsistency chart, or if we're seeing the newest update trend. I would VERY much like to know whether 12-16 days between updates is going to be our new 'irregular' schedule or if this was just a month-long dip on the graph.

I would also appreciate it if we were to receive news on Kern making any progress getting a new artist to take some of the load of off Donny (it is at least my opinion that this would be very helpful, magic wand or not), or if he's decided that he can't/won't find anyone, or even if he's still waffling on the issue, because armed with that knowledge, I'll know whether I can start hoping for more regular updates in the future, whether or not it'll be worth my time and money to renew my subscription and/or whether or not I should get off my ass and send Kern a 'customer input' e-mail that might tip the balance.

I can't give you news if the situation has remained unchanged.

Please keep in mind this is an independent studio with limited staff available, with the staff that does work pushing themselves to maintain a very demanding art rate. This takes its toll. Not many people are willing to work this schedule for this pay; quite frankly, this is a bargain, so any demands tend to come across as more than a little ungrateful.

I understand we are consumers here exchanging money for service, and if you really feel you are not getting your dollar's worth, you are free to go try and find comparable services at comparable costs elsewhere.

That being said, Kern has asked that I ask those which have complained the most - which would be C2 - if they would be alright with an artist like Firefox (DD A3). He will see if another artist can take the load.

Keep in mind, however, that this will be an experimental phase; we don't know if the update rate will improve or not until the artist takes over. They may burn out easily, they might manage to give Donny enough of a break that he can resume his update rate without trouble. Be sure to check your expectations appropriately.

You guys work hard, I know. But I was beginning to feel that we were being neglected somewhat, hence my ungrateful pressing of the issue. If that state had continued, I might well have gone elsewhere. I am no more eager than the next man to spend money on something that fails to engage my interests and RH hasn't been doing too hot there lately, what with updates coming weeks apart. When the daycount hits double digits the action ends up stretched too thin and I can't help but think that things could do with improvement. I'm really happy Kern is taking the matter seriously.

I do appreciate the drowtales' staff's (at times monumental) efforts and dedication, and I do like the Relic Hunter concept, otherwise I wouldn't have spent over a year supporting it. I'd like to continue to enjoy RH, but for that I think a better update schedule will be helpful, if not essential. Therefor, as a player and squad leader in Campaign 2, I am definitely happy to let Kern get a new artist to help Donny out. The others will have to speak for themselves. Not everyone may feel as I do.

This is just a thought on RH campaign 2 update times, if artwork is delaying update times (ignoring voting times for the moment which are also an issue) would alternative forms of update be considered? I had in mind a alternating with a writtern update and then a comic update be a viable alternative. This is something I have seen work well on other webcomics where a due to the artwork required getting out a page regularly would sometimes flag. The text updates can work really well as they allow for a lot more dialoque and interaction that can't always be captured in a comic without a lot of work. By alternating you can get still get the visual feast and an immersive storyline at the same time.

Hi! Seeing as the last forum post in this topic was half a year ago, have there been any changes to Relic Hunters 2 from the original start-up?
