Menvis d' chath lu' su'aco (Trail to the Drider Hive)

Postby Krystle_dream » Fri Aug 11, 2006 9:22 pm

She folded her arms again and eyed the Streekaider as they closed in. She hated it when others came close like that.

If only they hadn't taken her katana. Oh well.

"They're being chased. Kyore, who did you say was chasing you again? I've forgotten." That was a bit of a lie of course, but Kyore did know more about the crazy woman after him.

The large male raised his eyebrows beneath his helmet and nudged Tak once more, signalling with his head and a grunt towards the lake, Tak chittered more orders to the Streekaider who surged forward and siezed Innelda, dragging her away from the group, however notably towards the lake, they weren't really biting her or anything either.

"My name is Belaxal." The male introduced himself "Formerly of the Val'Sarghress. Commander of the Hive's army. Your friend is being taken to the hive, where she will have the opportunity to perform her business within under escort, for now I want you to show me just where the tunnel you came through to this cavern is so that it may be put under guard untill such a time as it may be destroyed by our resident Faern. You will then be taken to the Hive yourself where you shall be treated by Mistress Xeriss, and you shall be left in the nearest drow trading post remembering nothing of your time in this cavern."

Innelda would note as she neared the lake that there was something hanging from the cavern cieling on a long silken cable, it appeared as a hoolw white sphere with a single drider waiting on the small island, the lake parted and Innelda was released by the streekaider. Given the option of going forward or going backwards through the streekaider.

Kyore sighed. Innelda had gone and said too much already. This was going to make things complicated.

"She is a nether summoner, quite dangerous if not handled properly. She is afraid of driders and will not go near them unless she has to. I am the one she wants, and I will deal with her myself. I simply require some time and the proper tools. Your home provided an opportunity, a place to recuperate, gather my wits, and acquire certain necessary tools."

He considered the drider's words for a moment.

"I will make a deal with you. Uul'Shiana is about as much of a fairy princess as a rock golem, and certainly far more dangerous than any threat you might have encountered recently."

He revealed his clan crest with his remaining hand.

"I am Kyore'Saa Val'Ilhar'Dro. I request the services of a blacksmith, my arm, my guitar, our other equipment, and our free release. In exchange, I will remove the threat of a powerful nether summoner and her subordinates. I will also grant you the aid of my name in your next dealings with my clan. I am not unknown among my clan, certainly not without influence. I strongly suggest you take me up on my offer. It will not bode well for your trade if you are found to treat an Ilhar'Dro noble roughly."

Her eyes flashed, but she didn't release her sorcery. What point what there be of that? She just listened to what the male offered-and seized it. It was no matter to her as to what happened to the other two, after all...

She looked back for a few moments-then making some kind of salute to Kyore and Masendreia, she turned back and walked forward towards the lake. She wanted to see about that sphere anyhow.

Belaxal cleared his throat and reached up tp remove his helmet, notably he had only very short hair and his central eye was a black orb. He tried his best not to laugh.

"When the hive was first founded I was guarding the mother on the way here, and I can recall that the Illhardro were right behind the other clans in hunting our kind merely because they thought us ugly relics of the past. We do not deal with clans. And the Illhardro enjoyed the hunt more than many others."

"You will then remove a threat to us that would not be here if you had not come. We do not take kindly to extortion, Kyore'Saa Val'Illhardro." He looked to the others, "Imprison the male, contact Ushduin to seal the cavern and ready the militia, red eyed and grey skinned Waelinider and Streekaider ready for patrols."

The Drider tamers seemed to converge through the streekaider swarm and surround Kyore especially, however only one of them approached Masendriea and was much more polite, they escorted them to the lake where Innelda had been waiting as the water parted to leave a clean path towards the hanging silken orb.

The orb was hollow, and a single drider was inside it waiting, she looked generally bored but as the three were escorted aboard it she pulled a length of silk and they jerkily began to rise upwards, the female began to whistle a monotinous tune that seemed to be played in every elevator in existence. There wasn't enough room for the driders within the Silk Orb, however the operator kept a crossbow handily pointed at him, and her other hand on a cable marked 'disconnect'.

She glanced around the orb looking as if she wanted to examine the silk, but too polite to do so.

"Hmm...I wonder...." She tapped her chin as she thought, her eyes narrowed. Then she blinked, and noticed the crossbow. She just stared Kyore full in the face-and rolled her eyes.

Stupid male...

((I'm assuming we're moving this to the nests in the next few posts?)

"Is diplomacy such a lost art?"

Kyore sighed, looking at his stump.

"You have taken everything I care about, drider, apart from my life, which is a passing thing. If fate dictates it, you may have that as well, but heed my warnings, not for my own sake, but for yours."

He made no effort to resist as he was dragged away, but he certainly did not make the job easy. He preferred non-violent resistance. When he noticed Innelda's rolling eyes, he felt a bit indignant. Who exactly did she think she was, judging him? He had everything under control . . . mostly, and emphasized this with a roguish grin and a sly wink. He hummed along with the female drider, offering her the same roguish grin. He may be crippled and weaponless, but he was still formidable.

"You expected anything different? Not exactly the welcome I was hoping for but certainly not as bad as I was expecting. At least they haven't beaten me . . . yet. Just relax and take things in stride. It all works out right in the end."

Belaxal snorted as Kyore was taken away, the others were distributing the orders, the tunnel was now being watched, there was little else to do now, but Belaxal could remember, better than any others, all those centuries ago, diplomacy? Ha. That coming from a drow, the driders had tried diplomacy, the drow merely used it as a means to make sure they caught the mother with her eight legged trousers down. Kyore was lucky that his warnings were heeded, he was now a bargaining chip in a dangerous game that he started. If he wasn't he would be dead.

The male drider turned on the militiawoman behind him, "Make sure that Ushduin comes personally to set up new defensive wards, and alert Zezhuan, she would certainly like to know that a Nether Summoner is on their way."

All the while, there was an additional pair of eyes fixed on the new group of Drow. Or rather, 3 and a half pairs, as 7 red eyes watched them curiously, the purple pupils shifting around and watching their every move. He couldn't hear them, but it seemed like they were making a big show. He found a surge of anger well up as he watched one of them, a female. He was positive they hadn't seen him, as he clung to the wall, the darkness obscuring him well, but he also knew the other Driders knew he was there. Not that he carred for that, after all, it was not forbidden. However, he felt his anger disipating as he got a closer look at the only male of the Drow. His eyes widened as he caught a glimpse of a familiar crest, one he had not seen in a long time.

"Illhar'dro..." he whispered, both bitter and surprised. He watched them being lead away, narrowing his eyes again. He watched the spot where they disappeared for a while, before re-adjusting his clothes, and beginning his descent up the cave wall again. He had come down with the intention of going out a bit, but with the arrival of those Drow, the cave was likely to be sealed, so he could as well just return the way he came, anyway.

He was lost in thought as he reached the Hive again, nodding briefly to the guard as he passed. He was curious where they would take the Val'Illhar'dro, wondering if he would get the chance to speak with him. He wanted to know what happened after his departure all those years ago...not everything, as he accepted the Hive as his new home long ago, but still, his curiousity was picked.

She just made a rude snort and folded her arms, watching the mechine works of the web again.

"Why would I be worried? I'm not the one who brought a threat to them..." This was, naturally, said in a mutter. She had more important things to think about then a mere male in trouble, afterall.

"Threat is a very strong word. I like to think of it more as an opportunity to test their negotiation skills. This might work out well for them. Uul'Shiana holds a great deal of sway among the Vloz'ress. She could certainly do something about the hunting parties that our hosts mentioned."

It seemed it was going to take alot more than his silver tongue to convince Innelda that he knew what he was doing. He had encountered this kind of thing before, with the dwarves, though they were certainly rougher with him. It had taken weeks for the bruises and cuts to heal. He knew that other cultures accepted drow differently. He was hoping he could at least get an audience with someone who thought with the mind rather than the muscle. He had a great deal of respect for warriors, but sometimes words were more affective than a sword.

He looked once more at the drider with the crossbow trained on him.

"Is that really necessary? It's not like a cripple like me can do anything. I am neither warrior nor faern, just a crippled musician."

The Drider stopped her humming and snorted.

"You don't get it do you?" She hissed, still keeping her crossbow level with Kyore, "We don't negotiate here, we never do. We don't deal with clans, she could stop the hunting parties but the thing you must realise is that the hunting parties don't know that the hive is up here, they just think it's a cavern with a lot of driders in it, those they hunt and kill are just the ones who can't get to shelter quickly enough. If she stops the hunters then they'll know where we are, and how long would it be before they start hunting us again? We would have to start over again. And The Mother will not live through another journey."

"All you've done is to endanger the lives of every woman man and child in this community and by rights if you did not bring this threat here you would have been executed to ensure that our location is kept a secret."

((I do hope we can end this peacefully.))

"I am Ilhar'dro. I have to believe that negotiation and diplomacy work. It is who I am."

"Coming back to Chel was a big mistake."

He shrugged, deciding it was high time to shut his trap before it landed him in even more trouble, if that was possible. Everything had gone wrong since his return to Chel. First he blew a good portion of his savings freeing Durin. Then he ran into that human slave and crazy golem maker. That was interesting to say the least. Then Uul'Shiana shows up and tries to kill him. Finally he lands in what he thought would be relative safety only to find that he has suddenly endangered an entire community. This was certainly not his day.

He then patiently waited for the driders to take him to wherever they decided to keep him. He had a feeling that it wouldn't be pleasant.

. . . Elsewhere in the caverns

"What do you mean you've lost his trail?"

Borokna turned to Uul'Shiana, looking completely perplexed.

"It is just gone, mistress, nothing else, just gone."

Uul'Shiana considered his words.

"There are driders in this area. He must have met them and shelted with them. We will speak with the first tame drider we find. I will only leave if I have Kyore, alive and unspoiled. I want to torture him personally."

Those in the orb would suddenly jerk to a sop in their rise upwards, looking down they would no longer be able to see the cavern floor, they were approximately 800 feet up, and there was a the sound of metal sliding on metal then another goan, there was the noise of scuttling legs and around them from the small holes and the 'door' of the orb those inside would see the descent of a handful of driders, each on their individual threads, they would catch a brief glimpse of conversation also.

"Isto'uss, we need to make haste."was all they would hear.

---

"Xeriss can sense them." Ushduin shouldered his battle axe and hurried towards the tunnel, "If they are already in the cavern we can at least make sure that they cannot le--" The elder Faern grit his teeth as he found that just nearby was the Vloz'ress they had to block off, only three so far, but they could turn the entire hive into a murderous mob in a moment if they wanted to.

"Go around, keep to the tall fungi, get ready to fight but keep those wards ready for when we arrive."

---

Those in the silk orb would then be lurched up the last few feet and find themselves in a low ceilinged room, dank and with the 'clak clak clak' sound reminiscent of basic golem engineering they would then be ushered out into the light of the central shaft of the hive, where they would be faced with the assembled forces elected to go against this new threat and kill it, a tall female drider was addressing three others, one carrying a long polearm like those in the cavern below, another wearing armor similar to the Beldrobbaen army and the third was a Drowussu warden... just with eight legs and a thorax.

The female talking to them radiated the aura of the one in charge, and if they knew anything about traditional summoning would sense an abundance of sealed souls on her person.
