A Quest for Five (Chapter 0-1 - Raveran, Party Setup)

Postby Vajra » Wed Apr 26, 2006 5:00 am

((I'll wait for the Wraithblade to reply before I post anything longer, or else we will end up with an inert alchemist! Warning: May Explode

Secondly, imagine this present scene as "yesterday" in RP time so Athaeyen won't be alienated until she posts perhaps late next week))

The Illhar'dro turncoat snarled, "What do you know about my feelings when you so graciously pulled me to that disgusting place!"

Still, this wasn't a time for an argument with his supposed party member. He put a hand on his hip, obviously quite impatient. Really, it was a gesture completely for effect.

"You're right, kinsman, people do ovverreact. But they tend to back off after a third-degree burn to the face."

He drew and flourished one of his wavy-bladed dirks, making it spin and whir around his hand as if it had life of it's own. Sheathng it once more, he stuck out his heavily gloved right hand for the newcomers to shake.

"Nath'aen and Vir'ednith Vel'Vloz'Ress. I saw the intriguing collection of characters at your table, and naturally wished to find out more. I'm just trying to get by in this world, like anyone else, and such conversation as yours was sure to provide interesting opportunities for employment."

"Hmph, you're about as fun as you look, "Illurius crosses his arms and raises his chin before reaching out to dismiss the offered hand with an open-handed slap.

"The prospect of us killing each other is not far from reality. So don't bother to hide it with useless pleasantries. Still, it is refreshing to meet one as sharp as a dagger unlike some other people. Not that your kind would attract flowery praises in the first place."

He glares at Sezaru as though to say don't spoil my fun. before sitting on a stone stool opposite the alchemist, raising a brow at Sezaru, almost admiring his reactions to his sentiments.

"Not like that," Illurius grinned, waving a hand of dismissal at the Vloz'ress, "I'm sure you both have your unique... charms."

"Now, as to what are we up to - we are foolishly risking our lives in a quest of justice against one of the most powerful sorcerors of the realm. If that is not enough I seem to be the only one here with any notable tactical prowess - and a modest capability at that."

"But if you wish to so blatantly eavesdrop on us I would prefer you formally doing so in our tiny order of battle - while I will make no promises I am sure you will gain much from following us, as well."

"After all," he rises and twirls around in a flourish of red, purple and white, "in our history the greatest factions today all start from here - which is nothing. I have no capacity to lead - but our Yathrin has many years ahead of her yet."

"Imagine if our pathetic band of riffraff manage to triumph in our task - you and your unconventional... witchcraft will easily gain acceptance in the realm. Just like that."

He gestures at the newcomer with an upraised palm while looking out a window - its paper covering tattered and torn, and spies a far-off figure of a garishly bard. Hurry up and report to me, you confused son of a whore.

Turning away from his barbarically-attired audience, he throws his mane and some closing words over his shoulder as he turns to leave, "You two have no obligations of loyalty whatsoever. I don't care what you do in the days to come - but if you want to make this a worthwhile effort you will all be proud of you will work towards nothing but the achievement of the Lady Athaeyen's task. And so far I see Sezaru is doing well..."

((I will have one or two more joining us from my cosy little 'net community in "another realm". One promiscous half-drow mafia wannabe bard is inbound to the registration thread shortly. :)

I'm presently speculating on the later conduct of Athaeyen's plot - for us right now we are masters of our own fate and sub-quests. My idea to spread out the workload of GMing fairly amongst us - a blatantly Communist style - is for the chief Yathrin to lay out a background on "what needs doing" in the plot while we execute her desires. Our conduct in writing and party leadership thus affects completion or failure of each phase of the plot.

There - some semblance of drow authority!

For instance we may come to a point where we are travelling in the wilds for X distance - it'll be boring if we did a one sentence travel scene but much more realistic and fun if we let each one of us in turn run the transit scenes to simulate a dynamic world.

Tell me what you think. Or else :) ))

Thaen shrugged simply. "Danger, hopelessness, certain doom? Sounds like a heckuva time."

"And we are not so lacking in experience and wisdom as you might believe," he continued in a completely different voice.

He groaned.

"I thought I told you to shut up!" he snarled, evidently to the air around him.

The split personallity of this new vloz ress made sezaru laugh. If Athaeyen thought that sezaru was strange, just wait until she meets Nath'aen/Vir'ednith.

While the display was comical to look at, the addition of another vloz ress made sezaru uncomfortable. He was betraying his clan after all, would Thaen agree to go along with the crazy plan?

Sezaru moved to the table, and sat down. He put on his white mask. For now, he was going to stay out of the conversation, let the sarghress explain thier situation.

((Nice avatar! Feel free to have Sezaru take control of the conversation - I didn't ask you to obey me :) ))

Illurius had already left the conversation. He had after all given the newcomer everything he needed to make a decision on whether to stay, leave, or even to betray. Whatever the outcome, it wasn't on his mind to bother.

He had long ago grown out of sparking loud debates on the most inconsequential matters, for such pastimes were best left to females of the realm - so just as he had allowed Sezaru to show him who he was he would let the alchemist paint his own picture.

With his absence the table had gone quiet and he considered asking Sezaru to attend to his clanmate. However he had more interesting pursuits to try, such as seeing how Sezaru took charge of the situation. The man was decisive when pushed to act all right, and Illurius wanted now to see if he could create opportunities for his own benefit.

He had known a diverse breed of people in his travelling days, and known even better the mistakes they - and himself, can make. Yet for all this, everyone seems to learn best the hard way...

Sezaru narrowed his eyes as he watched Illurius walk away from the other vlozress. Damn it! How am I going to explain this, without exposing myself as a traitor? he thought to himself.

He motioned for Nath' ean to sit down. "ahem Well, the other day I met these two, Athaeyen of Beldrobbaen and Illurius of... Sarghress. I was very weak at the time, and they gave me food and payed for my rent at this inn. I am now in debt to them. The act of sharing anything with a vlozress was very kind of them, and so, when they asked me to join them on this quest for vengence, I couldn't say no. It wasn't until later that I found out we would be hunting one of our clans summoners." Sezaru paused. He hoped that Illurius wouldn't correct any of the 'flaws' in his story. "While I don't want to, I owe these people a lot. Besides, I believe this specific summoner to be more insane than the rest. I also think she ntends to attempt to overthrow Sene'kha and Kharla' ggen." The lie came out easier as sezaru went along. "I will protect the interests of the Vloz' Ress, even if it means killing commiting treason. "

Sezaru though that his story would come back and bite him in the ass sooner or later, but he could worry about that when it happened.

He held his breath, and waited for Thaen to respond.

[ya, that is kind of a bad convincing argument i think, but what else could i say *sweatdrop* ]

[also, sorry if there are spelling errors, i am writing this on a screen with really small writing, and i have too much of a head ache to go correct it]

((Let's wrap this up before Thursday. Main quest will be launched for real then. If you don't get ready then I will kick you each in the bum and drag all of you recruits into parade formation for the lady's inspection when the time comes.

Are we moving? Then at least make an effort to -look- the part! Or do you need some 'proper motivation'? :)

No I'm joking, I'll do the fast-forwarding to the "present day" in our RP on your behalf, giving Athaeyen a summary of our newly reinforced combat power and what we appear to do best. Or do you want to go adventure with a disorganized band of riffraff when we get to dance to the orchestra of battle and trip over each other?

Unless my archrival in another realm, Susruko, makes an entry here I will not be posting anything for Illurius unless you want to see me take 'creative liberties' with my character like when I was bored earlier on in this thread.

I have a lot of modifications I want to make for Illurius's starting scenario for the sake of being respectable, and I will need of course some details on Athaeyen's history and personality in order to properly construct the fanfic version of this plot. Same for Sezaru - like you just gave me in your post above. Reading my mind already? Hmph!

:) ))

[[Update for plans re: main quest -

I intend to formulate a new thread for that, since due to my posting style when I started RPing here I don't find this one very constructive in the start. Makes for painful reading, IMO.

I will start that one with "character motivations" (why did our bunch of riffraff get together, etc) listed and a summary of what had transpired since Athaeyen had met Sezaru and myself.

So a nice concise fresh thread with a listing of relevant information, instead of continuing with a bloated one like this.]]

Thaen stood quiet for a few moments, then nodded. Rarely was the whole and complete truth spoken in Drow society, and thus Thaen didn't know exactly how much of his clansman's tale to belive, but it rang true enough.

"Ilharess Kharla'ggen is not as bad as those who only rely on rumor for their information might believe," he said loud enough for the "sahrgress" and Beldrobbaen to hear. "Besides that, she is our rightful ruler. As such, I will gladly lend my alchemial and fighting skills to all of you on your quest to dispose of this madwoman," he said, offering his fire-retardant-gloved hand to Sezaru.

"As will I," Vir'ednith added, somewhat after the fact.

((Understood. I just thought I'd finish up Thaen and Vir's introduction/induction into the group.))

[[ I appreciate the completeness!

A fresh start for our thread - here
http://www.drowtales.com/drowforums/vie ... php?t=8761

I intend to make the starter post a "gateway" to all relevant information of our characters, their motivations and posting times so we can let readers have an easier time going through our work.

Why, I would be glad if you would give critique on my visualisations of your characters' personality so I can periodically produce summaries for what we achieved - just as I've done in the new thread there.

As the RL day progresses, the more complete the "gateway" will be.

For the starting RP in the new thread I intend to do that little inspection scene there - once I finish with the detailing I will start. I may or may not wait for Susruko - we know each other well and he's the type to work independently, so we can do an ad hoc addition of his character anytime. ]]

(OOC: As I've been absent for a bit, I think it may be appropriate for Athaeyen to catch up a little, and move her over to the new thread. Apologies!)

Athaeyen had never heard of an alarm clock, but if such a thing existed in Chel'el'sussoloth, she would have been the first in line to purchase one. Sleeping in was a pastime of hers that did not die easily. The girl was the physical equivalent of a teenager, after all. Finally, she mustered up the motivation to open her eyes long enough to take in the unfamiliar ceiling.

"Sharess!"

Fine 'leader' she would make. Judging by the dull roar of voices outside her room, it was late into the work day. Swinging herself out of the all too comfortable bed, she searched about for her clothing. Neatness was another skill Athaeyen had yet to acquire- her clothing lay in wrinkled heaps where she had hurriedly deposited them the night before. At least there was still a bit of water left in the chipped basin to wash her face. Finally, Athaeyen was ready to leave the room and apologize to her companions for her tardiness.

The girl made her way down the stairs, only to be confronted two crazy males in Vloz’ress get-up. At least, judging from their height, she assumed they were males. Her stomach did a weak sort of flip-flop at the most unwelcome sight. What was more, the Vloz’ress were exchanging conversation. Athaeyen’s eyebrows shot up in a hopeless expression. Two crazies! In addition, Athaeyen was responsible for hunting one of their brethren. This was not her day. Fortunately, no one appeared to have noticed her, so she went to some insignificant corner to listen.

Sezaru’s speech caused Athaeyen to grip her chair tightly. What was Sezaru and Illurius up to while they were separated? Was this why there was a second nutty Vloz’ress tailing them? Athaeyen could not even be sure of what side Sezaru would aid, let alone this stranger. Quiet panic mode seemed to be an attractive choice at the moment.

The Vloz’ress offered to join them. Them. He would fight alongside Athaeyen, against a clan mate he had only heard rumours of from drow that were naturally prejudiced against his kind. My, this little quest was suddenly popular. Or perhaps it was Sezaru. Could she and Illurius take on these two, if events went sour? Athaeyen doubted it. Illurius seemed competent enough, but Athaeyen had little faith in herself after her first disastrous attempt to complete her quest.

“Thank you for your offer.â€

Affairs of honour

He tossed several loose locks of hair over his shoulder as he kicks idly at rocks on the ground. Illurius had waited for Sosruko at a meeting point they had agreed upon beforehand, but although the self-appointed Saghress had kept to the appointment, the inept bard had decided to once again "disappear" without having even the slightest bit of courtesy to inform him of his decision not to partake in his present route of employment.

But only fools went around urban landscapes with merely single items on their mind - after all with proper mental prowess one could easily accomplish various tasks in a single outing for his benefit. It only took a bit of foresight...

Before Athaeyen started the journey tomorrow Illurius wished to call upon the various acquaintances who had assisted him with reintegrating himself with society after the Val'saghress terminated his employment as a specialist of skirmisher troops - no matter how bad his attempts were in socialising.

After all his friends had no obligation to support him and tolerate the more undesirable sides of his nature. It was when going about this task that he realised that all his friends were much, much older tham himself, with only a couple of elderly males on the list.

Receiving mixed reactions as half the matronly females he knew simply let their heads swell at Illurius's thanks, he nevertheless went about his assigned tasks about Val'Raveran, finally arriving back at the inn he "acquired" for Athaeyen's party with a sigh of exhaustion. It had been a long "day", whatever time measurement meant in the underworld.

Illurius was lonely, and while walking he had recounted his first meeting with Athaeyen and Sezaru. While the two of them, and indeed himself each harboured second thoughts about trusting each other they seemed to get along well enough when action needed acting upon.

On several occasions he regretted being hasty with Athaeyen - when was the last time he had a lady friend of similar age or younger? It was a long time ago. He quite missed the friendly attentions he received from fellow affection-starved males as well back when he was a noble's child.

Maybe Sezaru would be willing? he thought.

And a moment later he gave himself several mental slaps in rebuke for letting his mind wander - such thoughts were dangerous. He tried vainly to focus on some other less... private matters, finally setting his gaze on Athaeyen speaking to the newcomer. Was it wise of her to attend to the newcomer personally? For all he knew he could be an assassin.
