Leisure Area and the Pillar of Light [PUBLIC]

Postby HavocHamster » Sat Oct 23, 2004 12:18 am

Yul was fairly upset by the fact that his potion shop had been raided while he was gone. He had decided to come to the Pillar of Light in order to calm down. He had always found the brilliant glow of the pillar and the Tiktikkis very good for stress relief. His alchemetical equipment that he had inherited from the old gnome long ago remained within his ruined lab. But everything else was gone.

So much research.. so many adas.. all lost. Yul found himself on a very tight budget now. He needed Ada to finance the rebuilding of his lab. But that would take a noble's wages to accomplish. And Yul had no way to make any money since all his alchemetical supplies had been destroyed during the raids.

Yul now sat in the central area of the Leisure Area. The alchemist watched some noble girl and her body guard talking to downtrodden commoner. Another drow sat nearby stroking a Tiktikki.

Yul's mind began to wander.. wander back to happier times.. Times before the horror.. The horror had taken so much and given so little. Yul tried to repress the memories of that dark time..

"Say... where are you.." The Alchemist said longingly. A tear could be seen forming in the corner of his eye but he quickly wiped it away and tried to repress the memories. He began to pet a nearby Tiktikki while chewing on a piece of stale bread he had found in the ruins of his lab.

He sighed. This was probably the last meal he would be eating in a long time.

*Shiv'arl decides to tag along, to see what he can learn, a look of concetration on his face. Finally he manages to project his message into the mind of his employer*

I am not as uppity as you think, just very cautious. As for the useless part, I am damn well useful. You really should be more careful about what you let run across your mind. I don't care if you are a female, all get equal treatment from me, so expect on different.

Athidus opened his eyes and cast his gaze up to Athaeyen's visage, though only briefly. He didn't usually like to pick fights with clanners, particularly not females. And very often, looking into a female's eyes was enough to do it.

"Your eyes are sharp, my lady," he said with a gentle nod of his head. "I've heard enough to submit an opinion, if I may be so bold. Normally, when I hear that the clans are looking for freelancers for a particular mission, they generally involve commiting suicide, or at least a variation thereof."

"But, I don't mean to be difficult with you, Lady.. Athaeyen, if I haven't gone hard of hearing. If this were such a mission, then you would be an expendable male of the clan, rather than- and pardon me if I assume too much- a noble female." With that, Athidus relinquished his hand from Kunai's head and stood, though as soon as he had risen, he dipped into a bow again. "My name is Athidus, and you have my attention."

((Sorry for the small bit of interruption! Onizuka, I sent you a PM. Tone down the empathic mind reading/projection to a minimum, since it is considered a refined skill that requires effort. :) Do you guys remember Faen in the webcomic? She was an empath as well.))

For the Xuei'Solen, scent and sound were the world....

Ma had been given a piece of cloth worn by the intended recipant of his message. As he jogged, he drew this from a pouch hung loosely on the Beldrobbaen livery he wore and breathed in.

A subtle blend of scents was infused in the material. Ma smelt perfumed cleansing sand, a touch of oiled leather, and the stink of not-quite-washed out blood. His recepiant was clearly no stranger to violence. The smell of dirt and the city ran rampant over the material. this person liked to travel, and could be hard to find.

Ma continued jogging, sampling the air, listening, smelling for his recepiant, unaware of what destiny had in store for him....

Athaeyen smiled on impulse.

"Right in one Athidus. I am perfectly disposable. However, as I'm sure you have overheard, I carry enough ada to make my person important, for now. You can drop the formalities, by the way.. I detest such time-wasting rules. And time is not a commodity I have in large quantities. So, here is my preposition: I need mercenaries, skilled fighters, the like, for an.. Excursion.. One such as yourself may have heard the rumours of the Drider killings. From that, I suppose you can deduce our mission. A more detailed explanation will be made available as soon as I've finished trying to recruit drow for this mad escapade. The reward is quite alot of ada, and possible employment if desired." Athaeyen paused, studying Athidus' coming reaction.

Speaking of recruiting.. I will need more than just warriors. Magic users would be most desirable.. Whatever is killing the Driders may not be entirely mundane. But Faern and Sorceress' are not easy to come by, even with the ada I have. An alchemist may do in a fix. But where to find one..? They normally aren't disposed to wandering about admist chaos. Perhaps Athidus or Shiv'arl-

Athaeyen's thoughts were interrupted by Shiv'arl's projected message. She carefully kept her face impassive. An empath.. Quite interesting. Far from useless, but I am not readily fond of the idea. There are some things that are better kept unknown. We will be discussing these matters soon Shiv'arl. Indeed..

((Could you have been any more obvious? :p))

Yul'kalim rose to move on to another area of the Leisure Area. As he rose his equipment sack fell loose from his shoulders and hit the ground with a loud clash that sent Alchemetical equipment everywhere. The Alchemist bent over and began to furiously re-package all the equipment.

You nitwit! You're drawing attention to yourself! And that is a bad thing. He said to himself. He could already see some of the more downtrodden citizens of Chel'el'sussoloth looking in his direction. That was never a good thing...

It was nothing more than a chance breeze...

Postby Maximillian Caine » Sat Oct 23, 2004 1:49 am

A rogue zephyr fooling about, but on it was bourne the unmistakeable scent of Athaeyen. Ma changed immediatly changed course. As Ma approached, he could hear the sound of a female talking to a male... and restless noises of two others.

One smelt of smoky inns and disreputable dealings. He half-thought he could catch the scent of Styx, a blending of certain rare fungi that when inhaled regressed the inhaler to a vegetative state for half an hour. Expensive and exclusive to the black market, given that drowish vegetables don't benefit the clan. He also heard the sound of leather rasping on skin, and the slight fub-fub-fub of numerous sheaths rubbing against a breathing chest.

The other was, in comparison more "clean living". Armour plate rubbed against armour plate in a continual, gentle, grinding motion. He could hear the haft of a heavy weapon thump against the ground, and smell the sourness of a barracks and long duty on him. Ma chose to present himself to this soldier.

"Excuse please sir. I am bearing a message for M'lady Athaeyen Kai’cielle from her cousins in the clan. If that is the lady I can hear, please inform her of the message."

((Haha, I wanted to give you a nudge Havoc. Forgive the painfully obvious italics.))

Athaeyen's head snapped towards the source of the sudden disturbance. As did many others. The strange gadgets spilled from the male's bag looked like- Ah, how wonderfully convenient. Either he has just robbed an alchemist, or happens to be one. My, 'Lucky' day. Athaeyen looked back to Athidus, making mental note of the male's location. She patiently awaited the mercenary's response while mentally running through confrontation situations with Shiv'arl. One thing was certain, the mind reading had to stop. There was a reason, afterall, why the entire story was not told immediately...

Not good, Not Good, NOT GOOD!

The Alchemist pulled down his cloak, revealing hair dyed in a similar fashion to that of the Val'Shargess. He began to carefully put the battered intruments back into his sack and prepared to leave before one of the cut-throats decided to make their move.

He finally packaged the goods and started to move away from the immediate area before someone decided that he was an easy mark. An assumption that would most likely true.

Walking in the light of the pillar now, Gion looked about at the bussel of activity. Many outsiders and drow alike to which he could sell to. He adjusted his pack while looking for a place to set up shop.

Finding a small outdriving corner with no current posseser, he walked over, laid his cloak on the ground and began to reset his shop back up. His banner now set, he sat and waited patiently for anyone who would take a look at his supplies.

((Sorry for the delay!))

Athidus never does quite flinch at the loud clattering of the alchemist's falling bag, nor does he bother to turn his head in Yul's direction. Athaeyen's comments about carrying enough ada to make her valuable had rather sparked his interest, but his face only showed a somewhat jovial, appeasing expression.

"Thank you for that," he said of Athaeyen's comment on formalities. "I like a Lady that doesn't mind speaking like the ninety-eight percent of the world that isn't nobility. No nasty connotations intended," he offered with a wave of his hand. Kunai nudged his foot gently, and Athidus stooped to pick up the affectionate tittiki and allowed it to nuzzle against his chest as he spoke.

"And, indeed, a mercenary's life does tend to instil one with certain deductive abilities. Your clan has a great love of spiders," he gestured slightly as he explained the terribly obvious. "Driders are being killed, and mercenaries are needed to put a stop to it because clan operatives are currently occupied with other engagements. Consider myself at your disposal." Out of habit, Athidus inclined himself into a slight bow.

"But, before we leave, I'd ask that we make a brief stop by the Black Dragon Inn. I don't normally walk the streets with all of my, ah.. tools." Athidus offers Athaeyen a semi-conspiratoral smile and stoops to set Kunai on a nearby ledge, tapping the tittiki's snout once. "And you, stay."

Athaeyen nodded, the corners of her mouth turning upwards slightly. "Certainly Athidus. It will be several hours before we depart; as I need to finish recruiting to our cause. That should be ample time to pay a visit to The Black Dragon. However, I am not as soft-hearted towards driders as the rest of.. my.. clan; if they threaten us, every drow present will have my authorization to defend theirself in whatever means necessary. Arm yourself well Athidus, though I probably need not warn you on this issue. Whatever is doing the killings is no weakling." She dipped her head in a way of formal farewell, and proceeded to follow the alchemist, who was attempting to discreetly make his way from the scene, and failing on all counts. Athaeyen made note of the Xuile'Solen that had accosted her guard. Why is he there? Certainly not for the good health of my escort. If he is from the Acting Commander, something unpleasant will happen..

The 'alchemist' was simple enough to catch up to. Athaeyen ignored the interested stares directed to his bag. There would be a robbery soon if the male wasn't careful.

"Hold, alchemist! Yes, you. A moment of your time please, it may be worth your while." Idly, Athaeyen's eyes began to wander as she waited for the alchemist to reply. A new shop had bloomed while she had made her deal with mercenary Athidus. The wares sparkled brilliantly against a threadbare cloak. Heist waiting to happen.. But, after a day like this, it may be something enjoyable to look through. This sort of talking is really quite tiring after a while...
