Balmalung Reforged - A Duergar Adventure (Open)

Balmalung Reforged - A Duergar Adventure (Open)

The streets are dark this evening. The lights are snuffed out or covered, and the light from above has trouble reaching down here. However, the slave caravan has to be moved through Chel and it could not wait.

Two guards, and two and two. One at the end wears gauntlets with glowing, blue crystals that look distinctly magical. She will be the second highest priority. Highest will be the guard in the front who, like the others, is armed with both halberd and sword but unlike the others also carries a horn.
Rugo signals to Laikal that he is to focus on the woman in the back and take her out as fast as possible. With a grin, Laikal readies a small metal ball and reveals a tiny fire foci to light the fuse. They are only four dwarves, but the line of slaves is long and the guards are far between. If they move fast and strike true, they can take out the pairs before the others can gather to help them.

The guards do not notice the faint *tink* when the metal ball rolls out from the alley, its fuse emitting a low fizzling sound. Only a brief glimpse of surprise falls over the blue-clad woman's eyes before the bomb goes off and sends her and one guard sprawling. This was the signal Rugo and the other warriors were waiting for to burst out from the darkness and attack. The frontal guard raises the horn to his lips, but Rugo lunges his battleaxe in him before he has time to blow it.

The battle is short and ruthless, and within moments the Drow guards all lay slain on the street. Rugo retrieves his axe from the chest of the hornblower just as Ogar returns with the freed Duergar slaves.

"I count nine souls, brother", Ogar's round, bubbling voice rolls in the dwarf tongue, gesturing to the three women and six men behind him. He hands Rugo the small key used to open their shackles. Rugo tells his warriors and their new companions to quickly make for the hide-out, but Elin stops him.

"What of the other slaves? Should we take them also?" The roughly twenty other slaves are mainly Drow and a few Goblins thrown into the mix. With a scuff, Rugo drops the key on the ground near their feet, and then leads the dwarves in darting down the dark alleyways and back to the headquarters of "The Brethren of Balmalung".
