No you don't suck, you just need more practice! Be a watcher!!

And you know something. I hate it went people say they were self taught artists and think that's better than a taught artist. There really is no difference other than being under someone and watching them do what they do. Michelangelo was a taught artist, Di Vinci was a taught artist.
People who use tutorials to imporve themselves...they're being taught a small portion. And honestly I think it's better to be taught. We don't do that anymore. But I think it might do a lot of good. Yeah sorry for the rant =P

I agree with you TigerHawk. I am a taught artist, I got to art class every weekend and draw (usually crappy) pictures, and yes, I don't have as much talent or determination as those self taught people, but I can DO more. there was a twelve year old I knew via internet who had this amazing style. And she could draw basically anything. I'm not saying that she's the all amazing artist by a LONG shot. Go peek at her gallery and just browse through the thumbnails and bask in anatomical errors. But hell, even her sketches were the cutest, cleanest, and most adorable things one of my "friends" ever drew. But she could NOT CG (oekaki discluded, cuz that's her specialty) and she could NOT use regular medias. There were so many things that she could NOT do that it was almost amazing. (Now, she has greatly improved in those areas since I first met her, because hell, she may see this and have more of a reason to hate my guts) And I could do almost all of those things. And though that probably didn't matter to the seemingless hundres of thousands of people who went to her gallery went, "awww how CUTE +watch" or "OMFG! Yur twelve?!shift1!", it did matter to Suppi-chan who always told me how much she wanted to improve in her backgrounds, and her shading, and her blah blah blah. >_O But no one could teach those things to her, and I think that I directed her to tutorials a few times, but alas. Eventually she got help from her precious oekaki board and improved really well, but she was TAUGHT all of those things.

Anyway, now that I'm done blabbing about a person I shouldn't really care about anymore, I must take the time to yell at Yugo for self doubting himself. If you are always saying that you suck just because those crazy born-with-talent I've-been-working-my-ass-off-since-I-was-five-years-old-people seem to be a millions times better you will NEVER EVER EVER EVER get as good as them. Now, I don't know too much about you, and really, I don't know if you think that constantly, or if you just think about that when you see so much freakishly awesome talent in one place, but just don't. Don't start. I do it too much, and too often, and in those periods of time I advanced very little in my artistic abilities. Feh. >_< Practice whenever you can, look at tutorials, jot down/save tips that people from DT and other places have given you, and maybe copy the techniques or styles of other arists to build up on your own unique look.

Always think positive about your work and put as much time into it as possible for best results. Though if you're lazy like me...yeah. If I spend to much time on a picture I get bored with it and never touch it again unless I'm being paid lol. I'm horrible P: But if you look at artists you admire, you can push your self more to be just like them. or better =D

Okay, as much as I appreciate motivation lectures and how much you guys care about me, it really was said in jest. *sweatdrop*
I do have artists I admire, a couple in particular, and it's not like I'm giving up. It IS hard to be proud of my work and look at theirs at the same time, though.

On the topic of artistic attitude- everyone works well under different conditions. Being positive is a great outlook, and probably saves your hair in the long run. Overly bitter people like me can be horribly negative to themselves (never ever to others, because we actually respect other people). I suppose the grand majority of others would just call us dirty hypocrites. Important thing is, we don't truly mean everything we say.. Actually, nevermind, that's complicated. Because the meaning is there and acknowledged, we just choose to work anyways. It's OK to suck. That is..

As long as you're able to keep working for improvement, it's alright to stink a little. Or a lot. You can even acknowledge it in public. D: But the important part of it is not giving up- when your negative attitude prevents you from doing your work, or even trying- THAT's when there's an issue.

So remember, it's alright to want to burn your most recent sketch, if you also remember that sketch you're torching is the foundation for improvment. It's really better to keep it, but ah well. Sometimes old work belongs to a time you don't want to be recognized by any more.

Soapbox moment of the day!
