Dragon problem

Dragon problem

Postby Whizzard » Tue Aug 25, 2009 3:12 pm

I'm drawing a dragon for the first time. Drawing a flying dragon from looking up viewpoint. The biggest issue I ran into is drawing it's legs. I treid humanoid legs that are commonly used on dragons for some reason but i think that's fucked up. Then I turned to cat legs but heck, I can't seem to be able fit them on a dragon correctly... or i can't draw them correctly.

Anyhow, here's the dragon I'm trying to put legs on:

And here's the failure so far:

Everything I try ends up funky looking.

I hope some artist there can give me advice. :)

PS: Don't talk about wings, those are mockups from the time i had no idea how to actually draw a wing.

they're a bit short... hmmmm... but I kinda see what you're going for. Have you ever taken a look at the hind legs of a rabbit? they might be more of the shape you're going for... make them a bit longer is what I'm thinking.

Maybe, though i think the long feet of a rabbit would look kinda funny when dragon is on ground. And i have planned that the dragon walks on 4 feet on the ground though front legs could be used as hands.

EDIT: So I tried making it bit longer, also added additional section to leg, because i checked bit DT dragons and those were always with 2 large sections and a foot. However those have far bigger feet and legs but those wouldn't work for something that has to fly.

This seems to be the deader part of the whole board.

Anyhow i put on the first set of hands. The whole shading is bit off because there are no actual wings yet but i tried to shade right arm how it should be.
