chapter 54 : page 143

chapter 54 : page 143

Postby Kern » Wed Nov 28, 2018 11:56 pm

The legion's leader died from the demons eating her from the inside, or more likely, received a mercy kill before she was taken over.
I heard the ending of this chapter is making some unhappy. Note, it was always planned this way. A surrender, a forced march back to Chel, Sang perishing leaving the legion leaderless. It was originaly with Kor already knowing about the death and facing Ariel in a prisoner carriage about it. But why save the carriage for Ariel when you can force her walk the whole way. Felt more right to save the carriages for Sang. Now, could Sang's death be SHOWN? Yes, sure. "arrggh i'm being eaten , kill me son, make sure they all die, raargh" Fun bloody time, maybe emotional time for Kor. But that would have been a focus on the antagonist which i don't think people would've liked either. Sang would have needed more character building prior to these events i think.

Probably.

I guess there was no ways to save Sang after all that demonic stuff, sadly.

Well now Kor, you and Ariel have something in common, you are both "motherless". Now will we get a ultimatum where the children decide to wash away the sins of the mothers for the future of clan existing?

The thing about Ariel, is that she is actually one of the best people as a proper leader, she speaks her mind freely, she is direct, but not naive, she is intelligent and strong. She is one who is one that never was a "Val" she was a Val in name only essentially. But above all else she has the best training against manipulation. She dealt with it most of her life in one form or another. She is not Quain Stubborn Tough, but there is no doubt she is very resilient and strong in her beliefs.

Both Sang and Quain were stubborn mules of individuals, they NEVER compromised on their beliefs for ANYONE. This is not quite the best trait to have when it comes to being a leader. You need to balance stubbornness and understanding with on e another.

I agree with Kern's assessment re: Sang needing more character development for deeper death scene. Because even though I am told she is dead, it doesn't bother me as much as Sarv'swati or Quain'tana's deaths (the latter was drawn out over several panels then we were told off-camera, so the shock was less severe than the former, which still kinda bugs me :( )

March home. Try to survive another day, rinse, repeat. Honestly, without Sang's monomaniacal hatred for Vals, especially Sarghress Vals, there's nothing left to hold anyone together besides inertia. How Ariel manages to even be heard, so as to inspire the Clan into doing brave and dumb things will require some plot gymnastics.

Ok. Former page wasn't 100% clear or maybe I was just a little blind. I didn't notice Sang was turning into a demon. And thought Ariel was being escorted with Kel's cart. With another power vacuum, though not as drastic, like after Quain's death everything is up in the air. It'd be interesting if Sang's son realises that with his mother gone and Kel won the right by combat, he and others may kneel to Ariel, or Kel.

Unfortunately, plenty of the Wolfpack cameos for next chapter are labeled "Prisoner" on the docs sheet, so it seems most likely that Kor's not going to do a damn thing except try to continue the now-pointless plan to drag them back for a sham trial.

I'm worried about the Children tbh, we have not seen them in a while... Also NOTHING BETTER HAPPEN TO THEM! OR I WILL PERSONALLY LEAD AN ARMY OF DEMONS WITH A COMMON GOAL OF PROTECTING THEM! Joking joking, but still they better remain unharmed.

We saw more than enough of Sang. This vicious beast wasn't worth wasting another page on.

Glad to know she got the pathetic and excruciating death she deserved. A suitable conclusion.

Now what? A very fitting question, Ariel.

Now what, indeed.

Maybe now we'll see just how bad the Chel situation really is.

I the last time we saw the kids was chapter 54, Page 13 and they appear to be under the care of dear Thera.. They have probably squirreled them and some of the other non-com colonists someplace "safe" while they attacked Felde

Amen. To bad it wasn't worse. Like flaying alive, eyelids too. Being stretched out on an ant hill, and via whatever magic you want to handwave, has no choice but to watch herself get eaten to death. That's be more fitting. But this works too

Sang is not an important, well developed character but she is important for being the mother of a well developed yet sometimes left aside one like Kor'maril, that is actually in a crucial position for what it come to the next chapters as He:

-is the son of the now deceased Sang and is actually in the command of her troops i.e. the Sarg'ress main
military force.
- is also the jailer of Ariel and Kel and their followers including his own son Kau
-through him has a natural connection with Sill'ice and the Val'Sharen/Vel'Vlozzress faction
- is however also the one left to treat with the other members of the Alliance and so with both "empress"
Zala'ess and Snadhya'rune.
- is always been depicted as a conscientious duty-driven individual, uninterested in power and moral questions, so the kind of person that would be the most interesting one to look after in such a situation like the one of Chel.

So, I hope in him having a consistent space in the next two chapters.

P.S Quill' is prisoner also or she and her troops were able to escape? They are troopers after all.
