Chapter 54 : page 74

Chapter 54 : page 74

Postby Kern » Sun Jun 03, 2018 9:01 am

Kel shatters the bridge while the enemies are crossing.
Kel ate his mana flakes this morning. Its his moment to show off, no more performing off screen, today is Kel's day.

While I think Kel's a powerhouse, ever get the feeling he keeps tottering towards the edge of killing himself constantly now?

Kel: "Impenetrable mana shield? That's cute. Hold my beer."

:P

That's what, earth and water foci combo?

Now that, Shodun, is how it's done! These kinds of antics will only impress the ladies more Kel...

BTW, Kel'noz is still bleeding.

Wow, Kel is powerful. The Sarghs are supposed to be a more melee focused clan compared to the magic focus of the others, but I don't remember anyone else doing magic on such a massive scale before.

Quain really should have had him on the battlefield instead of managing a colony during the war, probably could have torn holes right into Sharen fortresses.

Well it was more than his pretty face that landed him the headmaster job at Orthorbbae.

They do have teams of mana specialists that can accomplish much the same, albeit with less mobility, not to mention artillery. So powerful as he is in the grand scheme of things he would probably not decide a battle on his own. Also they they where winning on the field as it was even if it was a slog. Main problem was getting enough supplies in, so having your best man organize the farmers on the surface was a sound enough tactic even if it didn't turn out to matter.

I share the concern he'll overexert himself again at this rate though.

Kel'noz was an Orthorbbae master, and focus mastery was pretty much the highest art allowed for males. He's had decades or even centuries of study and practice. Throw in the Sarghress philosophy of constant challenge and competition, his age, and inherited power, and yes, Kel'noz is a magic powerhouse.

As for why he wasn't fighting in the trenches, well, good administration is a far more valuable commodity than being a combat brute.

If you're gonna die, die like a badass.

Kel's death is nearly a requirement for Ariel to advance as a character and as a leader. Yes, he is a tremendous asset, but he's also a crutch. We can hope that he is merely incapacitated instead of killed (especially for the Waes shippers), but it looks pretty grim.

My biggest problem is that it does not make sense.

After all, Kel is a tremendous asset, so it makes no sense logic-wise that he'd now run himself dry. Storywise I can understand, since YES, he IS Ariel's crutch, but logic in-universe? What logic does he see in killing himself when Ariel needs him the most?

Kel has a fate worse than death. He will be mana deprived and end up retiring to a cottage with Ash'waren.

Don' forget this scene: http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=12189

I think he was wounded fatally before. It hasn't killed him yet, but it is only a matter of time. In that situation, I can see him trying to go out with a bang, or at least add a certain recklessness to his actions because he doesn't have to time to think long term.

In story, who knows?

- Perhaps Kel'noz's wounds are not healing because Mablevi poisoned his daggers with the "good stuff".

- Perhaps only Kel'noz is left on the ship with the ability to actually stop the advancing column.

- Perhaps his world is getting rocked so hard that he's not thinking quite as rationally.
