Chapter 54 : page 4

Chapter 54 : page 4

They came prepared, quickly neutralizing the council and the guards that were listening in outside the room.
The twin mountains walked in, praise Slainne's boobs! Smothered by boobs, if it were a different type of comic there would be extra panels about this but hey.

Sure, they got a bunch of dudes. But they're up against a shapeshifting super soldier, an arch mage strategos, and Slainne the Boobarian. Hardly sporting odds for the Ys nids.

Well, they can't win but they can make Ariel feel really bad about launching a preemptive assault that ended in so much bloodshed. Have to take any victory you can get in situations like that.

"Hundreds of warriors ready to drive you out."... Kae, Zala said the same thing to Snad. She was wrong. You dare say Ariel's actions are "unbelievable?"

Wel... You might be right about that. It is pretty unbelievable that she didn't kill your tainted heiny the moment you said she should hand a weapon of mass destruction to a certified psycho who has already shown more than sufficient intent and ability to use it indiscriminately.

Now Kae, if you think about it rationally, sending those "hundreds of warriors" after Ariel is going to throw away their lives, and that would be all on you. Of course, being a Nid, perhaps you just don't care.

And during a coup, you have to be sure of those "hundred of warriors" personal loyalty, too.
"Okay, boys, the takeover has been relatively bloodless until now, but that can change. Sooooo... Anyone wants to get killed just to keep the local nobility on top? 'cause I have a fully operational warship that would be happy to oblige."

Well, Ariel's team tends to be much, much more kind to enemies than would be expected, given the constraints of the world as built. I am rather sure this is because neither Kite nor Kern would enjoy depicting the casual brutality that would be given in, say, Assyrian combat victories. Also, I am also certain that much of the audience would be turned off by it as well. As such, as hard as Ariel will go is to kick the incapacitated and surrendered Nids out with the clothes on their backs, saying, "Feel lucky, this happed to me twice already!"

Nids don't care, as fanatics never care about the carnage. Also, I've come to the conclusion that drow are champion momentum chasers. If victory is assured, they will fight to the death. If victory is doubtful, they usually retreat, unless backed into a corner. Only the truly committed, and even then not always, fight for a lost cause. That said, with the Council taken, the airship free to drop dozens of battle-hardened, motivated adventurers, lead by Quain'tana's heir, how many guards REALLY want to earn their 20 ada/moon paycheck?

Sure nowhere as many soldier are willing to throw their lives away for Kane as she would like to believe.
Of course it means war; I am pretty sure you weren't completely unaware of Sasi & Sal's mission for Snad & the Alliance. Why do you think the things set in motion would end there with the capture of the ship.

Because Ariel is obviously a naive, callow youth aided by a lowly (albeit sexy) male schoolteacher. Just because they enjoyed some minor success doesn't mean they stand a chance against Her Glorious Divinity, Snadhya'rune. Their inevitable failure will happen any second...

[edit]I included the schoolteacher part because all fanatics, regardless of religion, politics, sports, movie franchises, etc. are incapable of irony when it involves their obsession.[/edit]

What preemptive strike? They hit an ally colony of those who have spent most of the last arc fucking them up the ass. This is a counter strike. And about damn time they started acting like they were at war with those reaming them.

To us, no, but to the Ysians, news of Machike probably hasn't spread. Also, while Nids are all on the same team, they aren't all given full disclosure of Snadhya's evil plans, especially beforehand.

Therefore, it would not be impossible for them to think that the Sarghress slit a couple throats and stole the ship while docked. It would make more sense to a Snadhya fanatic than, "The Nids dropped a mountain on our colony, attacked the survivors, chased us through half the Underworld, but then we kicked their asses and took the ship by force."

After all, Nidraa'chal never lose. *cough*

I am amused how polite Ariel is being about all this.

Just a quick regime change, no innocents hurt, we are all home by Christmas, what could go wrong?

...Though seriously, who exactly is she planning on leaving in charge? I can't think of local characters who would agree to this (or really any Ysians besides Kane), and the Machtikians are few in number as it is, I don't think they can afford to spread themselves thin by leaving behind a garrison.
