Ah yes, good ol' hugging. There's nothing like it to thwart superior firepower.

....and for all of the protagonist's big talk about uniting the colonies and protecting them, reality steps in to remind them that they are not the Sargh army anymore.

Points for them learning what it's like to be on the receiving end of the wolf clans armoured fist though.

Ariel must still have that "kick me for being optimistic" sign on her back from her old academy days. ;)

Little time to do that, the Legion is already there. Had they expected an attack and had time to prepare, perhaps, but you can't really clear-cut with the attack already on. And given how much guerilla tactics worked for the District War, the attackers would move quickly to use the village itself as cover, so you'd have to mow down houses and innocent Ssu that were expecting a wedding party. If it were the Nids that would be the answer, but the Legion could use Ariel and co.'s lack of desire for scorched earth tactics to pretty much nullify that airship as anything more than an escape vessel.
Ah. Yes, Ariel would fit that MO. But Ariel is not on the airship. Kel'noz is on the airship. And Kel'noz would know that the Legion would know how Ariel would think. It's gonna be interesting to see how he uses that to his advantage B)
